This idea intrigues me. So we could pretty much screw each other over (poke one single well planned hole in their shelter :biggrin.gif:) if we wanted to? xD
actually in this cause I wouldn't do that, since most likely the lava is about 2 or 3 blocks deep, and if I just pour water, I wouldn't know if there's lava beneath my precious diamond, and if I mine it out and fall into the lava I would be really.. really.. upset =3
well what i do is i mine while the water is flowing. When the block breaks the water rushes into the space cooling the lava. Never failed me before haha :biggrin.gif:

or you could put water near it. It shouldn't matter if you don't like obsidian because its not like you're forced to mine it >.>
