    This might be a scam.

Of course your probably right. There are dozens of these posts every week on all the popular minecraft websites.

Legitimate teams almost never make posts like this. They contact artists directly in private messages and tweets, etc who they think will benefit their business.

It is mind boggling how many failed building teams and servers there actually are - a dime a dozen I always say

What do you mean by "higher caliber building"? Does this team have any examples somewhere on the net? Any commissions lined up?

whoa, Cranker, you visit this place too?

Did you add towers to that yet? (rolo's gripe, not mine!)

Anyway, I would like to give advice but I suck at building; which is why I upload blogs and post here instead *sigh*

    *schnogot, Pffttt, whatever*

On topic - Location makes or breakes a build, regardless of size or shape. Put mediocre house on a flatworld and nobody will care. Place same house on a mountain side in a clever and natural way and you increase the aesthetic value because the human eye tends to wonder around.

A megabuild does not have to be a single gigasmic building - it can be several smaller structures connected in an attractive way that incorporates into the surrounding landscape.

Personally I'm against most megabuilds because they are too big. If I cant render it in-game, it's too big. They are difficult to impossible to interact with in-game too, especially when used as spawn. Unless they were specifically made for renders/pictures and other kinds of eyecandy.

Larger = more room for detail and smoother curves is true, as the poster said. I think there is such a thing as too much detail also. At some point, a build is going to become cluttered and exaggerated with stuff. Some builds are huge and complex with attractive shapes - but it also looks like a giant steve threw up on it because it's covered with slabs, stairs, ironbars, fence and other small details.

Empty space! The shape of space between blocks can be just as beautiful or more so than the actual physical block arrangements themselves - especially true when using light sources and shadowboxing. People build dragons all the time, but have you ever seen a dragon shape made out of empty space? Only the outline of said dragon exists, the rest is air and light.

posted a message on Chunky - Minecraft mapping and rendering tool
Thank you for making Chunky. I use it to show off

Does the amount of chunks loaded affect rendertime? I know canvas size and emitter strength does.

Lets say I made a castle around a nice mountain landscape. In the past I would only choose the chunks that had the castle, thinking it would render in less time.

If I select all the chunks around the castle (like 1000) does path tracing only render whats shown in the canvas or does it render all the chunks selected from the map? Regardless of whether the chunks are in view or not?

When you pay more than the actual games' price for something in that same game you know you're doing something wrong.

Are you sure you sent him 150$ and not 15$? Either way, it's his spawn ; he could do anything he wants with it.

    Thats what I'm thinking.

I would love to see pictures of this "spawn"
I give my builds away for free, . . . this thread is making me think twice

posted a message on How you deal with kids in your MC Server?
This topic caught my attention for this reason: Awhile back I found an article written by some parents about a server their kid was playing on. Apparently someone was trying to intice children in chat, asking for personal info and leaving detailed and graphic/explicit written books in chests for players.

In the comments section someone posted that server owners are responsible for maintaining a safe environment if children are present. If a parent finds out that their child is being exposed to foul language of a sexual or harmful nature, than the server owner can/will be held accountable for such exposure even if it was someone else's content.

The laws governing internet use varies from country and state, but in North America, a Server is equivilant to Private Property and anything that happens on such "digital property" is the ultimately the responsibility of the owner/administrator who assumes ownership.

Basically server owners have been sued when a case had merit enough and no one is immune.

I don't remember where it was I had read this, I guess a google search with the world pedophile would find something.

Anyway, I don't run a server, but if I did, I would treat it like a business. There would be a mission statement, a set of values and a clear message indicating that the server was intended for people of age 18 or above - with one of those pop-up screens were you click "By entering I acknowledge I am at least eighteens years old and blah, blah, etc. "

Now realistically, how much of a danger can a minecraft server pose to a child? I mean, game chat and behavior tends to be pretty focused on minecraft stuff. But, it would only take one incident, a sympathetic judge and a news headline to change the way SMP is veiwed.

Cover your butts legally. Take chat and gameplay content seriously if children are around. If its for adults only, than hey, whatever.

You paid $150 for a commission?!

Is this what your saying? Your post isn't written very well so it's hard to understand you.

My god I had no idea people charged so much. I should start offering commissioned works.

posted a message on If you had amazing building skills.
    Interesting question

Talented builders tend to binge and burn out after awhile, regularly, than all of the sudden become inspired again for whatever reason.

If you had amazing skills, I would recommend working for commissions.

Being really good doesn't make playing the game any better IMO.

I stoped playing because I got bored and had real life stuff getting in the way.
