The official site is the only trustworthy place to purchase it from (or Amazon if you lived in the US). Any site that seems to be offering it cheaper are most likely a scam.
I did not request this change, what do I do from here? When reading up about this, the person that DID request it can now change my username AND email? How do I even begin to reverse this?
Literally click the link they included in the email, and fill out the request form there.
The general idea is that is you use the worlds in the beta they "should" work on the live update just fine. The main thing to be concerned about is that within the betas issues can happen that will end up messing with the world. If you really dont want to loose progress on the world, just wait for the full release.
If it does not work after a restart of the computer, try the following.
ADWCleaner is an utility to clean a PC which has potential malware/adware, which is a common cause for the problem you have. Download it here: https://toolslib.net/downloads/finish/1/
Run a Scan, Clean anything it finds, restart the computer and then try the game again, you may need to do a local file reinstall (clearing .minecraft of everything but saves) after.

All world saves for either version would be in .minecraft, the launcher 'contains' no world files, if you don't have the save folder for the world you are trying to get to, then you do not have that world at all.
Its not actually showing any problems from the games end, so try the following.

Don't use the old launcher, there is no need to. Create a launch profile for an older game version in the new launcher. Set it to the last version you used the world in, then try starting it there. Then slowly increase the game version for that launch profile to see if it will open the world. If none of the versions open it, then the world is likely corrupt and you will need to take other steps to get it working.
On your launcher, click "Launch options", and click the instance you are using. Then, click the small green arrow in the "Game directory" line. Leave the folder that opens on screen then play till the issue happens, open the launcher_log.txt file after the error has happened, and copy its content to http://paste.ubuntu.com. Click "Paste!", then share with us the link (the URL) that it takes you to.
I remember when I went to the first Minecon there was a facebook page for it and some other sites with tons of photos from the event. Right the the minecon page on mojangs site has limited photos and few of the actual event floor. Is there a plan for a photo page or anywhere I can see a big collection of the photos from this years event. Any info or links would be much appreciated.

Black an purple usually means the file is missing for some of the blocks. Check the info here https://minecraftirc.net/support-articles/known-incompatible-software/ then clear out the .minecraft folder one more time, remember to back up your saves.

Try loading the worlds in a version close to the game version they were last used with. You can do so from either launcher.

Make sure you have no programs or settings that are overriding your JAVA_OPTIONS, info on that can be found in the notes for Razer Synapse/Cortex here https://minecraftirc.net/support-articles/known-incompatible-software/
If you have none of those settings, try using the 2nd alternative launcher listed here https://minecraft.net/en-us/download/alternative
