I'm curious... is it possible to add custom blocks to the list of blocks used to build the buildings? I want to make a few custom buildings of my own, but I want to use a few other custom blocks from some other mods. I can figure out my way around code if needed, so if its possible can anyone help me out?
If you ever wanted to have a thirst factor in the game, why not add a few other items to obtain 'treated' water?
For example:
Water from a bucket can be placed into a filter block of sorts, like how you smelt stuff in a furnace. i.e. you need some sort of power source to make it work.
You need to also supply craftable glass bottles or just regular wooden bowls (whatever you wish) to store the 'treated' water when the filtering is done. After that you can drink the filtered water and your drinking factor is complete!
Up to you on how much the water can clench your thirst, but if you ever make it able to heal health you better make it only .5 hearts, otherwise it'll be too OP.
Edit: Looking forward to when this mod's compatible with modloader v5!!!
I've been trying to connect to this server for a while now, but for some reason I can't connect using the ip I got... I managed to connect to two other servers just fine... so can anyone tell me what I'm possibly doing wrong?
How did you make the "to be continued..." trap in the secret ending?
He simply used MCedit to place the floating sand blocks on the house floor, then by using redstone connected to the switch which led right next to the sand blocks, he forced the blocks to 'update', which then led to the sand falling like it should normally.

Knowledge of Minecraft (Scale 1-10): I assume an 8 as I have been playing long enough to know a lot of things about Minecraft, but I'm sure there are more things I could learn about it.
How often do you plan to play the server: Honestly, for as long as I possibly can every day until either the server goes down, I have other things I have to do, or I end up losing interest in Minecraft altogether. And trust me, I won't be losing interest any time soon. =)
Why do you want to be a part of this server: I'm trying out SMP for the first time and saw this server as potentially being a really interesting one to play on. I've been playing SSP for the most part and I wanted to actually start talking to other people rather than being a lone wolf. =(
Also, I wanted to work together with my bro who is also signing up to this server, as our attempts to make our own server failed miserably... I mean with 3-year-old computers you probably understand our situation... =|
Do you use any chat programs (such as Skype, Ventrilo, Teamspeak): No, but I was thinking of using Ventrilo.

that 5X5 crafting table is unnecessary. When will a 5X5 table ever be needed instead of a 3X3?
I thought of having the 5x5 workstation to be potentially useful as you could create the crossbow, actual double doors which both open and close at the same time, and a few more ideas I thought of including blueprint paper, a blueprint bench, binoculars, and even very heavy scuba diving gear that you would only want to wear when exploring underwater for long periods. Making floodlights was also a thought on a 5x5 workstation, along with improved versions of previous tools, for in the normal world you would need to start making more complicated items to improve your life further, and you would need better equipment to make those items. The workstation also implements the fact that you would normally have to melt/smelt things before you're able to get the shape right, so it would be more realistic.
Come to think of it, being able to make different kinds of books once you're able to use them might be useful, along with a variety actual targets for an archery range. To get any sort of variety you would need more than just a meager 3x3 crafting square.
Okay, so I've been thinking... somebody probably already thought of it but I don't seem to have found it yet, so I'll post it here.
Shield:
You equip it like regular armour, but it is only usable when equipped with a sword. It will then appear on the left-hand side of the screen. You can only use it to parry or block an opponent's attack from dealing any damage if you time it right, as you will stop blocking after 1 second. You use the shield by right-clicking, and will have overall a two second delay between uses so it can't be spammed. It will have uses just like any other item and will degrade eventually (an indicator above the armour indicator may be useful in this case), but if you time it right you can avoid damage from almost everything but explosions, lava, drowning, and attacks from behind. Here are three potential recipes for a shield.
From my experience I don't ever remember stone being used as a shield, neither diamond, but if you guys want that in there instead/also then be my guest. The stick is there to act as the handle for the shield, otherwise how are you suppose to hold it in the first place?
That is probably my main suggestion, as it would be a great addition as well as make things a bit more realistic in terms of battling, especially with medieval weapons. The following are some not so important suggestions, but would still be nice if implemented.
Flaming Arrows:
Here is the recipe for flaming arrows.
[] []
[] []
[] ]" title="-<->" /> []
You can change the torch with cotton maybe, assuming that when fired it is already on fire. As per usual it would create 4 arrows, but this time they are flammable. I only say this as it would be extremely useful to set things on fire from a distance, especially those pesky creepers and spiders which don't normally burn when hit with direct sunlight. It will deal no arrow damage but will deal fire damage. Sadly as it is a flammable arrow once shot it will never be recoverable, as the fire will consume it before you get a chance to collect it. (This is my excuse for not being able to collect the arrow, so people don't end up spamming flaming arrows then collecting them back up again. You have to make it again yourself people!!!) It will act like flint and steel when it hits, so it will set fire to everything for a duration where it will either go out or move on to burn other flammable materials nearby. If it hits a mob directly however it will just catch on fire and will be dealt fire damage over time.
Here is an alternative recipe to prevent the spamming of flaming arrows further.
[] []
[] []
[] [>>-i>] []
Torch lights cloth, which is attached to arrow. You can possibly get rid of either the cloth or the torch, but I would probably get rid of the torch if the arrow will spontaneously combust. Would make cloth more useful than just for paintings and cushioning the sound of footsteps. =)
It would probably also be nice to have a little icon to show which arrow type you have equipped along with a count on how many arrows of that type you have on you in total, and a hotkey to switch between arrow types. Might also be useful for quickly lighting up a dark area during midflight to have a quick glance at the surroundings before advancing.
-----
Now, rather than just making the rest of these suggestions on a workbench, I thought I'd welcome in a new type of block that can make more elaborate weapons and equipment, and potentially make it a requirement for making any items which require anything higher than stone (as you would have to smelt the items together to actually get the shape of the item right without it falling apart).
Workstation (probably need a better name than this):
[] [] []
[] [] []
What this does is widen the crafting area to a 5x5 square, and if required can be fired up with any combustible material to finish making the item. You will need to keep the workstation window open however while it 'smelts', otherwise the materials you are using to make the item will drop, like what happens normally on a regular workbench. The fire will keep going like how it goes normally in a furnace, depending on the materials used ( ), and will take the normal 10s to fully finish creating the item of choice.
When fire is not needed, the item will immediately appear in the output box, and will work like a regular workbench. On the other hand, when fire is needed, the item will not appear immediately and will only appear once it is fully 'smelted'. The regular arrow will act as the gauge bar to show when it will be finished, and the item will appear after 10 seconds. As degradable items cannot stack, you will have to take out the finished item before the next one can be 'smelted', just like how you cook pork in a normal furnace. One thing of note is that the workstation cannot be used as a regular furnace, but it can be used as a regular crafting area. In other words you'll have to cook your pork and smelt your other singular items in a regular furnace.
It would be nice to have it spanning a 1x2x1 area, with the front always facing the player, but the game may have some problems with that... on the other hand, maybe making the recipe happen when placing on the ground next to each other like in the recipe, with the three blocks then interacting like two chests placed together to make the workstation... could be an idea, but it depends... if none of that can be done, one regular block will still do just fine. =)
Crossbow:
I know people have been having problems with the bow and gravity taking its toll way too much on the arrow when the target gets too far, so here is an upgrade of sorts from the old bow. You will need the workstation to make this.
Legend: ]" title="-<->" /> = String
[] []
[] []
]" title="-<->" /> [] [] ]" title="-<->" />
[] ]" title="-<->" /> ]" title="-<->" /> ]" title="-<->" /> []
[] [] [] []
The crossbow will be capable of firing arrows with such a velocity that it will not be affected by gravity as much, as well as reaching the target more accurately and without waiting as long. However if it is still far enough eventually gravity will still take its toll. How much is dependent on how long it is in the air, relative to how long a regular arrow is in the air for. Also allows for faster rapid fire by holding the right-click button without the arrow miraculously bending back to you away from the target mob and damaging you instead. Apart from that it works just like a normal bow will. Fire is not required to make this item, and it will not stack with other crossbows, neither will it lose durability during use.
Throwable daggers:
[] [] [] [] []
[] [] [] []
[] []
[] [] [] []
[] [] [] [] []
Can make 4-10 daggers (depending on what's decided), and can be made with gold, cobblestone, steel or diamond. You must have the fire going to make this item, and it can stack to the regular max of 64. Can be used both as a melee and ranged weapon, with the left and right mouse buttons respectively. The daggers can be recollected though like normal arrows, but cannot be reclaimed if it hit mobs or anything else that a regular arrow would hit and be lost to forever.
If used in melee combat, connecting with the target will use up one dagger, and will only deal half as much damage as their regular sword counterparts. On the other hand, if thrown it will deal the same damage as their sword brothers, but will still use up one dagger. It is also effected more heavily by gravity due to the nature of the materials used.
If people are complaining that this may not be as useful as you think due to how rare diamond and maybe even iron may be, here is a compromise on the daggers made depending on the material used.
= 4 daggers
= 8 daggers
= 16 daggers
= 32 daggers
As we all know how gold is relatively useless in making weapons, it makes the least number of daggers, while diamond makes the most. Still not as useful in terms of uses compared to a sword, but it makes up for it in that you can throw the dagger at a target.

Well, that's all the suggestions I have for the moment. If I think of any more things to add or if you guys have any suggestions or alterations you might like seen I'll update my post here. I would suggest some more things but that moves away from the purpose of this thread, because that new workstation idea opens up the possibility of making cooler things not related to combat at all.
Hmm... I think I'll try sketchup, but I'm not sure if I have enough money to get it completely. =P
I'll improvise for now, as I'm exploring ways to 'increase the fun' in the game, so to speak, so maybe I'll just experiment with the game instead... I mean, nothing's better than building it yourself and learning from your mistakes, am I right? =D
Sadly I don't want to even touch a map editor for the purposes of what I said in my first post... I seriously don't want the temptation of hacking the save file. I do have a viewer to look at my world, but I do not edit. I do this because I have a tendency to be tempted into doing stuff I would rather not do if it benefits me, only to regret it later due to it not being fun.
Lego... hmm... I think I'll do that... Although a purposely built program would still be nice.
I've been trying to find spiders in and around my mine for a while now with no avail, just a lot of creepers.
Come across one in the entire time I've been playing, and didn't even drop a single piece of string... =(
Yeah, I don't have a bow, otherwise I wouldn't be looking for spiders. =P
I looked at the thread though and sadly it was not what I was looking for... think of it more like blueprint stuff where normally you would have to design each level on a 2D plane, but this time you can do the entire thing in 3D and still be able to see inside.
I was searching for a tool to help me plan my future structures rather than potentially running into a major problem midway and having to redo the entire thing. Using the smilies here in the forums won't do, because I want to be able to plan the entire thing in 3D, which is what I really want. I am pretty sure this is at least possible, but I have absolutely no clue as to how to do it myself. I think I saw a potential program in the forums here somewhere, but the link was broken. =(
If you could please help me out, whether by providing me with a program that can do just that, or even developing a new program for everyone to use would be wonderful! I don't want to use any of the editor software out there though cause I really don't want to hack my save file... I would like the challenge without the temptation of just hacking it in, so to speak.
I also have no idea whether this is the right spot for making this request, so by all means please tell me rather than barking at me... please.
On another note... anyone know of a way to lure spiders to your base? I need some string. =P
I voted no because, be realistic guys, the Nether is technically speaking a 'hell', renamed as "The Nether" because Notch didn't want any biblical references. You are suppose to suffer in "The Nether", with the upside being very useful blocks and a teleporter of sorts to distant areas. If you really hate the place ruining the 'fun' for you, just don't go there. Simple answer, yet very effective!
Just as a small note before I begin, this problem occurred possibly due to me using a portable version which is shown here somewhere or other... I have bought the game so as you know, just saying...
Anyway, today after using Minecraft on another computer to show a friend I bring my portable hard drive back home to continue playing Minecraft, but my saved game crashes (now wishes he copied the crash text). I take a look and find the entire folder containing that world's save files are corrupted. After that I try to remove it in the attempt to restore an older save file but my hard drive stops working and freezes up my computer. I have no idea if this is the cause or that it was just coincidental, but it seems that it happens a lot with HP Simplesave externals... *sigh*
Prior to the game crashing I manage to save a copy of the corrupted save game file (don't ask me why) onto my computer, then tried to open it using a world viewer program (specifically MineView). I can see the world, but everything is out of wack. There are entire chunks missing, while others are replaced... in other words, yes it is corrupt. I'm just wondering if there is any way to recover it without using an old backup, but if there isn't it's no big deal...
I'll just go and see if I can get the crash data again so I can post it for you guys to analyse...
Edit: Forgot to mention, I managed to recover my hard drive so all is good, but the save file is still corrupt...
Edit2: Okay, got the crash data here...
