this probably isn't helpful, but I have seen NO evidence that the ghasts-passing-through to the normal world feature was ever implemented, in game or on the forums. First of all, the nether is not simulated while in the overworld, so for that reason you know that mobs etc cannot pass through portals. Secondly, if ghasts could spawn in the overworld, I feel like there would be a bigger brouhaha about it. I've certainly never had it happen. (but this is just anecdotal, obviously.)
EDIT: The wiki specifies that ghasts can spawn anywhere in the nether, but doesn't mention the overworld.
Also, it has this to say:
"When a player in an SMP server dies near Ghasts or is teleported out of the Nether to the surface world (not via a portal) there is a chance the Ghasts will follow them to their new location in the surface world. These Ghasts may act like normal Ghasts but could also behave radically differently than normal. Changes in teleported Ghasts include the Ghast-less explosions and Ghasts without explosions mentioned above. The teleported Ghast may also freeze in one location or "stalk" a certain player (moving closer to a player until they touch like a normal hostile mob) but both of these are extremely rare. "
probably your client updated but the server you were on didn't, so the rules for glowstone creation are probs serverside but the graphical stuff is clientside.
um, it seems as though he's pointing out that his file must have become corrupted and screwed up his house. Try doing a search for fixing save files, I believe there are several good threads on it.
to those wondering, the specific bug is that any tool that leaves your inventory for any reason will break after being reequipped and right/left clicked.
THIS INCLUDES TOOLS DROPPED IN DEATH
I lost a suite of diamond tools this way, so just don't use tools that you have on you when you die, put them in a chest and wait for a fix maybe?
I've yet to see anyone using this pattern yet, which is amazing as you are trying to get the most sugarcanes, this pattern maximises the area to get the most canes, there's no other pattern more efficient...
Most of the farms I've seen in these screenshots could be reduced by 25-50% of the size using this set up...
Yeah, but not 25-50% of the setup time, and that's the important factor in a contest like this. You're not going to run out of space...
I think a less efficient linear design would likely be more effective in the long run.
My thought is that it's generally much easier to get and transport dirt than water, so it is probably easiest to just lay dirt down across the surface of a lake or ocean. That's what I'm doing, it's working pretty well.
once mods are supported internally, I will probably use them a bit.
I don't use them for:
1. security concerns
2. speed/processor concerns (I have a bad laptop =[ )
3. they can have "unforseen" effects on the gameplay when you combine several different gameplay mods. Vanilla has a blend of gameplay elements that I know I enjoy and will continue enjoying.
Just a thought, I actually do read the picture thread. I will say that it is hard to respond to a specific person's work, but otherwise I like that thread.
As for videos, a distinction needs to be made between Let's Plays and shorter demonstration videos.
If the super mario bros note block song had been a tutorial, would it then have deserved its own thread? I mean, look at the C-Booster thread... My point is that it is sometimes hard to distinguish between videos that should go in the video thread/[nonexistent] subforum and those that offer something in a way that they deserve their own threads.
I feel there are some inconsistencies, but I have no solutions to offer, I just feel the distinction is important and worth considering :smile.gif:
Thanks for the moderation, otherwise, 'tis badly needed.
(Also, just saying, "overzealous" is ambiguous, pointless rhetoric, and obviously inflammatory. It's hard to fix "overzealous", but easy to fix things that go "I feel that X needs to change to Y for reasons A, B, and C". Just a thought.)
With the addition of bonemeal, tree farms are largely unnecessary now. Just keep a small stash of bonemeal and saplings, go to a flat open plain of grass, and grow the tree instantly. Chop down, rinse, and repeat until you have the wood you want.
That said, I like creating a scaffolding around a few tree locations so I can climb on top of particularly large trees and get the wood unreachable from the ground.
Easily the most informative and generally well-reasoned articles I've read on piracy. Long, but if you really care about the information it is worth reading and deciding for yourself.

Is there a new difference with the bug?

Well put.
Yeah, it's definitely "harder", but it's kind of a processing speed necessity.
In the same vein, Fast graphics are harder than Fancy graphics because mobs will spawn in trees and drop down on you (in SSP).

I do like using it in the nether though, it's nice for blocking off lava or sinking into lakes, or building staircases off of long steep cliffs.

honestly, I'd just suggest a long straight line of reeds. you'll be able to collect more than you'll ever need faster anyway.
sorry I can't help on the breaking though.
