    since the thread got slightly derailed I'll jump in on the off-topic bandwagon just to say this:

    "I could care less" implies that you care to some degree, while "I couldn't care less" means that you absolutely, positively don't care about the subject in question, ie. your care-o-meter has hit rock bottom and it can't go any lower.
