    posted a message on Ladders!
I just wanted to try and improve the world a tiny bit by pointing out that the default texture (and many that have come after it) has ladder rungs that are spaced entirely too close together. (go ahead and check GIS. I'll wait...)

And that's all I really came here to say.

(Full disclosure - I made a texture pack, and it includes more average-looking ladders.)

    edit: generalization clarification

posted a message on Is there better ore under hills?
Though there is better ore towards the SW. (positive x,z coords when you hit f3)

More iron. Just like iron, except now there's more of it.

    In the code?

Show me the code please? Because I believe what I see, and my map (even the newer sections) keeps an even spread of diamond.

    Here it is: viewtopic.php?f=1020&t=205782&start=60#p3025894

edit: two posts later, guy has pictures of ore distribution before and after tweaking the code to account for negative numbers.

posted a message on Something about trees I never knew
It's not rain or regrowth. It's slight buggyness related to tree generation.

If you farm trees underground, you have probably encountered invisible leaf blocks around the base of a new tree. Placing log pieces forces some updating, (not unlike non-falling sand, etc) and more leaves "appear".

If you log out and back in before placing logs or otherwise touching anything, such buggy there-but-not-there leaf block will be sorted out and you won't observe odd behaviors.

Travel towards the southwest. When X and Z coords are both positive, more minerals/veins/etc are created by the map gen. (due to a rounding error) Hopefully someday it will be fixed one day so that everywhere is more abundant.

posted a message on Lots of Clay? So What?
Just to get it out of the way: Clay is RARE.

That said, you too can have more deposits in your world! Just walk towards the southwest! Due to a rounding error, when chunks are generated in the positive (x,z) direction, they have more tasty minerals to harvest.

Alternatively - go to the wiki, and try file->save as [web archive], and you can make your own copy that doesn't need a pdf reader.

Two things that might help: (besides talking to a doctor)

Try a different window size. (full, smaller, not full, something)

Turn on some lights in the room. (This is actually good for you regardless of what kind of screen you're using)

posted a message on water source splitting
For the curious: (go go super-reduced quality imaging!)

the in-between/corner dumps are dug down a level further than their neighbors and split yet again in the picture. (so that's up to 16 channels) The lower-right side is looks slightly confusing because the terrain goes up a level and there's also a stepping stone on the near stone that isn't mirrored anywhere else. (aw, super reduced quality imaging.)

posted a message on water source splitting
Indeed, pillars. (or at least 1 block to stop/split water that hits them)

Tried it, and it worked like a charm. Originally I was aiming for single-source many-row'd wheat farming, but it seems like a lot of extra space for not much of a reason. (I usually build two rows on either side a covered waterway to keep harvest on dry ground; might as well just drop a few more sources to start new rows, since the water doesn't really need to be shut off at any time)

But it's still fun, so I'm going to work on a 2d (single wall) distribution system, and see if it splits the way I expect it to.

So, would this even split into all 12 holes? (height goes down from diamond to teal to indigo to hole)

Is there some better way to split a source? I'm not talking about things that require careful layered digging; You should be able to drop the source and have it fill every branch unattended. (barring strange chunk interactions)

I would just play with it, but I thought it would be more entertaining to talk theoretically instead of using things like facts and my valuable play time. (read: I'm currently at work)

posted a message on f*nf*n boats how do they work
Since they're made only out of wood, I've started treating them like paper cups. Which means I often break or burn them on purpose, which has the added benefit of being therapeutic.

posted a message on Spawn Change
Since spawn points became movable, and since some maps don't have a valid spawn at 0,0 and thus can yield random nearby spawns, they decided to make all compasses point to 0,0 so that compasses would be consistent. The change was made in one of the last few updates.

edit - so no, I don't think you can change it back without an editor. (or maybe a mod now)
