No, The screen is all F'd up. If you couldn't tell, no normal human could use the app the way it looks now. I can't even change values for brush settings and if I try and change the tool then the docks on the left hand side disappear.

You shouldn't have any rendering issues with WP using your card. I'm on the 290X and I can render 10K worlds and process them without much issue aside from the time it takes. The most likely scenario is that the install is somehow faulty. Uninstall, reboot and reinstall. Use a side app like CCleaner or RevoUninstaller to clear your system of the last install completely if it doesn't work the first time at reinstall.

As for the issues with the brushes and tool sets, WP can be a bit finicky sometimes with snapping and takes some trial and error to understand it. All the tool bars can be re-enabled if you loose them by resetting to the default work space. Once you do get everything how you like it, be sure to save your work space for fast loading in the future.

If for some reason the display issues continue and only persist while using WP then something else has occurred beyond simple measures. If glitches are occurring in other apps and games chances are the GFX card is damaged, which should be fine since XFX does lifetime warranties.

Is there a way to copy an existing layer? I get how to export and import, but even with a different name, the system won't let me load in the same layer twice.

I'm making multiple cave systems that all follow a similar structure but at different Y levels and making repetitive layers gets tedious. I'm sure there's some way to get this right, but I can't seem to work it out.

I'm not sure if you already meant this by "with objects", but I've worked out a way you can have the tunnel floor span voids. You need a custom object containing just one floor block (e.g. wooden planks).

I've tested it and this works. You need to use both a custom object layer as a floor layer and the floor material setting of the tunnel layer itself, because there is a currently a bug in WP which prevents custom objects from being placed on the solid floor of tunnels.

Thanks for this. It took a couple tries before I got the look right, but this method works great and I'm sure I'll be able to use it for other things too now.

Finally, one more challenge I can put behind me.

I found out the issue, apparently the layer's appearance was hidden because the cave system I was using wasn't interacting with the Y level of the landscape. Like when you use a lower % on a brush. It faded because it wasn't going to affect the area I assume. Didn't realize it worked that way.

On a side note, running WP with MC running shaders seems to be more than my own machine can handle sometimes and WP crashes when ALT+TAB(ing) between. It only seems present with the use of shaders and full screen. Not a problem on WP's end, but it does get particular when RAM gets tight.

Bonus, render of the current map I'm making: Warning 20MB image!

    EDIT:

As much as I hate being that guy, I ran into another issue with generation. It seems leaves placed as blocks will decay as soon as they get a block update. Which sucks when you're trying to make a cavern with leaves covering the ceiling and breaking one piece causes a cascade that decays all the leaves.

Lol, I feel dumb. Never bothered looking at the possible data values for leaves. Well, that's one problem solved.

@determinedstay : You have to use the tree tools for them to appear. Straight biome based generation is minimal. They're right there in the default layers menu, deciduous, pine, jungle, etc.

@Captain_Chaos : Ran into a new issue where some segments in the grid don't render layers visibly. I've included the screenshot below to demonstrate. As you can see, the new "Tunnels" layer doesn't render where the cursor is despite its presence in the info window being confirmed.

Saving and reloading didn't correct the issue and parts of my new layer just aren't visible.

How important is this to you? I could add an option to the layer settings to always place the floor, wall and ceiling blocks regardless of what is there.

Its not vital, but if you can work in an option in a future release that'd be cool. In the mean time I'll get by with objects and manual clean up later.

I've been trying to build custom mineshafts and I've run into a hiccup getting the shafts to cross cavern hollows.

As it is the custom cave/tunnel layer tool can cut into other caves, but I can't seem to add block into a cave's existing air void.

Is there a way to force the layer to render a floor block over open air blocks? Or another method to accomplish this?

Does this method still work? I've been trying to replicate it, but have been unsuccessful so far. Attempted multiple huts and even tried to copy a monument using the same methods, but mobs don't seem to spawn.

(sigh) no....i want to know how to create a physical map you can view in game of your world painter map. as far as my experience is concerned you need to not worry about that. the map is actually finished. it only took an afternoon. this program is fairly simple so if you can help... awesome! :) if not, don't trouble your self.

You can create an image of your map in the same menu under File > Export > Export as image file...

Making a custom world and clearly using the default generate structures isn't an option.

Has anyone discovered a way to implant functional structures (i.e. witch huts that make witches, ocean monuments that generates guardians)?

I tried using MCedit to import existing structures from one map into my last custom world and that wasn't successful sadly.

    • A new Info panel has been added, which displays more details about the block beneath the cursor than are already displayed on the status bar. Among other things, it shows a list of all the layers present on that block, and their intensities. It also shows the high resolution (16-bit) block height. It is behind the existing Brush Settings panel in the lower right corner of the window by default

    Hot diggity do. :P

    My suggestion was implemented.

Heya CC, had an idea about underground cave generation and wanted to know if it was feasible for addition.

Is there anyway to add slope variants to the wall generation to allow for 45 degree straight slopes or convex slopes instead of the current concave option?

It would be handy to have a few more options, even if it locked the whole layer into that style.

Also, any word on the "?" tool idea to check what layers are applied to a specific block?

    Features:

    • We use a discord server - feel free to contact me for an invite
    • This map is CUSTOM built in worldpainter over the period of around 6 months. This is not a vanilla map, this has been handmade block by block. All structures, dungeons, villages, biomes, trees and landscapes are not typical of traditional minecraft. It would be more appropriate to compare it to earth like terrain, we have canyons, volcanoes, and mountain ranges.

    • Coming soon: As the mapmaker builds more maps we will be linking these up to the main world as additional content, these maps are much smaller and built around a single theme, one map will be a collection of sky islands, one is a nether world, et cetera et cetera, these will be added in in due time for you to explore and build in!
    • We have started monthly building competitions - in an urge to fill some of the empty space on the map, and encourage creativity - we now have a competition running monthly to build something to fit a specification. Winners will be voted from among ourselves and will receive prizes accordingly!
