Ehh, it is too powerful, as Ouatcheur said. If you were to cut it down to one Glowstone Block and one stick for one torch, make it repel mobs from further away than normal, and make it placeable underwater and physics-less, then that's far more tolerable. Or, even better, make it require a Blaze Rod instead of the stick as well and leave the mob-burning feature in.

posted a message on Saddles should be craftable
    Quote from Zaibach

..... I'll try to remember that when I inevitably spawn in a world and find a saddle randomly in a chest and stumble acrost a horse within the first 5-15min of play.

If they wanted "late game" they would have tied it to someting quantifiable like XP or unlockable tech trees. Not something random like RNG dungeon chests or finding a Villager that just happened to want to trade a saddle.

Yep, agreed. IMO saddles should be craftable, but in some way that doesn't exist yet, for instance using some Infuser or something that uses XP along with a 5x5 crafting grid or some crap like that.

...Or they could just make saddles craftable again and tell everyone to shut up about it.

    Quote from MyNameIsNico

What about having the armor being the dungeon loot so you can craft your saddle and stuff but if you want an OP horse you need to get looking on dungeons and stuff

At least for diamond. I see no reason why one should not be able to slap together some iron horse barding if they can make a full suit of bodyarmor from Iron or Gold; Diamond I could imagine to be a bit harder to work with. Iron and Gold horse armors should be nerfed as a result, though.

First people say horses are too OP, so Mojang makes armor and saddle rare so that horses can't be easily obtained and now people say the nerf is pointless. Just can't win.

It's not the concept of nerfing that's bad, the nerf is simply in the wrong direction. We didn't want to make accessibility technically finite, we just wanted to make horses less cheap. Perhaps having to feed a horse lest it run away from you forever would be better than nerfing SADDLES. They should be craftable, though the merge was a good idea.

Nice catch. I missed the Nether mobs.

Wrong. They come from a world somewhat like Hell... that's been done in games before and is my no means an original idea.

Well, needing to feed horses this way would certainly fix the balance issues everyone is grumbling about.

    Quote from Pikimon_2

Carpets are pushable by pistons, so in theory they can be used to make entire hallways that move

Hm, it would be pretty cool if you have a whole hallway hooked up on two-piston extenders and linked to a room on one side and two completely different hallways on the other. Lots and lots of adventure map potential...

posted a message on Hanging an animal from a leash.
Yesterday while playing with the snapshot, I leashed a cow, then broke the block under it, allowing it to drop into a pit until it was hanging a bit above its floor. Then when I broke the leash, it dropped about one block (or less) down, landed, and died. So... then... falling and hanging on the bottom of your leash is not counted by the game as stopping your fall, similar to falling thought cobwebs. Interesting. It's kinda like you're really hanging a carcass, which drops, falls, and poofs. :P

posted a message on Horses add a new dimension to pvp
    Quote from unsocialman

To balance the power between foot soldiers and mounted combatants, do you think spears should be added to give a footsoldier a fair chance at killing a mounted one? Spears could have a longer range and have a slight damage bonus against horses

Heck yeah. Hopefully Mojang will actually add spears now, since there's a big reason to do so. Spears should be stronger against horses and have a slight damage boost against armor but have a lower attack rate, and maybe even slow you down while carrying one.

posted a message on Minecraft is unique. Let's try to keep it that way eh Jeb?
    Quote from Cubia

    This.

And really, while I love Mojang.... they make some really damn odd design decisions sometimes, and quite frequently, they'll START on a concept.... but never quite finish it, never quite take it where it COULD (often rather easily) go. Look at the Witch. It's a very creative mob; it can smack you with various nasty potions, and can even heal itself! And yet is balanced enough, since just like with every other mob, it has weaknesses (bow/arrow). It's a pretty good mob.

....but it may as well not exist. I play this game pretty darn frequently, and I have yet to see even a single Witch. Not even one. Oh, I've found their HUTS, but they never spawn there (bug, dunno if it's fixed or not). And even if they did.... all it does is make a potentially dangerous and interesting mob into one that's super-predictable (because they ONLY spawn in their huts). They're a mob that needs the chance to get the drop on you in order to be a real threat most of the time. But they never show, regardless. Or how about my all-time favorite example, the damn Beacon? Of all of the items ever added to the game, it's easily the most useless, considering it's absolutely monstrous cost, and the best example of a concept that got STARTED.... but was never finished, and no attempt to even balance the horrid thing was made. Even back when it was just Notch working on the game alone, this sort of thing was still pretty frequent. Anyone remember when gold had absolutely no use whatsoever? Remember how bloody long it took for it to finally have a purpose? Yeah. Those sorts of really wonky design issues are a big part of why I'm definitely not excited for this particular mob. It COULD be interesting and neat.... and I'd sure like it to be.... but I'm not getting my hopes up. Mostly, I'm just hoping that their other mob ideas are more interesting to begin with.

....not to mention that the horse just seems a strange choice. Not just because of the pigs, but because there's so many other obvious ideas that just make more sense. Like more water mobs.... there's only ONE, the squid, and it's completely passive and not very useful. And it's literally the only mob that exists in Minecraft's often-vast oceans or lakes or whatever. They could add sharks or a giant octopus or maybe some new Nether mobs that dont ONLY spawn in forts, or.... there's alot of ideas that are not redundant. Instead.... horse. Oh well. I look forward to the update nonetheless, one way or another it's bound to have at least some cool stuff in it just like most every update, even if it contains a few bizarre "meh" or "why does this exist" ones as well.

Thank you, my good sir. This is the best post I've seen in a long time. I would give you a ^, but I wasted my whole daily quota on people that really didn't deserve them.
