posted a message on Has the most essential mod been made yet? (Monsters attacking while sleeping)

If this is the minecraft world you want, then why bother sleeping at all? If it's just to have a monster rich yet phantom-less world, then sleeping once every 3 days will give you that. I honestly fail to see what purpose this bit of 'realism' serves the game, when you can get what you're after simply by not sleeping.

If we wish to be realistic, why doesn't the player suffer fatigue penalties when not sleeping? Why can the player effectively sleep for slightly more than half of the day/night cycle? Why don't villages and players snore while sleeping? Why don't players dream? Why isn't there a unique, dreamtime world, unique from the Overworld, Nether or The End?

I am genuinely failing to see how this feature is in any way 'essential'. What am I missing? Why do you consider mob generation while sleeping to be essential?

posted a message on What Minecraft style do you play? Survive or create? One person or many people?

Single player survival almost exclusively. I wouldn't object to multiplayer if I had a group of friends currently playing, but I don't ATM. I don't think I've spent more than 5 minutes total in creative. I typically research how to do stuff online, then apply that knowledge in survival. I use a bare minimum of mods, (just MiniMap ATM).

posted a message on Floating island scarcity

Have floating islands become more rare in recent versions? I still find them but not as frequently as in the past. It seems floating islands became much less common with the release of 1.15. It could just be sample bias, so I'm curious what other players are finding.

posted a message on Bow & Sword Names

How can anyone be so lacking in imagination as to not be able to come up with a creative, unique sword/bow name?

Why would anyone be so vain as to actually need to name their sword/bow?

That said, here are two off the top of my head:

    sword - slicicle

    bow - thwang!

    enjoy.

Who builds a base in a village? Lol. Also the dynamic villages I suggest would allow villagers to defend themselves.

I build bases in villages. I'm also tickled pink that raids can now be disabled in game options.

Why do you assume everyone plays minecraft as you do? LOL indeed.

posted a message on What do YOU do when you start your brand new world

Collect basic materials for tools, food and survival. Secure a temporary base for the first night(s), (usually a shallow hole dug into a hillside. ASAP, craft a bed, thus negating the need for secure base to protect against hostile mobs. With bed acquired, begin exploring overworld until suitable/desirable 'hub' base can be located. I prefer my hub bases to be in or near a village and preferably along the shore of a large body of water, thus allowing easy land and water access.

I tend to be more of an explorer than a builder. I typically tire of any region I spend too long in, and thus my worlds tend have numerous bases. My bases will experience greater or lesser development depending on how much I like the area and thus how much I am inspired to stay in that area and improve it. If I have two or more bases I'm rather fond of, then I will make efforts to connect those bases via rail, bridge, nether routes, etc. Rarely do I build more than a cozy storage building at my bases, though I do try to create unique and interesting structures when I do so.

Perhaps threads older than 6 months or so should generate a LARGE RED POPUP reminding the replying poster that they are about to necro an old thread?? Clearly the present forum layout is not enough to prevent necro thread responses which are made assuming the thread to be current.

posted a message on Why does the world border exist?

Others have mentioned the technical reasons for the border, but there still remains the question of why are you concerned? How exactly are you restricted by the VERY LARGE yet finite nature of Minecraft. What do you expect to find beyond this border that you would not have found already? If you can't find enough to be entertained by within that 30,000,000 block radius, why do you think the blocks beyond will be any better?

posted a message on Villagers are stupid (And so am I, probably)

As for the original pole, I didn't vote because:

    1. Pole objectives not adequately defined.

    2. No 0% option.

    3. OP actually confessed the problem to be user error and not a villager issue.

It is hard to tell which workstation belongs to whom.

Hopefully this issue will be addressed at some point. It would be easy enough to implement. Let's say a villager synchs with a smithing table to become a toolsmith. The game could automagically rename the smithing table to "Smithing Table1" and the villager concurrently gets renamed to "Toolsmith 1". That way there would be no confusion about which workstation belongs to which villager and make it much easier to manipulate the professions of your villagers as your needs change and grow, or to 'fix' a broken villager as you mentioned above.

edit: the synch could even be color coded - blue stripe on smithing table corresponds to blue socks/tie/hat/whatever on toolsmith. That actually might be a more elegant way of tackling this problem.
