So in the new version of minecraft (1.8) they may be getting rid of OpenGL How will this affect your mod? or will it do nothing to your development at all?

They're not getting rid of OpenGL. They are bumping the version they are using to 2.1 which will kill support for older graphics cards.

    As they say themselves:
In the far future (at least past Minecraft version 1.8, if not later), Minecraft will no longer support OpenGL versions older than 2.1.

    From this link.

Edited to Add: Also note that they say this will be past version 1.8.

Cool, that was the problem. :) As a side question: do you ever plan on having the elevator require some form of power source either by default or optionally? That would be cool for a less "magic block" kinda feel.

hmm I test in 1.7.10 should be fine, try updating if you haven't else I'll need a video of the issue

So I'm having a rather difficult time. I have built a few 3 level elevators, bound everything according to the demo video, and it works the first time. However after it has reached its destination, it never works again. It won't go up, down, anything.

I'm having the same issue and I'm running the newly released update of the mod. Do you suppose it's because I'm running it on MC 1.7.10?

Wow, awesome! You rock, dude. I don't use that mod myself, but I'll be sure to put those textures in the pack. Thanks. :)

No worries. :) If I don't get back to it and do more myself (I'm quite easily distracted) I certainly hope others will continue to contribute. This pack is a wonderful piece of minimalist work and it deserves to grow.

I've done some basic Thaumcraft 4 textures for this which I've dropped here. Only some basic blocks and a couple of models for now.

Thanks for the kind words guys, it's nice to see Survivalism was missed.

I'm currently suffering some frustration at the hands of the GUI code for the HUD. In the old code I could simply hook a new function that did the specific HUD parts for Survivalism into the main part of my mod code (using OnTickInGame if yer interested) but that no longer seems to work anymore. :sad.gif: I'm trying to find other ways to do it as I will only edit the actual main GUI class as a last resort. I'll hopefully sort something out soon.

Woohoo update in progress! I love a lot of parts of the mod, but my favorite parts are the succession singleplayer with random respawn, and thirst. No other mods in minecraft make me feel so 'alive' and immersed in the world as when I play your mod trying to have enough water and energy to survive every day, knowing I only have one life to live. And respawning elseware in the world when I do die with a chance to find my old base is he best part! Your mod really brings survival to survival mode. Please don't forget these two features when you split the mod up in to different pieces!

About energy, I personally think it should stay. Thinking about how it should be adjusted to work alongside hunger is a tough one though, they are very similar.

Don't worry I will be doing a Succession/Rebirth mod. :smile.gif: Honestly I'm surprised to see it mentioned so often, I hardly saw any mention of it during original development.

Hi Voodooforg, I am a big fan of your mod! Well, I have just recently started playing Minecraft and havn't used your mod yet, but I am eagerly waiting for the update.

I play minecraft mainly for its survival element and frankly the vanilla version is too simple. I have two friends whom I plan to play a survival game with over christmas, but I don't really want to start the game without your mod.

Could you please give us a rough estimate when will you release the thirst and energy part?

Also, will you be willing to include in the mod the ability for a food to go bad after certain time? And maybe after that, a "refrigerator" where you can put your food in and water or snow to slow the rotten process.

I have been looking for survivalism mod and yours is the only one. I have been checking your post for update since last month! Look, this is my first post, I created this account to tell you how much I look forward to your update.

I hope you can dedicate more effort into creating a mod that focuses in survivalism, rather than spreading effort into different areas such as magic. Because there are so many mods out there that offers similar things.

I see complete mods such as the NPC villager one being extremely popular. If you could offer a complete package (faster hunger, energy, thirst, sleep, food goes bad, cold hot weather and clothing, maybe nutrition, hygiene), I could see yours become the "must-have" mod for people who are looking into playing Minecraft as a survival game.

With the needs being as they are in vanilla Minecraft I need to be careful what I do in that regard, mostly because I'm trying to avoid overwriting too many base classes. Hopefully the APIs I'm using going forward will provide with hooks to tweak the existing mechanics. As for energy, I may ditch it entirely, I haven't decided.

hey voodoofrog could you outline just what you are thinking - i find it hard to define what it was ...but something about the survivalism mod made me go back to playing minecraft for hours and then i added other mods ...all generally making the environment more 'dynamic' (extended nature) more atmospheric (matmos sound) and harder in a simple way (torches going out after a time) and recently all must fall (making mining a bit harder)... i think you were really on to something and it was nice and simple...

    - respawning say 1500 units from my base was a really good punishment for dying as i felt i could get home but it was going to be tricky and nice little adventure....

ruins mod allso helped as it made me explore and exploring felt dangerous, at the moment minecraft feels wrong to me... i feel very little need to explore- this feels partly because all the worlds generated feel very 'samey' but i guess thats not easy to address...any way sorry to blather on...just interested in what you think you are after/aiming at when you are making these mods

Originally I simply wanted there to be a real sense of danger and to up the difficulty of the base game. Now with needs in the game and hardcore being a game mode with permadeath in vanilla Minecraft that's not strictly necessary anymore.

However there are people, myself included, who enjoyed the hardcore mode of my mod without it simply being one death and that's it. I usually played with about three lives and that's not an option in vanilla Hardcore so I'm bringing that back. Plus I'll be bringing back the soul shrines and orbs so that there are ways (reasonably difficult to obtain) for players to circumnavigate death without removing the threat that it represents. This'll be in the first module.

The next module after this will either be the reintroduction of thirst, or possibly, the reincarnation/succession game mode that you enjoyed.

    thats good news

please include the semi random distance from spawn respawn stuff as that was great

I'll probably add that in it's own module later on such as Reincarnation or Rebirth... something like that. Firstly I want to get the core of what my mod started with back on track (minus what's now officially part of MC).

Would you be willing to create a more structured path of progression from Wood > Stone > Iron > Diamond? Mostly, all we really need is a Campfire! Something to cook food over while still in the wood stage.

That's not really the sort of thing I aim for. Besides, I dunno about you but I generally have a furnace within the first 5 minutes of play.

Well, shock as it may be, I am in fact in the process of refactoring Survivalism for 1.0. What this will mean is that I am going to break the mod down into several smaller mods that can interoperate.

First on my plate is Life & Death which will be like the permadeath & lives of old Survivalism, or, to think of it another way, like new Minecraft's Hardcode mode with extra lives. I also want to tie in the Soul Orbs to this and hopefully they'll damn well behave this time around!

Will this mean more or less time between whenever you start and finish? lol I'd be more interested in a succession mode than straight hardcore, if it's what i think it is. I think your mod added the things minecraft still needs and I don't find it until it's out of date hahaha

Well succession probably won't get added to the base game so it's a likely case for porting to the new versions.
