posted a message on Backpacks! (by Brad16840)

I'm currently playing the Horizons III modpack and it seems as though Itemducts from Thermal Dynamics aren't able to pull from the bottom of (quantum) backpacks. The pipe connects and I can put in a Servo, but it doesn't pull anything, no matter what the supply settings are for the backpack. Vanilla hoppers work.

Embers item pipes also aren't working with backpacks, and won't even connect to the backpack visually, although this could be Embers simply not counting it as a possible inventory.

It seems like the only option in the pack is just using vanilla hoppers, which is a bit unfortunate since they are a little bit slow, so I might have to have a big row of quantum backpacks all with hoppers feeding into some buffer chests that can be collected via itemducts, which seems inefficient to me.

A small suggestion in regards to research:

Once you have the Research Mastery, you should be able to Control + Click on Research Points that you have 0 of.

Right now, if you're automatically making a higher-fused Research, but accidentally drain one of its component parts to 0, you then have to go hunting down the chain to build up to that component part all over again, making the shortcut effectively worthless. You should be able to Control + Click on a Research that you have 0 of, and if you have the requirement Research Points otherwise, it should make 1 of that Research again for you.

At the very least, make Control + Click not work if you only have 1 of a component part (so it never uses up the last Research point of a particular type) so you always have a chance to make more of that component quickly as well, all the way down the line if necessary.

I actually just made this in my game :smile.gif: Let me get what worked for me, just a moment. Although, did you want the plates to also open the door, if you wanted to go out? Or is it a one-way door?

What... exactly... are you trying to do? That video just seems rife with swearing and perturbation, and is probably much longer than necessary to show what you're doing.

If you want a pressure plate to open a door, you'll have to get that power to go to either the door itself, or the block beneath the door.

    Eg:
    :chestfront: :_:
    :grass: :grass:
    :--+: :VV:
    :soil: :soil:

    If that makes sense?

You haven't been quite as thorough with the possibilities as I'd like.
So far: You step on A, and the bridge opens. Then, stepping on A does nothing until you step on B.
What happens when you step on B? The bridge closes?
Then what? The bridge won't open again until you step on B a second time? Or does B do nothing until you then step on A?

posted a message on Redstone Override Output
If you're using RS Nor latches/flip-flops, then simply having one signal get sent to every R input would reset the system.

Otherwise, an override switch is also pretty easy to use. You'd just use simple logic gates for that.
    Input-that-is-false-if-override-is-on : Regular-Input AND not(override)
    Input-that-is-true-if-override-is-on : Regular-Input OR override

    Connect the doors to a leading edge-triggered T Flip-Flop.

In that way, pressing the pressure plates once will toggle the doors, but the signal turning off won't change anything.

The only downside is that if the doors are open, walking across either side's pressure plates will close the doors, which might make things awkward. If you wanted to ensure that the opposite side's pressure plates were pressed in order to actually close the doors, that would make it slightly more difficult. A quick solution would be to cause opening the doors to turn off an input connecting that side's pressure plates to the circuitry, so that those plates won't do anything until the other plates close the door, at which point the plate-locking circuitry would be wiped, allowing the door to open again from either side.

posted a message on Biome/Geography Algorithm Analysis (Updated 11/4)
Don't you think the Ice Desert should be the thin strip along the coldest axis, with the Tundra being the "standard" result? Tundra itself has grass and other types of things, whereas the Ice Desert seems to be bereft of life. Why would the Tundra (having grass and flowers) require it to be tremendously cold, whereas a slightly warmer temperature leaves nothing but ice and sand?

Signs only let you have four lines, so you'll have to not use the topmost line which will make the letters look weird.

Try putting the door against the wall, instead of in the open doorway.

It does seem like N/S vs E/W has changed a little when it comes to doorways, but there's generally an easy (enough) solution).

Keep in mind that if you place a door in such a way that the "open" state is with the door blocking the passage (ie you place it up against a wall, for example) then powering it will close the door, and leaving it unpowered will open it.

posted a message on no water in the nether?
No. If you place water somehow in the Nether, it will remain there and act normally. However, the Nether doesn't generate with any water, and attempting to use a water bucket will simply empty the bucket with an evaporation hiss, so it's difficult to get water into the Nether without cheating.

Emphursis, you remember incorrectly; often a mere four torches around the room was enough to blot out spawners' ability to spawn mobs. They simply couldn't spawn anywhere with light level 8 or higher (or was it 9 or higher?) regardless. Mob spawners just accelerate the natural processes within a short distance from the spawner.

Except that the wire under the lower-rightmost plate is interfering with the door circuit.
