So apparently, I'm playing the new version. I really enjoyed the map throughout; provided for great gameplay, good placement of resources and loot, etc.
First intersection was as should be in most maps; food, coal, wood, stone. Second intersection was maybe a bit challenging, but not a lot to say with only two new areas, but good use of new mechanics for the wide area ghast spawner. I really think it's better than having ghast spawners all over the place. Third intersection upped the difficulty a bit, but then again, the player has iron now so they can be a lot more riskier. The bedrock could have been hidden a bit better, in my opinion... I mean, everyone looks up every waterfall these days to be honest, but it's okay. Abyssal Lake... really reminiscent of "Peaceful Lake" in "Legendary", with the maze and all that, except the lake wasn't that peaceful. Intersection 4 was where things got real. Charred Halls was easy, the creepers blew up the spawners for me xD... but then, that Bonus area was a tough one. I only got to completing the first challenge (with 41 deaths, making up 100% of my death counter), and then just got the arrow and got out of there. I'm sure what was at the end was worth it, but I was too lazy to do two more of those challenges that could be possibly harder and more rage inducing. I suppose I got lucky with the enchants, but I was able to get a fortune 3 iron pick to mine all the diamonds out of the green wool area, giving me 61 plus the 8 I got from retrieving the two Bonus Monument items. I like that you give limited amount of diamonds compared to what you did with the iron and coal.

But then, you did hand out a whole lot of OP stuff in the red wool castle, but by then it wouldn't really matter, would it? :P Red wool and black wool weren't that extensive compared to what I've seen before, but was still great. The silverfish were just annoying, maybe would have been better of a mob to use when the player is not in full diamond, but whatever. The red wool castle, presenting a mix of all the other mobs seen in the map, was good in both design in gameplay. I really like the endgame parts of a CTM map where you're given the diamonds and the mapmaker throws everything he can at you like arcade style. Black wool was also good except that the blazes updated the lava... But it could have been worse. Overall, It was a great experience and I'm excited for your next map! :)

Only got the Bedrock and Arrow for the Bonus Monument, but I'm not about to go throughout the whole map to fish for the other two, so... that's that. :P

Okay. FoD2. Rage rant. Here goes.

So, 14 deaths, and now I have an idea of what I'm supposed to be doing. So I grab the three Sharp10 swords, and then I progress onto the next area, and I see a stone slab. I break it after using up all the Sharp10 swords to kill the creepers around me. I thought it was going to be the wool, but it's the record. I expect to see another room, but then ahead of me, I see a narrow corridor instead of a line of blocks like before. I had reached the altar (without seeing the wool, that is).

I had missed the black wool, and now my bow is almost broken. I go back outside to search for the wool, hoping it's under one of the tiles.I start to look for another block that looks out of place, and then, Sssss.... Boom! Dead.
    #RageQuit

Sigh, I'll give it another go sometime...

Thank you, will try to beat the maps in that order. (Was wondering why 3 was a difficulty spike that made 1 and 2 look so easy)

Well, the thing for me that makes 3 so "unpredictable" (not so much as hard if you just progress through it step by step instead of trying to rush it, which I did) is primarily the skeleton spawns, and then it also depends on where they spawn. They might just spawn in midair and instantly fall into the void, but they can just spawn in the middle of the walkway to the chest when you're trying to get to it. Also, for some of the spawners, the lamps don't even disable them fully, so that's also a pain. For most other maps, the map was somewhat consistent when I was trying them. The ghast spawner in the middle is a big obstacle as well, which can blast your spine off if you don't deal with it swiftly, and this also depends on the skeleton spawns. I really think things like this should be somewhat consistent for the player, but at the same time it is a unique aspect of the map that is actually pretty cool.

Hey, other people should post their thoughts on the order of difficulty of the 24 Advent maps.

    Fog of Demise II:
•Auto-Regenerating Map (No more hardcore mode!)
    •Customizable death counter

Haha, this was exactly what I was doing with the first Fog of Demise :P
Also, do you plan to do this with all of the current "Hardcore" maps for convenience of the player (that would be awesome)? Or is it just with FoD2 since you're under the assumption that the average player will have over 9000 deaths?

Finally got around to beating Emaciation Zone. Overkill was so much easier in my opinion, maybe it was just around mob-killing and not that much about the terrain around? Everyone seems to have beaten all the Advent maps and/or moved on with other discussion, but I'm going to bring this up anyways. #25 will obviously be the hardest (well, at least I'm hoping so since it's supposed to be a full altar), so I've decided to arrange all 24 maps in order of difficulty easiest to hardest. Might have changed from last time I posted this sort of thing, since I've played a bit more.
    8 - 1 - 2 - 17 - 24 - 13 - 18 - 4 - 6 - 15 - 10 - 22 - 9 - 11 - 7 - 3 - 14 - 16 - 5 - 20 - 12 - 19 - 21 - 23

Really exited for #25 and Sync! :D

Haven't made a post on this thread for a long time, eh?

Hmm... regarding those two pictures of one being in the nether and one being in the overworld...
I will place bets that one of them is the starting area and the other one is the end-game area. Anyone agree with me? :S

I was also busy the past couple weeks, and I finally beat Extinction (with certain hardships, of course)... man, that place brings me down to 15 frames (not that I have a good computer or anything like that but still...), even with OptiFine and all like minimal settings. I mean, its still playable, but not as good of gameplay experience.

I will still try to speedrun some of the other ones, but I got a new time on Quagmire Jungle for once (using Canias's route so credits to him), for 2:02 approx, but couldn't get it under a 2 minutes :/

Anyways, looking forward to Syncquential! Do you have a goal to release it within a certain date, or will you just go with when you feel like it? Just asking because I would think many people are looking forward to it like me. Not rushing you or anything like that of course. xD

As far as I remember, even though the signs said troll, they gave prizes like diamond swords. Well worth it.

Late reply here, but since I played the map, I will say this.

As soon as you get enchants, diamond swords dont really do that much (also because you can't enchant it since its already enchanted, unless you have another one) except for the fact that it lasts more than 30 seconds and it only does half a heart more than an uninchanted iron one, and plus, that diamond helmet doesn't really do much compared the iron helm, so I would say that making the area that big was kinda pointless...

But also, I disagree with the previous answer that said the map was overly trolling. I completed the map with only a few deaths at the beginning areas. Apart from that Molten Surprise area, the others were really well designed in aesthetics and also contained great loot.

... 1:30,616 on Goldthread Lattice. :/ Unlike Sandswarm, I can't seem to do this consistantly... Most of my fails were getting shot of one of the legs of the lattice. I wanted to post a better time than this, but I couldn't do it since I was on vacation most of this time and I'm also posting it now as to keep this thread alive :P

Not a really big improvement on my part, but I got a fairly significant new record for Quagmire Jungle; 3:13,735

Happy new year to this thread! :D

So, I have been trying to speedrun these maps for a while now...

It technically isn't really a speedrun, but I have completed VFII in the short time of 2:46:13,355 (2 hours, 46 minutes, and 13 seconds) in MC 1.2.5. I could have done faster, but I would have died with the amount of risks I would have taken. I have come to appreciate the power of gold armor, though. Also, 'Enemy Mine' was a biatch to speedrun... =.=
It's frustrating to swim in lava with fire resist to get to the record when you're trying to speedrun. Just sayin'. However, I do like me the Efficiency X Diamond Pick... :3

EDIT: I really know that this isn't the time for a speedrun post, but I just wanted to get it out there. Also, Happy New Year 2013 really shortly! :D

I was just playing Respectable Regions #2 because I'm slow... and so I was just wondering if there was any more to the upside down house other than the parts that it displays. Is there?

And also, I conquered (and by conquered I mean destroyed all spawners of) three of the dungeons (the void bridge, the creeper hut, and the spider tree). I was wondering if there was any more dungeons cuz I couldn't find any.

In addition, I know that this is just supposed to be survive and build with a long term goal of completing the plant monument type thing, but I can see players wondering around with no clue where to go next after conquering a dungeon. So as the feedback, I would suggest putting a bedrock border around the area and maybe a 100 blocks around where the dungeons are, so that players will find dungeons easier, but also within the bedrock border must be some resources that would be an element of the monument.

    A few screenies for fun:

the monument in its glory :D

My humble base that was previously full of creepers and creeper spawners :S

And for gecko, :) it was a fun map.

EDIT: Also, forgot to mention when I was playing the previous Respectable Regions map, the Cactus can only be placed if there are no adjacent blocks to the cactus. :P

Another EDIT: Since at this time that I am editing this post 2012 has been turned to ashes, I will say to you, Happy New Year! :)

I'm taking a bit of a break from trying the maps I haven't beaten by improving on the maps I've already beaten.

    Goldthread Lattice: 1:47

Fireland Bunker: 1:28 without taking any damage.

I know some people *coughhybrancough* can beat these, but I just wanted to share my times. And bump the thread.

I tried to speedrun #4-6, but it didn't really work out in my favor and plus it wasn't as fun or thrilling to beat these as it was for Sandswarm :P

Goldthread Lattice: 1:35,844 (Comment: I found it easier to operate killing the ghast spawner entirely, but that just kills your speedrun, so I had to deal with the frickin' babies... and there were few success runs.)

Archincaceron: 3:09,032 (Comment: rushing didn't really work, so I tried to get the green one first by rushing it, then get to the red by just jumping in then pillaring. Sounds simple, hard to execute.)

Centric Elements: 4:55,915 (Comment: Umm.... yeah. Horrible time, but this was clearly not meant for speedrunning. =.=)

These times are all beatable, I didn't have good strategies for either of 5 or 6, but I just wanted to get it out there... If you want to challenge my records, I will challenge you back. Just sayin'. :D

Speaking of which, yo Hybran, you gonna try to beat my 0:45,551 on Sandswarm? xD

    Thanks for the tips :)

I would like it if you put a boundary to the maps, so that you could find the dungeons within the boundaries, instead of just making the player meander around hoping to find something :P

Also, I know that the Respectable Regions maps are supposed to be easy, but the loot from the dungeons are wayyyyyyyyy too OP if I don't say so myself. I mean, a stack of iron blocks? What are you even supposed to do with that much iron? O.o

I just started to play Respectable Regions #1, the Jungle of Fun, and in the Pyramid dungeon, you gave me materials to make portals to both the nether and the end. Were there any map material in the other realms except the overworld? I traveled a great distance in the nether and found nothing, and also the end was just a vanilla end, with a dragon, which I got owned by. I'm just curious if there was any point in going to the other realms, since you gave me the materials to go to them. :P

Also, I like that you are adding puzzle elements and using the vanilla terrain to your advantage. I especially liked the exploration part of the map, I think you did a real good job on managing the game balance. Keep up the good work! :D

I have heaps of copies of Sandswarm sitting there in my save list. I usually try whenever I get a few minutes or when I'm completely bored of Monumenta.

Lol. I play a lot of CTM maps when I get home, since normal minecraft is just... just... just.

Just curious: Did you ever speedrun one of the VF maps? :P

Oh BTW, 0:45,551. IDK how I even did that, it felt much longer, but timers don't lie.
