I don't mind trying, at least it will give me something to do. Besides, people could help this project. And as for memory, I think its okay to say that by the time we need that much, someone can get some storage device. Although I won't live to see it finish, I can just have fun playing with it. That's why I'm doing this.

Thank you, finally a supporter who actually understands this. As I said before I am not trying to be a hater or trying to stop you. I just want you to realize that this is impossible to actually complete. That doesn't mean you can't try. Heck I might even want to help out if I didn't have my hands full with my server. Have fun trying to make the biggest map possible but don't expect to actually ever cover the entire map. If you admit that you will probably get a lot fewer haters. It is just the posts like this that make you look arrogant and naive. :dry.gif:

Yet another comment to add to the collection...
Look, if your gonna get all up in my face, just FARK OFF! go find another topic! Look, I am doing the goddamn map, and you and the many, many, MANY other people can't stop me! I have set myself a goal and I intend to complete it. End of story. Bye bye.

We aren't trying to stop you, we are simply trying to get you realize that what you are doing is IMPOSSIBLE for soooooooo many reasons. You had problems getting your laptop charged, well as G'orzak pointed out, be ready to buy hundreds more computers to hold the hundreds of thousands of terabits needed to store the entire map. And I have already mentioned the centuries it would take nonstop to complete it. Like I said we are not trying to stop you, we aren't even trying to make you look stupid, you are making yourself look stupid my blatantly denying facts with "i will do it". Either admit it now or in 6 months when you have one city done with trillions more to go.

And what do you think people said about going into space? or when Americans fought the British, nobody thought they would win but they did. The point is, even if you think this is impossible, it doesn't mean it is.

True, problem is this IS completely impossible. Ignoring that just makes you look stupid. I did the math to try and prove to you how immensely ridiculous this is, problem is sometimes numbers get so big you can't really imagine them anymore. 5 million earths, just try and imagine that, even if you can't. You can all try, you will just die before you cover 1% of the map. It is the truth, I wanted to avoid being mean about it but some people just ignore reality in their naive quest for the impossible.

It is a bukkit plugin called dynamic map!

All you need is a port to attach it to! :Diamond: :Diamond:

    Adds a lot of fun.

Sweet I'll diffidently get that! But now how do I make a map like that, except without the players just terrain, and have it as a still image.

As a fellow adult, I disagree with you. Parents can be uneducated jackasses all the time and a majority of them have no clue what being a parent means. They just figure it means "Kid does what I say or else" and have no clue how to actually educate them on right and wrong, they just simply slap a punishment on them to get them out of their hair, sometimes not even explaining the punishment.

While we don't know his side of the story, he does seem like your typical kid who got the short end of the stick. Just "obeying" is not the answer. If his parents are wrong, he needs to find a respectable way to inform them of that. The server logs should have been enough, the fact they were not shows how ignorant his parents are. If there's one thing in life I absolutely hate it's parents who think they own their children, instead of allowing their kids some space and personal growth they just tell them what to do and expect them to listen "or else".

Assuming what his kid is saying is true, his parents are the kind I'd like to line up and run over with a bus, twice to make sure the job is done. Parents should listen to both sides of the story and analyze evidence on both sides. Not just take a fellow parent's word for it and ignore the kid's story.

*if* everything the OP said is true, these parents need to be backhanded by a real adults, because they obviously have no clue how to parent.

I agree with you so much. As a 14 year old with two younger siblings I find it absolutely infuriating when my parents instantly side with whoever is younger (so never me) in any conflict and refuse to listen to any reasoning whatsoever. I have literally had my dad walk in and get mad at me upon hearing my little brother ( who is 10) yell, without even knowing if I punched him or if he stubbed his toe.

    Hypocrites...

+100000000000 So it is not okay to ban the kid from your server for two days but it is okay to ban you from computers in general for a month!?!? I think that right there is argument enough to convince most sane people that your punishment is unfair.

IF you go to civilcraft.ca and click map; you might get things into perspective.

Wow that's awesome! How would I be able to do that for our server! (we will be eventually getting our own website too).

    posted a message on Maps
So I set up a server for me and a few of my friends. I used my old ssp world and the map (actual in game map item) is centered around my house where the spawn is, I used mcedit to move the spawn into the middle of my house. We are each making our own little town in the server and the world bigger than the map covers. Even now that I moved the spawn out of the house the map is still centered there. So my question is how do I get maps of other areas? I have also seen people use other programs to make better looking maps. What is the best program for this that works in 1.0?

Also why does OP not have back-ups?

He never said he didn't. Griefing is annoying backups or not, and you should still get punished for it.

And at the OP. I agree with everyone else. Be mature and try and reason with your parents. It sounds like they just don't understand the situation. If they still don't agree you have other problems.

I had the same problem with my server, though it went away when I installed bukkit. Normally if you log into one of your single player worlds for a second then go back to the server it will work. You might have to try a few times though.

Why would you say that? It doesn't help at all. :dry.gif:

And for the op. I would have to agree that if you can't even start a server you shouldn't have one but if it is just for you and a few friends this will help.
