Are you sure you aren't getting confused with critical hits? I haven't tested this yet, but something is definitely wrong.
Im positive its not critical hits, Im starting to wonder if mojang kinda changed how attacking works(with the whole addition of the tooltip saying +number Attack Damage) Im thinking its adding the swords damage with the half a heart that is the default fist damage? I think thats the cause.
It appears as of 1.6 that swords and tools seem to do half a heart more damage then they are supposed to. Like wood swords deal 2.5 hearts, stone deals 3 hearts, iron deals 3.5 hearts and diamond deals 4 hearts. I apologise if someone else already made a post on this. I remember looking on the wiki maybe nearly a week ago and didnt see anything on it. I find it weird. Not sure if its just me going crazy.
EDIT: Looked on the MC wiki again, still says the swords(wood, stone, iron, diamond) do 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 hearts damage. So I am not sure atm. :S
Skyblock also has little dirt, so you have to work with whats given, when I tested out my map before releasing it I was able to make a wheat, Melon and pumpkin farm, small ones, but they work, Also another thing, Chickens will accept Melon/Pumpkin seeds for breeding, so if you dont have many wheat seeds, use melon or pumpkin seeds as they are easier to obtain with a melon/pumkin farm of about 4-6 melons/pumpkins. I was also able to get about 4 tree saplings up, so wood wasnt that big an issue.
Also I give a bed for a reason, use it asap to avoid dying continuously due to the weird spawning(Its like that because of the ssp smp merge that happened back in 1.3)
Also I was able to make a small grassy area when I tested it, its small but enough for a couple sheep.
Wait... How many melee weapons are in DivineRPG again? Not counting Vethean Weapons. Need to know for a museum I am making in a pocket dimension(Dimensional Doors) using the sword pedestals from Legend Gear.
Oh, and I thought of a new challenge if you want it. Get to the mainland. There has to be a mainland at some point, why not get to it?
Actually I built this map on a flatland with all blocks replaced with air, I made the first 5x5x5 cube with MCedit then just built it from there. So theres no land except the cross, also pretty sure theres nether fortresses as the nether is completely vanilla.
Oh well. The map is pretty cool, a good challenge, might skip full iron and gold armor though, but I have to check the nether first. If you ever release a new version, can you include the end portal?

Secondly, the nether is the same ol' nether as vanilla, meaning netherack is a good building block to get from it if you just want to make a massive platform.
Also you dont have to do the challenges in order. Lastly I wont be adding an end portal, theres really no use for the end, skyblock doesnt have an end last time I checked, so why does this one need an end? Also I find building end portals annoying.
I like the idea. I'll try it out and let you know what I think!
EDIT: I really enjoyed this! I put on some Michael Buble and just relaxed. Very calming. I must admit that I didn't manage to complete all of the challenges, but I did do the majority of them
As a novice map maker, this was very good. Keep it up!
Thats a problem similar to skyblock, the spawning system of this map is a bit weird, hence why I gave the bed at the start, use the bed to set your spawn before you do anything really risky.
This map is a simple map I made in about an hour or so, its not too hard and its a bit inspired by skyblock.
(Small edit here: You must play on at least easy difficulty and no using hax to spawn in items or fly around, also please dont suicide to restore hunger. I also advise using the bed asap as the spawns a little weird, due to weird spawns I do not advise playing this on smp.)
Basically there is a bunch of 5x5x5 cubes in the shape of a cross(I just thought of a shape out of random it has nothing to do with religion) each island has its own resources, and also some other things.
