The permit system: The reason we have permits is to prevent citizens and optimates from doing all of the work. By people like me, being forced to employ employees to gain the most money, creates a flow of cash. If I could just do all my production myself, with no requirements for staff, there would be much less money going around to other people in the empire.
The navy is there to protect the citizens. Can you honestly tell me, what good nation would not train up its warriors, and when the need be to defend the cities, the inexperienced soldiers would crumble like leaves before the wind?
Orders.. yes, well, you could go, get a permit for mining, and sell stuff to people like me, but where's your guaranteed wage? I pay my employees a certain wage, where you will gain more for working more. I give my employees a lot of leeway, if you want to farm, farm from my fields, want to mine, afk on my cobble generators (best way for your to gain money), want to kill, get me string, ill pay you handsomely.
The Optimates don't have that much extra power. We vote on laws, that's all we do currently. That will be the job of the senators once they are elected. The emperor sets restriction on things, such as a out of place dirt house in the middle of the city is off limits.

Just a thought, capitalism isn't just an economic system it's a social system as well, where the means of production are controlled by capital (wealth), capitalism also entails absolute respect of private property. Some of the things your "empire" represents are absolutely incompatible with capitalism.
Your system puts way too much power into the hands of governors optimates, and the emperor especially. In a capitalist society, absolute power lies in the hands of the market (not the bureaucracy) and consequently the people of the empire.
The society you've created (especially with the creation of a separate capitalist class) is more reminiscent of syndicalism, and mercantilism, in planned economies in the 1800's.
It's thrilling to take part in a market based society within a videogame, one with a thriving economy. However it's not so fun to take orders from an "Empire" when you just want to build cool stuff with other people.

At max* Don't need people picking all of them xD. Defeats the purpose.

This is a message for ALL people who wish to apply. You must know how occupation advancement works (Read the first page, you will learn it at some point), and you must choose atleast 1 permit, at a max of 5 (It has been updated, unlike the post). Unless you want to stand there and not legally be able to farm, kill animals, get wood, all that fun stuff, I recommend getting permits. Also, a note, I am employing people with farming permits to farm potatoes for me, at 162 Dinar/double chest, (20%), mine cobblestone from a generator at 324 Dinar/double chest (about 25%, but you supply your own tools) and 2025 Dinars for a double chest of string (No strings attached... pun intended).

Neu Hofheim am Wertesee
Hey fellow imperials
As some of you know, I have been busy at setting up a farm down in the south of the country, Now after a while I started to work on an idea of building some houses for workers (which i would hire) to work on my farm. After talking with Spencer for a few minutes I came up with the idea of setting up a town here instead, So this is what I'm doing.
I currently have only my own farm and 1 house build, the one of Acehard and I will continue building houses here.
I will set up a basic layout of how the town will look from above and I'll try to make it as nice as possible.
Now you might start thinking:
Why would I set up a town near my farm while Origo isn't set up yet?
Well good question.
As some of you know people need to build up Origo which actually is also a bit my job only I have a little problem.
I live around 1000 blocks away from Origo so it isn't that easy to just go to my home, get the resources, go back and work on the buildings again.
The second bigger problem I have found is that Origo is not progressing at all in the way of buildings.
Just one building excists and is being extended each time. And if you compare it to my farm, I keep growing slowly but steady, Now with a small bit of the farm done and the first house done for a citizen I do like to keep going with building up more houses near me. I already have set a certain design for my area and want to keep it to my area aswell, Don't want to mix it up with the style in Origo.
Now that you know why, Let me explain how you can get such a house near/at my farm (Neu Hofheim am Wertesee)
Well As you can see if you are at my farm, I don't make small things in building-wise here.
I'd like to go with decent sized houses where you have enough room to do your things. Store, sleep, craft or stand afk. You could even make your shop in the ground floor for example and live up stairs, there is enough room.
The design:
Well design wise you notice that I have chosen for just a bit more then the usual buildings with 1 block thick walls, mine are at least 3 blocks thick with on the outside 1 block extra to give it a little more depth and neat looking touch to it. Second to that, if I build the house on a slope I will make a foundation for it. Nothing will make the houses fell over with such a solid foundation.
Now how have I made the foundations? is there space in them?
Well I'm not investing time and resources to fill the empty spaces up under neath, instead I use torches to light it up so no mobs will spawn. but this kinda allows you to say that you want a basement and yes, it is possible. there should be enough space you make your own basement, size and all but just remember a few things. Don't make it too deep, don't make a mine in the basement or a farm. This is prohibited and if seen, they will be destroyed without notification. There is 1 rule as well about the exterior of the house, Please do not edit it without asking, I'd like to know if you want to have an extension to your house and we can see how it's going to look and if you like it. Well enough about the design, now onto the next topic.
How do you acquire such a house?
Well, As you can see with these houses, I invest a lot of materials in it and a lot of time in it as well. Remember: Each house will be unique and I'll design every house in it's own way. No house will be the same.
So I have set a price currently of 1000 Imps for it. I know what you are thinking right now, "1000 imps"!?!
Yes 1000 indeed. To the one person it might sound cheap but for the other actually pretty expensive. but this is done to encourage you to take a step into the economy.
Let me explain it a bit more:
You have a couple of ways to pay those 1000 imps:
1. The first way is to simply pay me 1000 imps for the house, pretty simple.
2. The second way however is a little bit different from the first, If you don't have enough money at first you can pay me the price in multiple parts, (example: Pay 250 first, once you have the money pay another 250 until you paid all the 1000 imps) Then the house will be yours.
3. But there is a third way, You come and work for me for 15 real hours and do what ever job I assign to you. Might be that you are working on the farm, harvesting crops, cutting wood or playing with the cattle but it also might be that I assign you the role of a miner to get me the materials I need to build. You may keep 25% of the goods you mine so you don't end up with nothing after you stopped working for the house. Same goes with all the other jobs applied to you.
Now it might be that after you paid for the house with working for me you still want to stay working for me, well this way we will talk about a salary, You will get paid for the things you do aside of still getting at least 15% of the goods you mine/harvest.
And at the end, remember once the houses are getting bigger/nicer the price may go up, but they can also get lower. then I will update this topic to notify you of how much hours you will have to work for me for that amount of imps. (price).
What can I do when I don't work for you?
Well, you may decide that yourself. It might be that other companies are not that far away from the town and are looking for employees or you can start your own as soon you have the required title of Tradesman.
Also just take note that I will be building everything here and sadly but true, I do not allow people to build here on my land,
the peninsula:
The land for the town:
And just a bit outside the marked lines, just leave space for further development.
Hope I informed you enough about Neu Hofheim am Wertesee, if not don't be afraid to ask!
I want to hear your question!

Today, the United States of America is celebrating a holiday known as Veterans Day. This day is in commemoration of the armistice signed following World War One and celebrated all active, retired, or deceased members of the US military. For those of you who are American, I encourage you to put on an American flag pin today (if you have one) or go out of your way to show your support for United States military; without her, this bold and noble nation of liberty would not exist.
For those of you who are not American, today is still the celebration of the armistice of World War One. I encourage any and all to show support for your own military during this time. Without a force of defense, no nation could stand against the blows of tyranny.
Thank you and All Hail the Empire

By order of Imperial Senate and the Emperor, trade restrictions against the Skeurhiel have been officially rescinded. Restrictions on international travel and communication imposed on the Skeurkiel from the Empire are still in place (in the case of communication, only discussions on trading are allowed).
In other news, congratulations are in order for Master Chief Petty Oficer of the Navy Tepfer. Tepfer has ascended the ranks and has become Commander Tepfer of the GSN.
At present, the position of Captain of the GSN has been vested into the hands of the Emperor following our good and loyal friend, Sombre, retiring from the position.
That is all for now friends!

Good news all! I have the pleasure to announce the Grand Spencorian Empire and the Republic of Fiume have officially opened up trade negotiations. Imperial peoples and businesses are encouraged to take part in the great economic opportunities between our nation and the developing people of Fiume. The Imperial government hopes this will be a way to move into better relations with the nation and, in the end, gain a friend in this wild world of minecraftia.
All Hail the Empire!

It is to my great dismay to announce that Ottuve, leader of the Skeirkhiel, has insulted - and through such insult threatened - our Grand Empire, loyal Captain, and Emperor. By order of the Imperial Senate and the Emperor, all relations with Skeirkhiel are severed, with the aim not for outright war but for the maintanance of a neutral, if not hostile relationship. All Imperials are now restricted from entering into Skeirkhiel land and barred from interacting with their citizens.
Until this present conflict might be resolved, this is the will of the Empire as made by the Imperial Senate and the Emperor.
On a happier note, construction is going fantastically in Origo. The following are a list of the builds most recently completed:
The warehouse
The port district with a crane for shipping supplies
A police station connected with a jail
A Blitzklinge office within the capital
What is still on the list to complete:
A ship at port
A newly made shopping district
A Grand Courthouse
A Grand Railway station
And much much more!
Since I am typing this from my IPad, it probably does not look as nice as preferred, but I will be sure to either jazz it up later or add pictures of what has been completed in a later post.
For now, my friends, as always,

Due to some maintenance issues, the Agion server is down at the moment. It should be up around 4 PM CST at the absolute latest. Seeing as how this cuts into the Empire's ability to fully enjoy the festivities at Brekkur, we will, sadly, be a little late in our attendance. Since minecraft is down though, feel free to exchange steam names and play a few games there. Who knows, you might just become friends with a Senator or the Emperor!
Hope to see everyone soon!

My friend, I thank you for coming to the Empire's page and submitting your opinion. It is nice to see when individuals are freely thinking for themselves and pose questions towards such systems that they find confusing. I do, however, believe you have made various errors in your assumptions about the Spencorian state.
A professional standing army (the Grand Spencorian Navy) is indicative in every civilized and well maintained state on the planet earth. It is logical that, in order to provide for the defense of a territory or nation, that such forces be arranged so as to prevent any invading bodies into such a state, and to secure the internal state of such a territory if civil disputes of an compromisingly negative nature are to arise. The Navy, in the case of the GsE, play zero role in the politics and economy of the GsE directly. The good members of the Navy are, in fact, often being asked if they would like to join some of the private companies which are present within the GsE, completely uncontrolled by the government.
The permit system is akin to the modern system of permits in all capitalist states. Think for a moment about the modern state of business creation. In all capitalistic states, if one wishes to establish a business for themselves, they require water permits, electricity permits, land permits, etc, followed by regular inspections by the local and/or national government. Within the Empire, one is, in fact, more free to create a business as they only need to procure the necessary permits to produce certain goods (such as an alcohol permit would be in many civilized nations of the world). Land in the Empire is free of charge and always readily available to be consumed. Individuals simply have to adhere to a building code, common also in all capitalistic states.
Power which is present in the hands of the Optimates and Governors is, again, akin to that of many of the most famous capitalistic states. The Optimates essentially fill the role of the Congress of the United States of America at the moment (until the Senate is put in place - of which an announcement will be made on shortly). The only item differing in their role to that of traditional capitalistic states is that they are chosen by the Imperial government. The reason behind this maneuver is not economically nor socially motivated however. It is done so as to dis-allow any secretly rebellious or corruptible individuals from ascending to a high rank within the Empire, as has happened before in Imperial history - entirely unrelated to the economic or social standing of the Empire.
You appear to be in err at this point my friend, when you say that "absolute power lies in the hands of the market" where, in truth, that is a half false statement. Socially and economically this is true, as is the case with the Empire, but ultimate authority does not lie in the wealthiest businessman. If such logic were to be followed, Bill Gates would be the president of the United States and Carlos Slim the president of Mexico. Significant authority rests in the beautiful hands of the market, but not absolute authority.
The class of 'capitalist' is more-or-less a badge of honor for the individual. Thinking logistically however, similar individuals who own more than one business have similar titles within their own setting (to this point I refer to the multi-business controlling business of Bain Capital and the individual Mitt Romney before he left to run the winter Olympics in 2002). Granted, it is not normal for capitalistic nations to have a government recognition of such stellar achievements, however, on a social level, it is important to the Empire that individuals who have achieved such high capitalistic sense to acquire and control more than one business be honored in some fashion.
It is worth noting as well that all these points you have made have been done without experiencing the Empire itself. You have not seen our cities nor the vast wealth that our individual citizens have gained for themselves by their own devises. Most of the stone that is present in our capital of Origo was purchased from a local stone company. A new business started by our very own Barchelous is avidly in search of workers to fill its ranks. The economic potential and output of the Empire is higher than ever.
Boremierius brings up a good point as well, the government is essentially in place to allow for the development and encouragement of such businesses. If you wish to build something in the Empire, you have all the power in the universe to do so. You may even create for yourself an entire city! This is not restricted. Practicality states however that you would not want a wooden cube in the heart of a capital in renaissance, and so a singular permit for building exists. After one procures such a permit by demonstrating their building skills, they may build what they want where they want, so long as it follows the building rules of the Empire and the city (a factor common to many modern capitalist states). It is more than worth noting additionally that the Empire does not 'order' you at any point to do anything. If you are not in the military, you are free to live as you so desire within the GsE. I absolutely detest the thought of the government having any hand in the private life of the non-military citizenry, and so, it has never been done and nor shall it ever be done.
I would like to make a final point clear as well, this post was made - albeit very lengthy - in order to fully explain something that I have been wanting to for a while. You, Mr. ProcessCyan, have astutely raised perfectly valid queries that I am overjoyed to see have been asked. This post, in all of its lack of brevity, was not made in anger, angst, or any other form of negative action against you. It was merely made to explain - in full - the position of the Empire on these issues.
Knowing this, I encourage you, submit and application for the GsE! You have shown that you are not afraid to ask questions and I have always welcomed that mentality with open arms. I look forward to speaking with you more in the near future.
~ Emperor Spencius Provisor Klugstemann

I would like to announce to all people of all nations (not just Spencoria) that this Saturday - August 29 - at 7:30 CST, a Roman Catholic Mass shall be held in the Blessed Mary Cathedral (Beatae Mariae Cathedral) near the end of the inner city of Origo. The mass will be in Latin and on the private teamspeak server of the GsE. This mass is not hosted nor propagated by the government of the Grand Spencorian Empire. This mass, of which will be lead by our own Bagpiper (that is his IGN), is being carried out on account of his wishing to and is not done so by the request of the government.
Any and all from around the globe of Agion are welcome to come attend the mass. Your national allegiance matters not in this case and all are welcome. Donations towards the continued building of the church to make it even grander than it already is are always encouraged. If you do not feel religiously inclined, you have no obligation to attend. I ask that if you are of any other faith, or are not religious at all, that you please remain respectful to those that decide to attend the event.

Greetings all! It has been some time since I have made a formal address again to my people and now is a better time than any. School has started for many in the Empire and has, thus, bitten into activity levels. However, with leave period of the military soon ending and the fabulous plans going down in the Empire, things are looking brighter than ever. On a similar note, the GsE would like to formally declare that it is expanding its influence heavily to the following islands.
On these islands, Imperial ports, stations, scientific research centers, and possibly small cities will soon be constructed. These islands are just directly adjacent to the Empire, are rather small, and have not been claimed by any other nation at any time. Thanks all and don't forget!
