So I had this problem this morning as well. I had an old minecraft.exe left over from alpha that I was still using. I backed up my minecraft folder and the old .exe file and just downloaded a new one from minecraft.net. That got me up and running with 1.8.1 and now I'm lost in an abandoned mining shaft :smile.gif:. Good luck!
