have you considered on creating a team of coders and other type of developers?

I have, in fact. Primarily because I have literally no coding experience and the only actual concrete contribution I've made to this was my pitiful attempt to at least get it started so that wouldn't nag at me the rest of my life because if we left it up to finding someone with actual experience first who knows how long it would have been before this actually legitimately got started?

Right now I'm taking whoever's willing to help out; just about everybody who's at least expressed an interest in helping is part of the unofficial development team.

I'm terrible, don't listen to me.

Aaaaaand I've already run into an issue.

My computer is refusing to procreate with its charger, it absolutely refuses to hook up, and I've been having issues with it for a long time anyway, so my mom is getting me a new one but I won't be getting it for at least a couple weeks unless she sends it directly to my college campus, and my computer's battery doesn't have enough of a charge to last that long (I don't even think the battery will survive the night). That's really the only serious issue that's going on right now, but I won't be able to do anything for the next couple weeks, sadly. If I can manage to get the code pushed from Eclipse to GitHub properly (I tried but instead of the code all it pushed were the directories and the .png files of the .jar thumbnails, so I need to get that worked out) the code can still be worked on possibly but I won't be able to do much at all without my computer.

So I literally just got the Forge issue sorted out and I already can't work on it.

At least I can hope to get the code pushed to GitHub before the battery dies, but there's as big a possibility of that not happening either.

Sorry guys. I'll get it worked out as soon as I can, but you can't exactly help having computer issues.

    ~transcendentalGrimalkin

EDIT: Got the commit pushed to GitHib so it's available on the page now, so that's all good. Still won't be able to use my computer again until I get a new charger, so that's bad. But hopefully it should be fixed soon.

posted a message on UPDATED PIX: Gryphons (Balanced flight for Survival mode)

I love this idea. A way to fly around at least somewhat on a giant furry/feathery beast would give my life meaning.

I do think that maybe there ought to be varying skins, though. Not all gryphons resemble bald eagles. Some are black, some are white, some are gray, some are golden-brown. And I'm tired of getting all my dogs and cats mixed up even with three different skins (for cats) and dyeable collars (for dogs) and name tags. If I were, on the off chance, able to get more than one I would like some other way to tell them apart. Plus, in servers, the more skin variations there are the easier it would be to know whose gryphon is whose.

It would be kind of neat if gryphons had their own AI that let them go off and do things on their own, maybe fly down to a nearby lake or shoreline and catch a fish or two or preen themselves, maybe fly around and dive-bomb nearby mobs or other players to just startle them a bit, send them running. (This would actually be a really neat way to spot an adult gryphon, rare as they are, and maybe pinpoint a general location of where its nest might be since I don't see why it would stray too far from the nest.) It wouldn't get too far away from the player, but it wouldn't just sit around or stay on its perch all day either, or only move when the player moves. Maybe it could be possible to craft a whistle or something to call it back when you need it if it's out and about doing its thing.

That's the thing about tamable mobs, their AI needs to be expanded. Dogs and cats don't just sit around or move (pretty much) only when you move, they run around and chase things and maybe leave your line of sight for a bit but they (almost) always come back again. Minecraft mobs do...not very much of anything. Kind of makes everything seem a bit...dead. If gryphons were added into vanilla Minecraft, showcasing them would be a good way to bring attention to those changes to the AI.

Maybe it would be possible to add armor to a gryphon, if they might ever be expanded to also participate in combat, but probably only against hostile mobs in the area or mobs or players that attack you. If they were ever to be expanded in such a manner, I could imagine them having high Health and Attack stats. No better way to deter a griefer on a server if he knows you have a gryphon lying in wait.

Plus, gryphons in armor are my life.

    But that's just me.

    Full support.

Alright guys, I have some great news so hold on to your britches and thank Jesus (unless you aren't a Christian or have a religion, in which case thank whomever your deity(ies) might be or just that somebody)!

After months of battling with Gradle I have finally won and the mod can now officially be worked on!

I have yet to set it up in Eclipse and GitHub yet, which I'll do in just a moment, but otherwise Forge has been properly installed and the minute I get it set up in Eclipse and GitHub work can finally, finally begin!

The Forge version has been changed to 1.10.2 as opposed to the original intended 1.9, and the GitHub repository has been set up in a new account, which can be accessed from the first page. The Tumblr page is pretty much the only thing that remains unchanged, but I'm thinking about creating a new blog for that too, keep things fresh instead of covered in year-old dust.

Anyway, I just started college guys, and grades take top priority if I want to keep my scholarship, so I won't be able to work on this as much as I'd hoped. Don't worry, I'll still be here, just not as often. If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns, or if you have any ideas for the mod, just shoot me a PM or contact the email I used for the GitHub ([email protected]) and I will get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, do what you guys can, and if you think we could use more developers by all means, ask them to join our tiny development group! The worst they can say is no!

I love you all, thank you for waiting so patiently on this, and have a lovely lovely day!

EDIT: I'm having issues getting the code pushed to GitHub for some reason (I tried but all it pushed were the directories and the .png images for the .jar files for some reason) but it's not a huge issue and it should eventually be set up on GitHub for you all to contribute. I've attempted getting the main class, helpers, and proxies done but I'm pretty sure I've messed up somewhere (actually, I know I messed up somewhere, I tried loading the mod on Minecraft to see if it worked and it crashed my game). But hey, these are errors to learn from. That's why mistakes are made.

Or maybe everybody just thinks that Microsoft is going to ruin MC just because Notch isn't in charge anymore.

GUYS, THE REASON HE SOLD IT WAS TO SAVE HIS SANITY AND HIS LIFE.

He literally couldn't handle being the owner of such a popular game and went into such a depression that he would have wound up being the new Kurt Cobain if he hadn't sold it. He did it to save himself (and made a killing off it to boot), how dare you all shame him for it.

"Welcome to the Salty Spittoon, how tough are ya?"

"How touch am I? How tough am I? I play Minecraft on Survival Mode!"

    "Yeah, so?"

    "Without cheats enabled."

Anyway, another really dumb death I had was by playing our Xbox after we got it a couple years ago. I was in the middle of a taiga biome and was trying to get used to the controls, so I didn't know how to set it to Creative or Peaceful Mode. Night fell, a zombie spawned, I had no house and no weapons. It attacked me and I flipped out, running around and swinging wildly until I fell into the sea where the ice had crusted over the water. I got trapped under the ice and couldn't find my way out. I died...

You have something against me playing on a Mac? INFINITE RAGE! Hahah,…just kidding. Nah Microsoft won't replace the java version. What do people have against Microsoft anyway?

They probably hate it for the same reasons many people hate capitalism, because Microsoft is a pretty big example of that. There's something about a guy who took his talents and made billions off it by driving his weaker competitors out of business that people don't seem to like. But that's enough about that.

The only reason I play on a Mac is because it was a gift from my parents for my ACT score and because I don't have the money to replace it even though it sucks.

But anyway, if MC Win10 became the main MC, people who play on Pocket Edition on Apple and Android devices and the MCPC on devices that don't have Windows (such as Macs and Linuxes) would be locked out of the loop. Besides, that's a lot of recoding in order.

I was playing on Peaceful Mode (because I'm a weenie) on Pocket Edition after they added the Nether into the game. I had found a Nether Fortress and was digging my way up the leg into it. I wound up digging a sort of staircase into the Nether brick that inched along the very edge of the leg on two sides. While I was going up it after having cleared my inventory of all the Netherrack and Nether brick I'd collected I accidentally launched myself off the leg of the fortress at a rather high point. Died instantly and lost all my diamond tool junk, too.

Another time, also on Pocket Edition, I had turned up the difficulty after night fell so I could hide in my house in a desert village and collect the loot after the zombies and skeletons burned; this was on a much older version from a few years ago. I guess somehow a block from the wall had been removed and a spider got in somehow. I died not once, not twice, but three times from that one spider because I kept respawning in the house.

Well, this idea sounds absolutely fabulous, and I share the sentiments of the others who hope this comes to fruition. I can help you with textures if you need help with that, and if my plans relating to modelling go according to, well, plan, I might be able to make models for you. I've already technically made one, but the UV map for it is so confusing I couldn't even hope to texture it.

Thank you so much for offering to help! Since there is no Mac support for most model creators and the like, and the few there are I can't for the life of me figure out how to use, models are pretty much all I can't do. Unfortunately I still haven't started coding this yet; I've been trying for nearly two months and I'm continually getting a "GC overhead limit exceeded" error trying to set up Gradle (which sets up Forge and the majority of the tools I'll need), but I'm having no luck in finding a solution. Various threads say it's an Eclipse-related issue as opposed to a computer-related issue and give solutions on how to fix it, but I can't seem to replicate those procedures with the version of Eclipse I have. I've already downloaded IntelliJ IDEA and NetBeans (though there are few tutorials on mod creation for NetBeans) to try and see if I can forgo Eclipse and find a way around that error, if it does turn out to be an Eclipse error and there's nothing wrong with my computer after all.

These are among the days when I feel it would be best to reset my Mac to its factory settings and just do everything again to see if that corrects anything, but that's obnoxiously impractical and I honestly don't know how I would do such a thing and be able to return to this point.

Honestly the easiest solution that comes to mind right now until/unless I can get this issue sorted out is to create a bunch of documents for the code (several as opposed to one so that the codes for different parts such as items and Lands don't get mixed up) on Google Docs, share those documents with all those interested in working on the mod (what's cool about this is that unlike GitHub we can all work on it all at once and chat as we do so and leave comments about what needs to be done next or something), and register one person to hook the mod up with Forge and piece it all together so it can be compiled into a .jar file.

Actually, that seems like a pretty good idea, know that I think about it. What do you guys think?

hey, I am an avid homestuck fan, and as you know, homestuck has ended. but if you ever get into terrain building, can I suggest adding custom blocks and make the player spawn in some form of structure. and I know this sounds ambitious, but I Think this would work better online, or you could code some really aware NPC's. If you ever need voice acting. I can scour around the internet to see any willing participants. you should really work on making the alchemiter really module. maybe allowing us to add modpacks would take the toll of your back. also prototyping should be vary module too.

    Thank you for your input!

Honestly initially spawning in structures had never crossed my mind, ironically. But now that you bring it up I'll see what I can do about that.

I'm not sure how well this mod would work online in something like a server. A Sburb game that large and encompassing seems like a bunch of huge issues just waiting to strike. I think we're better off leaving the game offline, for small groups of friends or individuals, at least for now. And I really don't mind having to program the AI for NPCs to make up for it not being some MMO Minecraft server. Speaking of which, I don't think we'll be needing voice actors, since all dialogue is text-based in Homestuck anyway, and I don't feel like changing that. But people to work on sounds would be as greatly appreciated!

I'm not 100% certain what to do about the Alchemiter just yet, but this is why I said I would be coding a little mod on the side, to get used to what I'm doing before leaping into this project. I'm still a beginner with this sort of thing. I will make mistakes, probably a lot of them, and will probably not know what I'm doing about half the time. But that won't stop me from trying my best anyway.

But again, thanks for your input! Just knowing that people know about this and are interested and willing to help means a lot to me!

posted a message on Skaiacraft - a Homestuck Mod for Minecraft; Coders Needed!

I'm quite glad to announce that after having been dabbling with a Java coding tutorial app I found, I am ready to scrap the old (and hardly there) Skaiacraft and begin work on a new one, which will hopefully be better set up and actually run, unlike the old one. I will hopefully be able to get the workspace set up with a new GitHub, which will be replacing the old one on the first page, and get started on getting it set up with Forge and Minecraft because that's important stuff by the end of the week. It may or may not take longer than that as I am finishing up high school and graduation is rapidly approaching and I really don't want to have to go to summer school and wind up losing the little bit of merit scholarship I've got so school takes top priority at the moment but that will all be over in about five to six weeks.

But, for now, that's where development will slow down, as I also wish to begin coding a separate mod on the side to get used to what I'm doing. Jumping into this huge project with little experience and only a handful of helpers (I still love and appreciate you guys for offering to help, just to let you all know that) seems like a load of exterminator calls waiting to happen. But afterward this mod should begin proper development by the time June rolls around, if I can manage it. In the meantime I may be posting polls of various little ideas I've been tossing around to see what you guys might think works for Skaiacraft, such as whether or not players should be able to choose their God Tier title and Land or leave it all randomly generated (or somewhat randomly generated, maybe making it generate based on the nature of the biome you initially spawn in in the Overworld, if that seems like a neat idea to any of you and if I can make it work) or Land names (loads of ideas, bros) or ideas for different non-canon Consorts or Denizens.

Hal's back, Skaiacraft's back, and we are in business once again!

    Quote from JJ48car»

I can see where you're coming from in regards to the Aether being different from the End. I agree that thematically, the two are distinct. However, please understand that when many refer to their similarities, they're talking mechanically (e.g. floating islands, no ground to fall to...)

True, the mechanics are pretty much the same, but has that ever stopped anyone from adding anything to any game before, or creating a new game? Aren't all first-person shooter games like HALO and Call of Duty all technically mechanically the same? Aren't all monster-capture games like Pokemon or Digimon all technically mechanically the same? Using mechanics alone to try and build an argument over why something is or is not in Minecraft is almost pointless, given how many games we have available on the market that are all mechanically similar to at least one other.

This is like refusing to provide support for suggestions for new forests because "we already have forests" and "they're all mechanically the same." Well duh, they're all mechanically the same! They're forests! There's not much to mechanize! Even if someone suggested, say, a shadowy, dark forest that provided a new wood type and maybe a new mob or two, the mechanics of said forest are still the same: you collect wood, dirt, stone, ores, water, get meat, slay zombies and skeletons, try not to die. There's not much to it. In fact, that's the basic mechanic of any Minecraft biome, regardless of whether it's a forest or an ocean or the Nether.

    Partial support.

I'm not trying to be biased here, but I love sky dimensions. The feeling of being so up high, free from the weight of the world and gravity while still being close to the earth, being up there in the serenity of the clouds and the birds and being able to meet the sun and moon and stars face to face...

    It greatly appeals to me.

I can understand why people aren't supporting this, though: we have the Aether mod, and numerous other mods with similar concepts besides, and so many suggestions of pretty much the same thing. But no two sky dimensions are truly the same, if you look at all these threads and pick them apart for their little details. I personally think we should take all the differences of these different ideas and compile them all into one enormous idea as long as it's not ridiculously overpowered or over-the-top. But that's just me, with my love of sky dimensions.

I don't like how people claim that we already have a sky dimension in vanilla Minecraft. The End is not a sky dimension. In reality, it's more of a void, or separate pocket in existence, not the sky. The End is beyond the sky, beyond the Overworld. The End is not part of the Nether or the Overworld or the sky. It is part of something else, something greater than the Overworld and the sky, a secretive something I would love to explore in greater detail one day. The End is also not a dimension meant to represent Heaven, nor are any other sky dimension mods or suggestions -- though the Aether comes pretty close to resembling something similar to Valhalla, the Norse Heaven. The Nether is only called Hell for its difficulty level and Tartarus-like atmosphere, not that it is an actual Hell.

About this mod in particular, I have very little wrong with most of these ideas, though some of them do seem lacking in detail, and a couple do seem overpowered. I don't particularly like how you referred to the end-game rewards as "god-like." It seems ridiculously overpowered to me for a vanilla addition. Perhaps as a single-player mod, or a mod in which everyone could have as great a chance of attaining that same power on their own (similar to Homestuck, in which being a God Tier is not overpowered in that everyone playing has just as great a chance as ascending, and are not completely immortal even once they ascend). Try fleshing out these ideas a bit more, and you may just gain my full support.

posted a message on The Dragon Thread: Let's Get the Red Dragon Into Minecraft!

    Hm.

Let me think about this for a moment.

As much as I love the idea of being able to ride dragons and burn all the villages down like a mighty god of fire and death, it seems more like something a person might put in a mod, if this were to be added to the game. As many people have suggested, for those that still support dragon-riding, perhaps adding a mechanic that makes you give up something of great value or great quantity to be able to do it. Whether it's gold, fire charges, or meat, I don't particularly care, so long as it helps balance things out.

I do like the idea of the dragons flying out and destroying villages near their lairs or pillaging them of their riches. Perhaps there could be a mini-quest that plays along with this, with the villagers pleading with you for assistance and sending you to do something about it. And perhaps an option for you to offer up any riches to the beast to temporarily appease it, because any dragon that's worth his salt knows better than to instantly vaporize potential treasure, especially if he thinks you could be of use to him in gathering more.

But with all this in mind, I don't really see how this could fit in vanilla Minecraft.

No support as a vanilla addition, but full support as a mod.
