Anyway I can run this as a service and then launch the GUI if I need to administrate or change settings?

    Thanks!

Alright I have it starting as a service, however is there a parameter I can add so that VA automatically starts the server rather then waiting for me to push the start button? I'll fiddle with it a bit and try some of the obvious stuff, but if there isn't an option for it yet that would be a great (and hopefully easy) addition!

    Hey man,

On your last thread, you added "LINUX!" in all cap letters... I can't seem to get it to load via Wine and was wondering if there was something obvious I'm missing.

    Thanks!

    Anyone? :sad.gif:

not a large one just small - medium. We have the best internet with our provider. I have a TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H635G drive, 1tb space plus a 320gb external drive. Mobs are off.

bro........... none of that **** has ANYTHING to do with your computers speed. (EDIT: for hosting minecraft)

I'm curious as to what the "best internet" is....

    EDIT to add content:

I'm running Minecraft on what is the equivelant of a Netbook with more RAM (i built it originally to just be a media PC):

    Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz
    4GB RAM (This is important)
Comcast 22/5mbps (down/up... this is also important)

Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) else is going to have almost zero effect on performance of the server... The HDD doesn't get a whole lot of read/write activity (at least on my setup), the GPU is not used for anything, and I've had 6 or 7 people in there for hours on end. The world we run is pushing 20MBs, not sure what yours is at.

If you're hosting MC on the computer you're trying to play it on, that is the problem. I don't have any trouble running but if i try to run a server on my gaming PC, it just stutters a lot. I would check with the other people who connect to see if they experience lag. If they do, then you probably should be looking at how CPU, RAM, and internet connection stack up instead of looking at your DVD player and external HDD (please tell me that Minecraft server isn't running off the External drive. Please.) Minecraft really doesn't need a fast HDD (certainly does not need a SSD) when the entire world is like 20-50 megabytes.

It seems like almost every server owner takes 1-2 days to update the server, and 3 to approve whitelists. It's so annoying.

wow. host your own server if you feel so entitled...

Would it be possible for some one "code-savvy" to write a mod which does nothing more then disable creeper spawns and/or block destruction?

As complex as some of hte mods are, I can't imagine that modding the creepers would be tough. I really like VisualAdmin and don't feel like I need or want to install 2 large addons that do all sorts of things when creepers are the only thing that bug me.

We have set up the \/\/\/\/\/\/\ cacti wall though, works fantastic :wink.gif:

Good to know. I just deleted my friend's player file from the server. I had him screenshot his items and i just respawned them for him. It fixed the problem but just removing the armor and reconnecting is way easier.

posted a message on Problem: Minecraft.net goes down, nobody can log in
I have a bit of a problem with the way servers work currently.

If I'm hosting my own server, I should NOT need to ping minecraft.net to connect. I understand the reasoning for this (anti-piracy, stats, etc.) but it is clearly causing problems.

Brainstorm time: What could be done to circumvent this issue?

    1. Move the authentication to the server being connected to. (You could have the server retreive a auth key from minecraft.net every so often that it uses to validate clients).

    2. Set up back-up authentication servers so that if one goes down, there are others that can be checked with.

    3. Remove the requirement of pinging minecraft.net all together (I don't personally think this option is a good one, just listing it as an option).

I know I'm going to come off as whining, but I've been thwarted from playing SMP at least 4-5 times in the last few days because of outages. I really don't think a change in the process is an unreasonable request.

if you're confident you have done your port forwarding on your computer AND router (if applicable) and it isn't working, then try deleting the forwarding rules off, restart your computer and router, and re-enter them in. Once re-entered, reboot all devices again.

Some routers despite not telling you need to be restarted for new forwarding rules to take effect. You also probably should update your router firmware.

I like em in single player. Honestly, I feel like they keep you on your toes.

The problem I have right now in SMP is that I can't kill them from afar with bows - arrows literally bounce off them and other mobs which is fine as I'm sure it is being worked on.

Can we possibly get a way to disable creepers from spawning, or blowing up, or damaging blocks without installing a huge combo mod? Thats the only thing I want to change currently. I want it to be as vanilla as possible, but the only way to deal with creepers right now is to have them chase you to a safe place before you try and deal with them which 50% of the time is them blowing up in your face lol.

How are you guys dealing with them? What mods other then world protect might I look at ?

    Thanks all!

Also, is there any possible way you could implement max backups? When it hits cap it starts deleting the oldest backup.

    This would be awesome.

seconded... I personally only need at most 7 days worth of backups.
