Melons and creative mode are two of my favorites. I also like the new cave system since it's now really easy to find lots of items.

I hate cave spiders since they are really stealthy and fast. Once they hit you, you get poisoned for a few seconds which really hurts you.

A 20 player server should have about 1GB of RAM and a 30 player server should have about 1.5GB of RAM. Usually hosts know what they are doing when they talk about the players to RAM ratio.

My current Minecraft web host is NFOServers and they're great. They've had 10+ years of experience hosting game servers.

posted a message on Can you be hacked hosting minecraft?
Nobody would want to spend the time to hack into a Minecraft server on your home network. Most people get hacked by going to some sort of website that has a bad advertisement, some sort of Adobe Flash exploit, or anything like that.

I think they should sell the PC version for maybe a little more at maybe $40-$60 and have it include the Xbox version as well as the version for mobile devices. That way you purchase it once and you get it on all the different devices that you own.

Your ISP could be blocking remote connections to that port. Many ISPs don't want their customers running servers on their network.

I would not recommend doing this at all.

Indeed I have hosted my server at home for two months straight, I could handle about 40 people with 15up and 25 down.

Reasons I don't recommend doing this, your network speed will suffer.
. Your players will suffer when you use your Internet, aka Netflix HD.
    . Potential for outside threats.
    . DDOS

Mainly just don't do it for security reasons, take it from me a ccna student.

I'd suggest keeping your current connection and getting a secondary line in for the server to keep things smooth for the players. As far as bandwidth requirements I'm not exactly sure what would be best. 25Mbps should be plenty, I'm sure 10Mbps would be fine. When it comes to RAM I'd put as much RAM in your system as possible since RAM is cheap.

I would go with BeastNode since they are a bigger more well known host. Personally I use NFOServers for my Minecraft server.

You and flutterwry both make good points. I think I'm either going to get an SSD or save it, and if I do get one it will be a Crucial M4, so yes, I do know good SSD's. Also, my teacher is from the same town as you. Do you happen to know the Lundaks by any chance?

No, I don't, they must be at another school.

You have a point there I guess, plus the RAM is cheaper, but as said 8GB is enough, 16GB is just for comfort when only video editing. I'm not animating or anything like that.

    Something also to note:

My computer used to have just 8GB of RAM and an SSD. When I upgraded to 16GB of RAM I noticed no performance increase. Of course a caching drive won't be quite as fast as an SSD.

The reason why the SSD is nice is because Windows automatically creates a page file which is basically used as backup RAM when your RAM is full and you are opening another program. With an HDD the page file is really slow so extra RAM is important. With a SSD the speed difference between the RAM and the SSD isn't as huge so the page file on the SSD is pretty fast.

posted a message on Buying SSD
64GB is fine but I'd invest in a 128GB SSD, it's worth the extra money. The problem with a 64GB drive is that there is only room for the operating system and some applications. Once you get Microsoft Office and the Adobe suite of software on the system you're about out of space.

The 128GB SSD has twice as much room for applications and files. I also think the Crucial m4 is a great drive. They plug in just like a hard drive. The data transfer kit allows you to copy your files and everything over from your old drive to your new drive, but you're better off just reinstalling Windows.

I'd probably go with the RAM and then maybe purchase an SSD later on since the price of SSDs seems to be decreasing at a nice rate. The RAM will also be a lot faster for most things than the cached hard drive.

Affordability is great but I also really like simple control panels and minimal lag servers. There are a ton of web hosting companies so it might be pretty hard to compete with them, but you can go ahead and try.
