Yeah I think. That was what made me make my floating river.
I don't think he ever made a massive floor trap like this one though. And most floor traps I see on youtube uses torches on sand supporting torches on sand, not signs. That requires MUCH more sand, and allows players a safe place to stand.
Never saw a trap use the "lava over pressure plates" trick before either.
Do you have a link to the episode where he did this? I am still catching up on his vids (Only made it to 21 so far).
As some of you are probably aware, it is possible to place signs up on other signs... to the point where you can create floating rivers (As shown below).
But the really interesting part is how fast signs pop off when the original one is destroyed... MUCH faster than the chain reaction of torches on sand on torches on sand.
So here is the basic concept:
As you can see, a single torch is used (Since water will pop it off), with sand or gravel above. From there we can go up as high as we want, and as wide as we want... with only ONE layer of sand at the very top!
To keep the mess from falling on the glass setup, I rotated it 90 degrees... but it could go sideways for miles, through tunnels, and still impact the users.
Of course, how would we help the users enjoy their stay in our sand trap?
Behold my before and after!
Before:
After:
:happy.gif: As you see, lava floats over pressure plates (wooden or stone), but when sand falls through the lava and hits the plate it turns into collectible cubes rather than stacking up and giving a safe place to land!
Surround the pit with furnaces so it is impossible to place blocks like water, and your friends will be able to enjoy swimming in lava for a long (short) time!

For anyone else who was having this issue (And likely on Ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10), I found that when you select all items from Archive Manager and drag into a SECOND copy of Archive Manager, it was not copying files correctly.
Extract everything from the mod first, then drag it into the archive manager. Fixed my issues with the files not correctly coping (And not TELLING you they failed).
Ever feel nostalgia? Miss the good ole days of jumping and boppin your way to happiness?

Here you can see the saplings, and red / yellow flowers...
Red and Brown mushrooms! We should have some soup.
This is the first base I created on my server. You can see my cloud farm on the left (Cloud seeds grow into cloud wheat. Makes wonderful Cloud candy to eat). The pokey's are standing watch, but don't stand too close!
A close up of the differences between sand and sand stone. The gold coins attract those fire monsters and give light (torch-like). You can see my cloud harvest in the background!
Three blocks (Iron, Gold, and Lapis Lazuli... I don't have diamond, sorry). You can see that I made the door windows larger (both as an item and when placed), and my wonderful chests.
To the left are my furnaces, the hammer is hung on my work bench, and you can see my ladder-vine growing quite nicely. (You can also see my automatic Pokey farm floating up to the left). Some chickens are caught in my pokey/monster/animal loot shoot... but thanks to the fence, they won't get in. Drop eggs too.
Home sweet home! This is our bedroom.
Coral farms are growing well. (Icons match coral as well).
You should probably try fishing (Wink wink, nudge nudge).
Fire-flowers let you throw fireballs, of course. That fire sprite you see on my tool bar lets you start fires.
Oops, I caught that on fire... Darn fire sprite.
Silly Sheep! Get out of my pipes! (Minecart and track, of course).
On to the underworld... So spooky! Soul-sand looks sad...
Oh look, there are some mushrooms under the glowstone! I am glad I built this glass walkway.
Back in the real world, in one of my caves. Wanderroot made some wood stairs for the main walkway!
Spilled some water here earlier, hence the obsidian. Oh look, a fire sprite! And one block of gravel.
Found coal!
Redstone is pretty... (I have changed pick's to hammers and axes into BIG axes since I took this picture).
Ooo, Diamond AND Iron!?!?! How lucky can I get!
Here you can see the bob-ombs that drop from creepers, and a fireball dropped by a skeleton.
Easy to know when to harvest! When the crop starts screaming, pull er up!

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core Processor (3.0GHz)
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT Video Card
4GB of DDR2 800 Ram
Ubuntu 10.04 64 Bit
:happy.gif: I also built my GF's computer (For $260 including shipping) that SHE is playing on:
AMD Sempron 140 Single Core Processor (2.7GHz)
Onboard Video (NVIDIA GeForce 6150)
2GB of DDR2 800 Ram
Ubuntu 10.04 32 Bit
O.o Never found a program or game my Quad couldn't handle. Lord help us all if "Minecraft 2: The Recognition" will require Dual Processor 8 Core CPU's, 64GB of Ram, 8 SLI-ed Video cards, etc.
Found two monster spawners, created two traps for them. One is zombie (woot feathers! I can make arrows!) and the other is skeletons (Woot Skeletons, I have... oh. Crud). Both traps were simple, glass on two sides so I can watch (I am dirty like that), dug one layer below the spawner, placed water sources against one wall, marked 8 spaces away (where they stop naturally), dug a single channel there that drops em into a pit to kill them with water in the pit.
Had to be close to the box to encourage them to spawn. And the spawner doesn't seem to care much if I use recessed light (make a hole 3 layers deep, place torch).
I am rebuilding my whole monster trap. It is now 6 times as large, has multiple currents, is two levels. Had to modify my house, the trap, my other traps, etc to make room. Floor is alternating dirt and smooth stone (To encourage spawns), some even have grass. Pattern tends to be a row of floor 2 wide followed by a waterslide 2 wide, repeating.

Apparently, spiders WILL spawn (and so far, ONLY spiders) when you have sign posts with water flowing above!
I will have to do more testing to see if this works when scaled up a lot.
0
From what I was told, skeletons/zombies/creepers will spawn in any area that is two units tall, but spiders need 3x3x1 units.
So I built some test cases.
First, I verified that monsters can spawn on land that contains signs:
Only a couple did, but I did get a spider and a skeleton.
Next, I created a series of 1 unit tall tunnels:
Some had 3 wide channels + 1 sign + 1 water like so:
[] [] []
Others had 1 wide chanels + 1 sign + water:
[]
Has anyone else built a spider- only spawning area? Any advice for me?

Well, time for me to catch up I guess.
//Thanks for the heads up.

I have this thing basically working (I can see all monsters, they show up in settings, etc), but I can't get rid of hostile mobs.
I have all creatures in hostile set to "No" with a max number of "0" and I can still see wraiths and ogres.
Any suggestions?
***EDIT***
Hmm... Before, my folder ".minecraft/mods/mocreatures" was empty!
Now there is a file: "guiconfig.properties" that contains the following:
Although it says "Spawn Bear=False", I still see bears! What is going on?
//I will try setting the number to 0 as well.

Nope, Ladders are green vine plants (The climbable ones like from the game).

Yeah, but doesn't that violet square have stagnant water?

I know there is a gap without water, but spiders still drown in the front.
