Great screenshots so far! I can't wait for the better default to arrive! I do have some suggestions for new biomes, Ted.
While the vanilla roofed forest is neat, it doesn't quite have that "Fanghorn" feel to it that I think the devs were going for. I feel that a "dark forest" biome would be a great addition. Dark oaks would be larger and with more large branches coming out at odd angles, and they should either be closer together or have larger canopies with more wood blocks in them for even less sunlight penetration. The roofed forest can spawn hostile mobs during the day, but it is rare. This dark forest biome should be dark enough where mob spawning is common during the day. Also, podzol should be used for some or almost all of the forest floor, since grass would not be able to grow in such an environment. Finally, the border of the dark forest biome should be sort of enclosed, with leaf blocks reaching down to the ground in most places where the biome transitions. This would add to the heavy, claustrophobic atmosphere inside the forest. What I'm getting at is the roofed forest on steroids, a "roofed forest plus" biome, if you will.
I would love to see some more variety with the new American West themed stuff, such as a derivation of the Bryce Canyon biome, perhaps reflecting Arches National Park, done with hardened stained clay. Or maybe a towering butte, set in the middle of a flat savanna or a desert. Although vanilla doesn't have a salt block per se, you could use regular sand and make a salt flats biome, sort of like the little red sand depressions in the mesa biome now, but much larger and flatter, with little to no cacti or dead shrubs. I could see it being used as an in-world superflat region to test things out, just like we use the salt flats irl.
Finally, I'd like to see some waterfalls in minecraft, not just the random source block in an extreme hills biome. I'm talking about a lake, with a good half dozen to a dozen block wide downpour 30-35 blocks high, into a river. Can you say, prime real-estate? Because these locations would definitely be competed over by builders on servers.
I started working on a canyon biomes this morning but I don't know if it's going to be as beautiful as the Bryce canyon. creating those kind of spikes/pillars is very hard. maybe i can generate them like trees but i'll have to test that. I can use white stained clay for salt blocks.
Not sure if this is a bug report or feature request, but in the Alpha 1.1 generator in 1.7.10, the dungeon chests never seem to generate cocoa beans, dark oak saplings, or acacia saplings. Am I just unlucky, should I be looking someplace else, etc?
thanks for reporting, I'll put this on my todo list.
1. Browse to your .minecraft/bin or server folder.
2. Open minecraft.jar or minecraft_server.jar with WinRAR.
3. Install Forge 6.3.0
4. Drag and drop the better world generation 3 files into the jar.
5. Client only: Delete the META-INF folder.
6. Backup your worlds.
I cant get it to generate any BWG4 worlds on multiplayer for 1.6.4. On the multiplayer server text file, I put the level typ[e to BWG4 and it only generates vanilla 1.6.4 worlds. Any idea what I am doing wrong? I know it is something to do with the level type.
4. Start Minecraft(client) and create a new world.
5. Select the bwg4 worldtype.
6. Click on the customize button.
7. Select a generatortype you like.
8. Click on "Copy generator-settings to Clipboard".
9. Open the server.properties file.
10. Set level-type to "BWG4".
11. Paste the generator settings at "generator-settings=".
a few questions, because I really like the looks of this. one: is this a forge mod? this is the stupidest question ever, but I would like to know because I won't be able to use it if it isn't. two: assuming yes to question one, if I have other mods that add ores, will those ores still generate? question three: still assuming question one, will trees and biomes added by other mods still generate? and question four: no questions left. thanks for any answers.
EDIT: question one is stupid, I scrolled up half a page and saw that it was. sorry. but my other questions still stand.
