With large updates like this, I usually scrap old saves and generate completely new worlds to bypass any spawn conflicts. I can imagine animals/mobs will be able to spawn in already discovered chunks, but it would be impossible for the new blocks to spawn in the loaded chunks without possibly damaging the builds you have already made.
Playing around on brand new 1.8 vanilla world, and I noticed something odd with the new door types. I have birch wood doors- (which look fabulous) -at night, when the doors are in the far corners of your vision, and odd thing happens.
Here is the door normally, on the side of my screen.
Now, here is the same door when I move it only slightly further out of my vision. The whole thing kind of goes nuts, the door, wall, and ground completely disappear, only showing the sky and weather conditions in that direction. Its very odd!
I have yet to try this with other door types. Hopefully this is a curable bug.
