    I appreciate all the thought and suggestions. I was hoping for a single prebuilt mod pack so that it's easier to get started, but I'll definitely consider the custom route. I think a gravestone mod would be good enough to make death less punishing without making it trivial like keepInventory would.


    I feel like tech mods would be good as long as they're not too crazy or convoluted. And having quests suggest good milestones seems like a good way to guide progress and avoid being like "now what?" I've never tried any of those packs but I don't imagine that they're 100% linear.


    As for versions I'd like to stick to something fairly recent, but I haven't played in a long time so the specific version number doesn't matter that much.


    I think things like making farming more interesting, making villages more fun, and stuff that enhances the existing content is really valuable. I also think adding new types of gameplay is nice. I've heard of FTB a lot, and it even has its own section on CurseForge. It seems like it's a sort of "challenge" thing, but I'm not sure what it is beyond that. I'm also not sure what Hexxit is.

    I'm looking for a mod pack suggestion for me and my wife to play together. She's only played vanilla, and mainly enjoys adventuring, as well as a good sense of progression. She's played vanilla a good amount but gets tired of it because it's not that interesting on its own. And generally the first big death without being able to recover gear is pretty disheartening, so being able to secure equipment or possessions beyond death might make a big difference.


    I personally like base building, but would prefer something that's not 100% intensive on base design so that it'd be fun for both of us, but maybe if the base building mechanics are engaging it'll be better. Ideally there would be quests or something to help guide progression without having to look a bunch of stuff up.

    I've been playing on a local server that I am hosting, and wanted the other player to be able to play without me, and so gave her the map. However, she started out with my inventory and location, rather than her own, despite us having separate player.dat files. Is there an easy way to solve that?

    Is there a mod that changes the font in multiplayer chat? I have seen that you cant simply change the font because the default one is very low-def, but is there a way to fix that like the HD texture pack mods? If so, where could I find it?

    I want to build a random number generator for a casino on SMP. It's on a vanilla server, so a dice mod is out of the question. I have an idea, but I don't know if it will work.

    If I take four redstone clocks, with different delays,
    :Red: :Red: :Red: :Red:
    then make their outputs four different torches,
    :--+: :--+: :--+: :--+:
    could I, with wiring between the clocks and the torches, freeze the output all at the same time?


    The clocks are simple, but does anyone know how to freeze four outputs at the same time?
