I've seen 2 videos before that abuse the effect of this. One was with minecarts and was used to allow you to jump over gaps that were 5-8 spaces wide (this was before sprinting).
The other was with boats and had a weird effect where it shot you back like 50+ blocks. I believe it was featured on Etho's channel way back but I'm not going to search for it.
This is the first use of it I've seen though as a means of travel. Not really that feasible (unless you are in a snow biome), but cool, nonetheless.
Fraps is going to be the best recorder that you can get. It doesn't compress the videos as it's recording, so it uses less processing power.
Either stop being lazy and pay for it or upgrade your computer if you won't. If you won't spend $40 one time to make good quality Youtube videos, then why would I take the time to watch them?
I explored about the distance of an in-game map in my world and I have found no ravines in my world. Instead, I get epically huge caves. 1.9.3 generation is weird, lol.
It totally depends on what I'm building or what I'm building it with. It would either be stone slabs, stone bricks, or sandstone. It really depends on what other materials I use.
And why it's fun to make painfully simple things (IE remote opening door, lever turning a torch on or off.. ect) really, really way too complicated with as many gates and dead ends as possible.. so those who know nothing about redstone don't want to use it.. yeah, I'm mean.
You are, lol. I would go around installing doorbells to people's houses if they wanted one.
I remember telling my server mates about clocks once, lol. Never again! Don't teach people in SMP about clocks! They hide them everywhere and cause the whole server to lag!
Passive mobs will spawn on cobble, wood, stone, dirt, grass, sand, etc; however, they will only spawn on the highest y-value block.
So this means in order to make a passive mob spawner, you need to build it in an ocean biome (outside of sight of land) and you can only have one level that has NO roof.
Yeah, I had a single 1km rail line I had to go and fix. I can only imagine how frustrating yours was. After I got done huffing, though, I decided I liked the new boosters.
I just deleted the world, lol.
I haven't really had a stable world since. Doesn't help that Notch keeps changing the terrain generation, but it's a beta after all.
I specialized in making minecart stations that were "automatic" with minecart boosters. As soon as I was done with 3 stations, Notch patches the game with powered rails...
I know half slabs work. Various tests have proven this over time. You might still have a 3x3 square somewhere. Do you have signs along the walls bordering the canals? A sign counts as a block if a spider is trying to spawn, so the spider would spawn partially on it anyways.
This is the problem with servers. People are so spread out that there usually aren't many mobs in the area around you. There's still an entity limit, and if there are a lot of people, then you won't get many mobs.
Also, did you light up the caves within 150 blocks of you? That would force them to spawn in there.
Or instead of the Signs to Block the water, use Pressure Plates :wink.gif:
Neither of these are correct. The height does not affect it aside from the regular monster size (excluding slimes). Pressure plates will still create dead zones.
You cannot use signs like that. Anywhere where you have a sign in your water channel is a dead zone.
Also, spiders need a 3x3 space to spawn. Just place half slabs to deny that interval on your spawning pads and you don't have to deal with the spider kill mechanism (which doesn't have water currents flowing correctly.

Which is rather unfortunate, considering that YOU can spawn there. :sleep.gif:
We'll just have to wait and see how efficient breeding towers will be when they start getting more popular.
