Because this is a discussion thread, people are allowed to critique and discuss other peoples opinions, so long as they follow the forum rules.

I believe Romaq was responding to someone who posted something inappropriate enough that it was deleted. I did not delete Romaq's reply because it seemed to double as a general response to some of the other complaints in this thread.

I don't considering their post anywhere in the realm of a constructive critique of anything when they are telling people to either put up with it or go play something else.

This would be a neat feature for creative, but it doesn't feel right having it in survival.

Out of curiosity, how wouldn't it "feel right" in survival?

"Wanting" and "Having" are two entirely different issues. All *MY* games I loved as a teen have been ruined by time: life moves on, and so have I. Oh yeah, that's right, I can login to Good Old Games. I use emulators. I can play Minecraft using older versions.

    And so can you.

New content is being created using new techniques. Data Packs are a "thing", and they allow for "mods" to the game not possible before unless you were using Forge or set up a Spigot server JUST so you could play a "single player" map of some sort. I look forward to the coming explosion of new maps and new possibilities.

Absolutely nothing stops you from enjoying your old maps in the versions on which they were created. Even WITHOUT command block changes, anything redstone or using some other version-specific quirk in the game would require you use the older version ANYWAY.

So you can keep playing older maps of the game using older versions, as many do, you can look forward to new maps using new techniques, or do both. But getting salty because Time Marches On is just silly.

These are player's opinions, and everyone is allowed to voice their opinions about the update in this thread without someone complaining about it.

Also, calling other people salty ... pot, meet kettle, it's black.

It would be helpful in survival when you're stuck in the ocean and literally cannot see what direction the blocks are facing, and you are basically going in a really big circle.

posted a message on Experiences with "Buffet" World Customization?

Ocean biomes are survivable due to the existence of islands, shipwrecks and trees spawning on some of the islands. Deep ocean biomes are very hostile to attempt surviving in one due to the lack of islands. Deep Frozen Ocean biomes are almost as bad as non-frozen Deep Ocean biomes except the bonus chest can actually spawn on an iceberg, but that might take a few tries to actually get a seed where you're close enough to an iceberg for the chest to spawn. In theory, you could survive without the bonus chest in a Deep Ocean biome if you could gather enough gravel/sand by finding a shallow enough area you could dive down to so you could start excavating a shipwreck if you could find one, but that's a big if considering it only takes one drowned spwawning with a trident killing you when you're looking for a shipwreck to begin with.

In a Deep Ocean Buffet where do you get wood? Cant imagine playing without it. I guess there are mineshafts but damn - that would be hard.....

Your main option is to find a shipwreck you can get wood from. Most provide a decent amount of wood to get started with and chests if you can get enough material to start ripping wood out of the shipwreck safely. It's easier in an ocean only biome world only because there are islands you can dig out if you don't have any trees anywhere close by.

posted a message on Bonus Chest in Ocean Biome spawns

In Deep Ocean Buffet I'm not sure there are any islands to actually spawn on, Ocean Buffet does have islands, and Frozen Deep Ocean Buffet has icebergs you can spawn on, in or under. Would be nice if a bonus chest could spawn above the top layer or in the top layer of the ocean to give the player something to stand on at first in deep ocean spawns in worlds that have no land to spawn on anywhere.

posted a message on Bonus Chest in Ocean Biome spawns

If the spawn point is in an Ocean/Deep Ocean biome and there is no land, does the chest not actually spawn? I've tried a few different seeds in both 1.12.2 and 1.13.1 using the customized map option (1.12) and Buffet > Ocean/Deep Ocean (1.13) and haven't seen a bonus chest when turning the option on during world creation. I've been attempting to run a Deep Ocean Buffet in 1.13, but wanted to use the bonus chest option for a kick start because it's pretty excruciating.

posted a message on The issue with phantoms

As I said earlier, you just need to be under some kind of roof. Build a dirt house, empty out a room in a shipwreck or an ocean ruin, dig a hole in the side of a hill, etc. Any light attenuating blocks over your head will stop Phantom spawns.

And if you just want to remove them from the game you don't need mods. You could use a command block, or probably even a datapack.

I don't believe I was asking for advice, I was giving my opinion which still stands : I find them irritating and unnecessary especially in ocean biome worlds (worlds that generate only oceans.)

Reading posts helps with communication, I believe.

Suggestion : don't give unneeded advice to people not asking for advice.

posted a message on The issue with phantoms

I put them up there with Creepers. Phantoms are way worse in ocean biomes where the likelihood of being able to sleep is almost nil because you probably won't ever be able to make a bed for a really really long time to the point where I just want to remove them from the game. Sadly mods haven't been updated yet for that, from what I can tell.

posted a message on Are there any words you can use that will trigger relevant biomes?

No, the generator does not understand what groups of letters are beyond something to turn into numbers to throw at the RNG. Anything that resembles what you used for the RNG seed is simply a coincidence. For example, ISLAND does generate a world where you start on an island void of any trees in the middle of an ocean, but only due to a coincidence that when the RNG converts that group of letters to -2126057963 Seed and generates that world.

posted a message on Cows randomly dieing in 1.5.1?
    Quote from Power602

So i have this server, and i got some cows in a small 6x7 pen. i noticed that my cows randomly die and all i find are the drops from it. there isnt anything in there that kills them and the shouldnt be able to escape so i dont know why they keep dieing. this sort of thing hasnt happened to me before and i want to know how i can make it so they wont die! i havent seen one suffocate in a wall yet, but i really hope that isnt the reason why. i also noticed that it's the baby cows that die because ill have them breed about 5 and only 2 ever grow up and the rest end up dead somehow. i really want to know what is going on!

How many cows are in the pen and what are you using for walls? Too many animals in a pen can push them into the walls.

posted a message on Need help downgrading from 1.5 to 1.4.7
    Quote from jstudrawa

How exactly do you use a jar to downgrade?

The minecraft.jar file is the executable for Minecraft, so replacing that file with with a different version will change the actual executable file to the version you want, so you can downgrade to whatever version you want as long as you have the associated .jar file. I have .jar files for most of the different Minecraft versions back to Alpha I think.

posted a message on Hidden Lava in the nether? Ugh... T_T
Geez, the "it's a challenge" crowd doesn't seem to get it, slow lava dissipation rate compared to the Overworld has nothing to do with how challenging something is, it's simply an irritation, especially when that one random source block is covering your Nether Portal and it takes three hours to stop up while avoiding Ghasts. I had that happen, it wasn't fun to deal with nor was it a challenge, it was simply an irritation because even after blocking in the source block and the upper half of the flow, it kept flowing and flowing and flowing like nothing had happened. I went through several stacks of netherrack eliminating the lava flow spawned by a single lava source, and as stated before, there was no challenge present, just a source of irritation.
