ah damn ok thanks for your help mate! Resource packs just take too long for my laptop to load. Takes like 5 mins or so just to switch packs lol so its not going to be very useful for finding things on the fly! Was hoping to find a skelly spawner close enough to a zombie spawner to make a dual grinder but guess I'll just make a dark box instead assuming the mechanics are still the same. I'm sure there are much more interesting things to build now with all the new stuff.
Unfortunately Fasray is showing the same error (attached)
I've been playing since Alpha 1.2.3 but been out the game so long now and as you say there are tons of clickbait "it works trust us" mods which simply don't!
That being said, I have put thousands of hours into grinding over the years and don't want to waste that much time again.. hence the need for X ray lol.
Sorry to dig this up.. just thought it would be better than explaining my situation again before my next question!!
I got OptiFine_1.17.1_HD_U_H1_pre4 to work fine with forge 1.17.1 37.0.82
Managed to squeeze in a few mods (attached screenshot). But I am really struggling to find a x ray mod that works. They either give an error saying "Not a mod file" or "mod file made for older version of forge" even though they're all apparently compatible with 1.17.1.
Is this a conflict with one of the other mods maybe or am I missing something?
I've tried;
Xray Mod 1.17.1
Advanced Xray Mod 1.17.1
Cheating essentials 1.17.1
All of them give an error when loading MC.
I don't want to use a texture pack as it takes too long on my laptop.
95% of modded MC is Forge these days. Forge does provide some necessary standardization between mods, like making ores, saplings and wood from different mods all work together. Forge has also standardized fluids and buckets.
ahh as long as forge is working properly these days I don't mind giving it another try. Back then tho it was always a liability and incompatible with so many great mods.
Will let you know how I go with getting forge and optifine working together and then go from there!
First of all, you'll need to decide what version of MC you want to play.
I would recommend using a third-party app like CurseForge or MultiMC to make Profiles. These make it easy to install Forge and mods.
As for Optifine, it depends on the version you want to play. With newer versions of MC, Optifine requires a specific version of Forge. You'll need to check the Optifine website.
There is another API called Fabric that is becoming more popular. There are several modpacks on CurseForge using Fabric.
Nice thanks. Yes I've noticed talk of Fabric. Most mods used to offer standalone installations too but I don't see too many of them anymore.
I have the 1.17.1 version of mc right now and its corresponding optifine. Does this combination work with forge or fabric?
And are there any standalone mods left at all? Only seen optifine so far..
I haven't played mc in about 5 years. But back when I did forge was rubbish and nothing ever worked properly. Conflicts with mods and so on. One of which was optifine I think?
I am willing to give forge another try but just wondering how I get it to work with optifine and also I really only want to use stuff like reis minimap, light level mod, and maybe an x ray mod for finding stuff like spawners. (Not interested in mp) just want to see all the new stuff but at the same time I don't want to spend thousands of hours branch mining and all that tedius stuff we've all done a million times before lol.
Preferably I'd like to not use forge but I can't see many mods that don't use it anymore.and the above mentioned ones I used back in the day are all dead
So if possible please link me to mods that do the same thing as those above but without the need to use forge. And if forge is really required then please explain how I get it working with optifine!
My old mod list i really want back:
Reis minimap
Light level overlay (it placed a number for the corresponding LL on top of every block and also coloured the number green or red to indicate if it was spawnable)
X ray (can't remember the full name but it was pretty simple you pressed x and it made common blocks disappear. You could also set which block types you want to show/hide in the menu)
Mod manager(was a in game mod manager that let you customise mods on the fly)
*Had one called Journeymap but thats not essential. Not really needed unless I can't get reis back.
I've already got optifine working
I know most of these mods are dead now, but I also remember back then people would pick dead mods up and keep them alive under a different name.
Also had a tool called mcedit which was brilliant. Cant find a version that works tho. Is it dead or just slow to be updated?
