it depends on the situation for my go to food. if i need healing super fast i always have a golden apple for emergencies since gold doesnt have many uses.
but most importantly i mostly eat bread since its fast cheap and plentiful until i have enough items to craft golden foods.
but in my personal singleplayer world, i always make sure to have stacks of Rabbit Stew, it gives the most hunger and saturation levels in the game (10 hunger, 12 sat)
the only reason to play java is for the mods. if youre not all into modding thats fine. but the only advantage java has over bedrock edition is the mods. mouse tweaks, inventory tweaks and backpacks will immediately make you wonder why you even bother with bedrock. theres plenty other mods out there, personally i couldnt move over to bedrock edition because of mods like quark or more biomes.
ive only recently taken notice that mc 1.12 came out close to 3 years ago and i am to this day still playing this version as my main minecraft. i thought id give the newer versions a shot and while they are great and all. i dont think it was it is worth for me to lose all the great mods that come bundled with 1.12.2.
however this is just me. my friends mostly just play the newest version of the bedrock edition in fact most people i know just play unmodded and so stick with the newest version.
what version do you play on mostly? and why that particular version?
the modding scene in minecraft has had two golden ages. the first during the 1.7.3-1.70 and again during the 1.12.2 updates.
checkout the mod packs available for minecraft and maybe youll find a new interest in one. personally skyblock was my first and favorite back when it was first released. i still enjoy it to this day best part is you dont even need mods for it. this would be a great place to start
my dad and i play this game via lan. open world, open lan button and we are good to go. while is this great because we are both on the same network in the house. it becomes more tricky when i want to play with my friends. in this case i use a self-host server my preference is papermc but you can choose your own.

there exists many resources online to host your own server this is just for papermc. theres also plenty of youtube videos to follow through.
