Can't you simply get 4x more chicken to get roughly the same amount of hatched eggs?

I like to dig a 3x3x3 hole and kick my chickens in. Put a transposer in the floor and deployer in the wall, both on a timer. You'll have a chicken factory hatching eggs as quickly as the chickens can lay them. You don't need a 100% return if you shoot enough eggs, in my opinion.

I'm a bit late to the party (as usual), but I was just reading about the planned Redstone Update for vanilla. I'm interested to hear how (and if) the apparently total re-imagining of redstone carrying analog signals will affect RedPower. Looking at some of the additions, they're clearly taking some inspiration from modders - but I wonder if it isn't more disruptive than welcome.

I'm never adding a BUD sensor, they are much too low-level to be useful in general. On the other hand, a block type detector (like, say, "detect only fully grown wheat", or "detect obsidian") is going to happen. I've got very detailed notes on how that is going to work and what it's going to look like. It's all a matter of implementation time.

Three months later, I get curious, and search the topic for "detector". This is all the more reward I could ask for. With a block type detector, we could do so very much in the way of automation. Intelligent quarries that strip mine for valuable ores. Farms that only harvest ripe produce. Coloured wool databases that store 4 bits per block. A more imaginative person could so much more. I'm so eager for this to be implemented!

As I understand it, you update this primarily for the Technic pack, but it sure would be lovely if it was BC 3.x compatible... I am primarily a SSP player, so therein lie my interests. Just thought I'd add that bit of encouragement to whatever trickle or landslide you've already gotten.

Could you script it that the Wooden Pipe extracts the processed things from furnaces, extractors compressors and so on?

That is already done by default. Are you powering your pipes with an engine? IC2 machines tend to accept materials from the top, batteries from the bottom, and output their products from the side.

Hello!

I was wondering if you could post in the OP which Block IDs this add-on registers by default. It can be kind of a selling point on whether or not someone will download the mod. Also, it's just nice to know.

Additionally, do you have the addon set up in a modular format (à la RailCraft) so that I could just apply certain features that I particularly like? It would be a fantastic (though potentially complex) feature to implement, especially considering how many crossover type mods there are for BC and IC2.

For me, there are features of this mod that I adore and some I could live without. If I could take the "good" items without sacrificing block ids (if applicable) for things I wouldn't use, that would make my day.

Either way, thanks for the great mod!

Secondary to that, consider the functionality of Water and Lava. If something near, but not adjacent to, the liquid changes that might alter it's course, nothing happens. Instead it notices only when an adjacent block is updated. The Soul Sand will always be adjacent to the block it affects, so taking it away profides that update, immediately allowing the Sand/Gravel to "look around" and return to normal physics. This seems to fit with the current coding practice. (I haven't actually looked at the code, so feel free to correct me if you have.)
Indeed, that is an accurate analysis of the way blocks function. However the purpose of Soul Sand could be to tell the blocks next to it "don't check for updates until AFTER the soul sand has already been removed"

I don't really think we need to artificially make new ways to help people be creative.
I do. I find it incredibly frustrating that Sand and gravel have this unique ability to cause cascades, and yet there's no way for the player to take advantage of that, and with Sandstone, it's even LESS likely to find places where sand can cascade anymore.

On this and all other points, we have a simple difference of opinion, so I won't try arguing you ad nauseum. I'd like to mention though that there's already a perfectly functional, if inelegant, method to create cascades: torches, signs, ladders, and the like will all hold up sand/gravel, releasing it when the anchor block falls. Yes, you would have to make a pyramid, or put anchoring pillars throughout the cascade region (or do something more creative that I'm too lazy to think of). I find this to be perfectly acceptable for my purposes, so in my opinion, having soul sand act the way you suggest is redundant. People can be equally creative with the existing methods and achieve great results. (I actually just got inspired to create a cascade, so thank you for that. Now where's my graph paper..?)

[anchor=Soul]"Sticky" Soul Sand -[/anchor]
Mobs -
"Sticky" Soul Sand replaces the current Soul Sand, being generated in the same places, and building on its features. Players and Mobs will still have their movement speed reduced while walking on it by the same amount, but the player and other mobs will also no longer be able to Jump while on top of a Soul Sand block. The player may be able to climb up the sides of Soul Sand like ladder blocks, but at half the speed of ladders, and if so, mobs will also be able to climb up these blocks the way spiders can for any block.
Liquids -
Liquids will flow one less block as far when flowing over a Soul Sand block. This effect is cumulative for each block of Soul Sand the liquid flows over.
Sand/Gravel -
Furthermore when a sand or gravel block is placed against a Soul Sand block, the sand or gravel will act as if supported, even if above empty air. If the Soul Sand is removed afterward, the sand and gravel that were placed next to it will not fall unless they, or the block they are on top of, are broken. This will allow the player to build cascading sand/gravel traps more easily.
Tools -
Gold, Iron, and Diamond Shovels can mine Soul Sand and the same rate as regular sand. Wood and Stone Shovels mine Soul Sand at the same rate as Diamond Picks do Obsidian. Fists and other tools can break, but cannot mine.
Soul Sand can be tilled, and is the only way to grow new Gloomwood, but only by a Netherraze Hoe.
Corruption -
In the Nether, Sand or Dirt can be corrupted by Soul Sand the same way Cobblestone and Smooth stone can be corrupted by Netherrack. Likewise in the Overworld, Grass blocks can "corrupt" Soul Sand to become a regular Dirt Block (with grass) A radius around an active portal equal to the twice the number of blocks it is tall will be immune to Corruption. This effect extends in a capsule shape around the Portal, both in the Nether and the Overworld

I dislike the section on Sand/Gravel for one reason: once the Soul Sand is removed, the effect should immediately end. Why do i say that?

Primarily, because it's intuitive. If the Sand and Gravel is sticking to the Soul Sand, and you take it away, then the Sand/Gravel will fall. It makes sense.

I don't really think we need to artificially make new ways to help people be creative.

posted a message on Cats (lions and domestics)
I'm not really fond of lions, but some kind of big cat would be lovely. I'm thinking more along the lines of cheetas or panthers, but it would be awesome, if the species were appropriate to the biome they spawn in. I'm just a little prejudiced against manes. I hadn't thought about domestic cats or dogs really, but if we're doing that, we definitely need capybaras... seriously.

Or, you could just take it in your house and order it to sit.

I think I'd also prefer just building it a house and telling it to stay there (or locking it in, if there's no command to "stay", but I'm sure there will be). I don't think we need too many magical blocks to do special things that really aren't so special. First you'll have a dog house block, then you'll have a people house block and OMG! You don't actually have to build anymore! (This is a gross exageration and I know it, lol.)

Anyway, what I'm essentially saying is this: Don't ask Notch to build you a dog house. Minecraft is all about building, so build your own.

On another note: Not everyone likes dogs particularly well. (Oh dear, such evil people!) For the sake of pleasing everyone (which is such an attainable and admirable goal), I think Notch should make cats as well. Since dogs are more like wolves anyway, cats should probably be patterned after cheetas or panthers. (NOT lions. I, for one, don't want something with a ridiculous mane chasing me around.) Just a thought.

I've had creeper explosions kill other monsters. I was in a cavern without weapons one time and was running away from a creeper and skeleton. The creeper went *boom* and the skeleton was reduced to bones and/or arrows. I clearly didn't help the skeleton die, since I was just running, and i don't think it died simply by falling into the creeper's crater (it's not nearly deep enough), so I'm pretty sure the explosion did it.

Perhaps the creeper was simply too far away from other mobs, in your case.

I really like this idea. As you said, it would really make stairs and slabs more intuitive. The potential for finer architecture and artistry is wonderful. So stairs essentially become a slab (or 2x2 microstructure) with a 1x2 microstructure on top? It's really quite the beautiful system, if you understand what's being proposed.

On the other hand, I just imagined "shattering" a block of wool with a hammer. xD Realism is overrated anyway!
