posted a message on [1.12] Minecraft Minions - evil always finds a way

    Hey AtomicStryker,

I love this mod and have been using it on my private 1.7.10 server. Only thing is, we notice that the minions disappear after a certain amount of time. You can see that work is still being done, but the minions themselves are invisible. I wouldn't mind too much, but this makes it difficult to get the resources from them. And they also don't always put the resources in a chest after I specify one. Right now the only way I can ensure I get all the resources back from them is to walk far away from where they were mining and call them to me, and then unsummon them so they drop their inventories. While this is doable, I think it would be great if the minions were more reliable when dealing with chests. Other than that, great mod!

Sidenote, I read here that some people also have the invisible minion problem, and seemed to imply that Optifine was the issue, but no one seemed to confirm this. I will try disabling Optifine to see if that fixes the issue. However, I would very much prefer to use Optifine, and would like to know if one of the settings could be toggled to get rid of this issue.

    Thanks!

    So the first thing:
#1. Any client that connects to a forge server must have forge installed.
#2. If a mod makes any significant change -- any change to recipes, blocks, items; in general, any change to the client behavior -- then that mod has to be on the client as well.

Turn the minecraft_server.jar file into a .zip.
Merge the contents of the forge zip file into the minecraft_server.zip file.
Rename that file back to minecraft_server.jar

Place the BWG.zip file into the mods folder.

    No.

Thanks so much Keybounce that cleared up a lot

Hello, looking for a little help here.

So I started using this mod a few months back (by the way, this mod is the best!) on my otherwise vanilla server I have set up for me and a few friends. I originally was attracted to this mod because all you had to do was take a factory-fresh server.jar and throw in some files and BAM! Anyone could log onto it with a vanilla Minecraft client and play on a Beta 1.7 world. This was amazing because a lot of the people I play with are either religiously against mods or just have a hard time doing technical things.

And I check this thread after a few months of using the mod, and I see that it is now Forge-only. Or at least that's what I got from reading the OP. So I was a little miffed, because to me Forge always seemed a bit unnecessary. Obviously, I don't know much about it, but I was willing to give it a shot.

I downloaded and installed the Forge server thingy and it looked fine when it started up the server. I copied the BWG4-blah-blah.zip into the mods folder and restarted the server, and again, everything seemed to look fine, so I started up my vanilla Minecraft client (not actually vanilla, but for the sake of argument) and clicked on my server in the multiplayer menu. And it said "You do not have FML installed, you cannot connect to this server."

So I have a few questions (for anyone who is willing to answer, not just the OP):

What is the proper way to set up Forge and BWG4? I understand that there are instructions on the first page of this thread, but I am so nooby to Forge I don't even really understand them enough to know when I am doing something right. What I did is downloaded a fresh minecraft_server.jar, downloaded the recommended Forge zip file, and the current BWG server version. I turned the forge.zip into a jar file, and ran it with java (I usually hate simply changing the extension of something, but the thing I was reading said to do so). This ran what looked like a normal server and created a bunch of folders and files, some of which I recognized as typical server files, and others looked new. I copied the BWG4 zip into the newly created mods folder and restarted the server. It looked fine. But when I tried to change generator settings in the properties file and tried to make a new world, the server gave a crash error (I don't have the details right now, I apologize but I am too tired to even go back to look at it). But anyway, that's almost besides the point. My question is, does that sound like the correct way to set up a server with Forge and this mod?

Second question, If I have the Forge server up with this mod installed, will players with vanilla clients be able to log in? This might sound stupid, but I really have no idea how Forge works so it could seem to go either way with me.

Third, (I'm sure this has been tossed around a lot) is there now, or will there ever be again, a current version of this mod that I would be able to install on my server without Forge? This would make hosting a server so much simpler for me since I wouldn't have to educate myself in the hard science of Forge. (Right now I am using an outdated version of the mod which works for vanilla servers, but when the 1.6 update comes out next week the outdated versions of the mod will most likely not work with it).

Sorry for the short novel, but I would appreciate some feedback on any part of it. It may be frustrating how ignorant I am of some things, so I apologize for that as well. But seriously guys, any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Hey infinitiesloop, I don't know if this has been addressed, but when I play with the coordinates showing the Y value is 1 more than it should be, i.e. I am on level 10.000 it shows 11 in the ControlPack coords. honestly not even a major problem for me but just in case it is for someone else

So I have this mod installed on my server, and it was working fine (I was using the beta generator) but then I went about a thousand blocks in one direction and I started to see swamps and extreme hills (from Minecraft's default generator). is there some sort of boundary area where the beta generator works and just stops working outside of?

Edit: to add some details, it actually looked like there was a cutoff point. at some z coordinate, chunks began to be generated using the default generator. chunks on one side of the line were completely different (different biome, different height; some were purely ocean). and it looks like every new chunk I generate is using the default instead of the beta. maybe this is just a glitch

I just tried it for the server, and unless I'm doing it wrong, it's not compatible

On servers it is in your server.properties. There is a sample behind a spoiler above the FAQ in the OP.

For client when you create your world there is the button reading "More World Options" and clicking through World Types will show you all the BWG options and any additional configs they have.

Ah, okay - thanks! I must have missed that spoiler

sorry if this has already been addressed, but how exactly do I choose the type of world generation on a server world (after installing this mod on it)?

Edit: oh wow it looks like this is being addressed right above me here

... well I guess that explains how to change the options in the client version, but what I'm looking for is how to do it if you only have the server mod installed.

When I have this mod with Zan's minimap, too many items, modloader, and optifine, water is invisible. When I have the other mods and not this one, i can see the water.

Make sure the ban.class in minecraft.jar is the one from OptiFine, and not the one from this mod. This is necessary to see water if you have OptiFine installed. I don't remember which features of this mod you lose, but they aren't any of the really important ones. You can read about it in the "Compatibility with other mods" spoiler on the first post of this thread.

Thought of some feedback today while playing; I think it would be really cool to have an "auto-tool button" that makes it so auto-tool is only enabled while that button is being held down, and is disabled otherwise. Either that or maybe an auto-tool toggle button. Feasible?
