This is vague and I don't see any use of this. I already hate bats because of how small-shaped and how useless they are, and this sounds even more annoying.
that's the point its a new food item nothing more nothing less its jest a new food item like I said in the post's above its not its own stand alone update and think of it this way if they do this maybe some day they will add apple tree's after all before pumpkins could only be found not grown until more functions where added to it.
Microsoft/Mojang is not going to add food items just for the sake of it, whether it gives thing a use.
Maybe It couldn't be allowed on multiplayer servers?
or maybe like I said earlier a half a heart every 5 seconds for ten second and make fire and poison incompatable with each other
I honestly don't see the point. Just stick with what we have, it's better than having to wait 5 seconds for each half heart.

OMG. Note to self: never enclose yourself. I think I'v done that before, but the horrible thing is that Spiders dont die in the dark. But they arent hostile in the day...
Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that spiders continue to pester you in the day if they see you at night. That's according to my noob experiences though.
Okay, this is something that happened to me long back when I was a noob, the type that would just wander around aimlessly until nighttime:
I was swimming in a lake/ocean towards a wooded area, and began to hear spiders and zombies. I also noticed that the sun was setting. And it was a real damn monster-infested island; I could already see an Enderman (I actually had no idea what it was back then, and I thought it looked sorta like a squid but luckily I didn't look at it) and was hearing many monsters. So I used the dirt that I pointlessly collected earlier in the day to build a really tiny 1x1x2 shelter around myself, just so I could fit in. So then 2 spiders marched up to my shelter and started "sucking" it. I could see them because I was in F5 mode. It was pretty damn scary, and then more spiders came, and it soon started raining. For about 3 Minecraft days my shelter was being surrounded, or I guess you could say "sucked", by spiders and many zombies. But I actually was a little excited; it felt like being under a car chase. Eventually the spiders got up on top of my shelter, but luckily they weren't able to to get in or damage me since it was just the hole was just 1x1. There were about 8 spiders at this point. I would hit the spiders when they came up on top of my shelter, however they never seemed to die no matter how many times I did this. Then I occasionally started jumping, and the spiders would wickedly bite me every time I hopped out. I repeated this process until I was down to about half health. Then a creeper walked up to my shelter and went BOOM!! I died, and then deleted the world.
I had no idea why that place had so many spiders; maybe it was because of a dungeon?
in the end what im saying is it gives another function to apples as long as the options is there . unless you think apple pie should have like an enchantment along with it?
Yes, but it is very inefficient. Just because it gives another use doesn't mean it is something good that the players would want to use. Apples are just way too rare for someone to want to use this.

I prefer night vision potions. This could be too OP once you get a bunch of redstone underground or emeralds from trading with villagers.

Would cause lag, and would just be annoying. I have no idea why anyone would want their buildings or their whole world to be tainted by this.

Poison is much too OP for a sword; we already have fire aspect which basically does the same thing.

Yes, but pumpkins can easily be farmed and so can sugar and eggs. Apples, not so much.
