posted a message on Looking for a good linux screen recorder to record minecraft

My daughter has used SSR on ubuntu to record gameplay with a videocam too. And this is on a 1.6 ghz dual core 4 gb old computer. For some reason that I don't remember for sure (perhaps SSR not updating anymore?) I switched over to Kazam. I don't know what her experience with Kazam is, but you might want to consider that too.

posted a message on Is this computer compatible with Ubuntu?

It should run Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 32 or 64 bit fine. Anything newer (higher number) from Ubuntu, will have issues with older hardware and it will not be as stable as the LTS (Long Term Support) version. 2 GB is the bare minimum for a 64 bit OS, it might be smoother with 32 bit or you could upgrade the RAM. I have my kids running a 1.5 gHz dual core AMD computer with 4 GB of RAM on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and they usually get about 10-20 fps on Minecraft without Optifine.

And regarding why a computer has no OS, oftentimes used computers won't have an OS if someone transferred the license to another computer or if the hard drive failed and the prior owner has no backup discs to reinstall Windows. I've occasionally bought used computers that way locally or off ebay, usually when I buy an older, used computer I'm going to upgrade the hard drive anyway and install Ubuntu since it loads faster than Windows in my experience.

posted a message on [MC 1.12.x] Minecraft Comes Alive v6.0.0 (MILLIONS OF PLAYERS!)

Thank you for the quick reply. When my wife comes home I will reproduce the LAN multiplayer error in 5.6.0.2-1.8 and paste the log here.

posted a message on [MC 1.12.x] Minecraft Comes Alive v6.0.0 (MILLIONS OF PLAYERS!)

I can only get MCA 5.6.0.2-1.8 to work on a LAN multiplayer once. After the first multiplayer log in then exit, the same network error that happened with 5.6.0.1-1.8 occurs, something about netty. However 1.7.10 MCA 5.6.0.2 works fine on LAN multiplayer with my computers.

    Specs for all computers:

    linux Ubuntu 14.04

    Java 8 update 45

    MultiMC version 0.4.7

    MCA 5.6.0.2-1.8

    RadixCore 2.0.3-1.8

    no other mods

I can create a new instance and it will work once each time on LAN multiplayer. Without MCA for 1.8, LAN multiplayer works fine on my computers. I tried to post about this bug on GitHub, but I don't have an account to report the bug there.

posted a message on you need gold membership to download texture packs?
Each time I try to get a texture pack that I had on my xbox 360 onto my xbox one, it says I need gold membership. Is this a glitch? I just have the free xbox live membership, but don't want to pay monthly just to get my old texture packs.

posted a message on A real enemy?
I've wondered how much influence real life had on the making of mobs in Minecraft. I don't see a Satan or evil mastermind behind the real world's problems, just a bunch of bad luck and bad people working on their own, so the idea of a real enemy hasn't even occurred to me. I don't like the idea of a real enemy anyway. I see hostile mobs as those who are against civilization so creepers are like terrorists targeting the player, zombies are criminals of society targeting all, skeletons are like environmental radicals opposing development, and villagers and their iron golems are like natives who can be friendly, hostile, or indifferent. That is just my view though and I don't know how much it mirrors Mojang's thought process.

posted a message on Will existing survival worlds update with TU14 new features?
I don't know how the PS3 update will go tomorrow, but the xbox360 version did not update old worlds with new features for my family's worlds. We all had to start over.

posted a message on TU14 release date
The TU14 release is scheduled for 8 PM on the 27th UK time, as the other thread mentions. I've been playing the xbox360 version today, and on that version old worlds don't have potatoes and carrots, just some new features. So if you want all of the new features on that version you have to start over. I'm disappointed about that because on the PS3 minecraft I've got a big city I built in survival that probably will not have all the TU14 features if it updates like the xbox360 did, so I'll probably have to start over.

posted a message on xbox 360 profile corrupted for minecraft only
My son's xbox live profile is corrupted in minecraft only, as far as I can tell. I played another game in his profile and it worked fine. I tried deleting the profile, rebooting the xbox 360, and then downloading the profile but it didn't change anything. Minecraft works fine for all other profiles I tried, and all controllers work fine for the other profiles. Here are the problems...

    1. inventory does not show up for his profile when signing into worlds on other people's profiles, even though other profiles can sign in without problems
    2. also when signed into someone else's world, the right stick does not work in his profile, even though all other controls work so he can't spin around. This problem does not exist for other players on the same controllers, but it exists for his profile in all controllers.
    3. when trying to open the play game screen to sign into a world in his profile, the screen gets very dark and stays dark. The world can be opened but the screen stays dark so you can barely see what is going on.
The inventory problem described in problem 1 and the controller problem described in problem 2 both exist in his worlds too.

Any ideas on what to do next?

posted a message on What would your last words be?
Many people won't have the presence of mind to remember what their last words are supposed to be because of fear, pain, unconsciousness, whatever. If it is a traumatic event, it will probably be calling out the name of a loved one or some drivel induced by the subconscious.

posted a message on Discussion: Pros and Cons. PC vs. PS3
For me, the issue is price for a large household. My understanding is that for each member of my household who plays minecraft, which is 6, I would need to buy a separate license on PC for each player to go online under their own account. Plus there is the matter of how many computers I would need. So for 6 players, I have an xbox 360 and a PS3 which can handle up to 8 players for a total of $40 US (two games) and I already own the consoles. For the PC, that would be $120 for the licenses plus three or four more computers capable of handling the game since I already have two, maybe three, that can handle the game if it can run in linux. All my PC's are linux anyway.

posted a message on Corrupted Saves
    Quote from Forthefries

i have been playing error free for a bit now. The key is to exit and save. Skip the manual save entirely.

That is a manual save in my mind, lol, as compared to an "autosave" in which the software saves the game. Anyways, I was exiting and saving at first regardless of whether it was split-screen or single screen, but I got a corrupted save that way. I think the issue is saving in split-screen or multiplayer, regardless of whether it is autosave or any kind of manual save. The developer must not have adequately tested the multiplayer save when releasing the game.

Whatever the case, back up your saves with known good saves on a thumb drive or PSN+ if you want to be sure not to lose hours of work.

posted a message on Corrupted Saves

I have not tested if this works when all the players play as different users (no guests). Maybe someone could give it a try? I could also test it some day. Of course it needs several days to test because the saves do not get corrupted every time.

That's what I've been doing for over a week without anymore corrupted saves. We play split-screen with everyone logged in, but when it is time to save the game everyone exits until it is a single screen game, then the game gets saved. So far, it has worked. Now what is really important also I think is to also back up known good saves onto a thumb drive, as I have already said earlier on page 6.
