(I couldn't seem to find any sticky's or posts relating to this, but please point me to them if there are any I may have missed.)
I've been dabbling into the ins and outs of texture pack creation for a little while now, but what caught my eye recently were the many texture pack features included in the OptifineHD mod. I've been brainstorming ideas for texture packs and came up with the idea to use the features in the Optifine mod in order to largely redesign Minecraft aesthetically.
For instance.
A post apocalypse oriented pack with mobs re-skinned to look like bandits or mutated humans/creatures, and completely new items, all while only using the optifine mod.
Of course, to completely pull off the effect, I would also create custom sound files, which can replace the originals, in order to give the retextured mobs more fitting sounds, as well as a custom language file to properly rename the game items without having to install mod packs for entirely new items. Possibly even some player skins, and a world designed specifically for the texture pack.
Thinking about this, it seems to border heavily on minecraft mods instead of just solely texture-pack content.
Am I allowed to post a texture pack (which can function independently without addons) in this forum, but include added downloads such as custom sound replacements, language packs, skins or worlds, which can accompany the texture pack, and enhance it, but are purely optional? Or would I be required to create separate topics in the appropriate forums for each category of optional content, and then link them back to the main texture pack topic?
It's okay, but you really need to work on tiling your textures. I wouldn't advise using stock photos with a very obvious light source, as it won't fit in very well in the game itself. You may also want to change the texture for oak wood.
you guessed it, Nobody had done it before, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
I think I've seen other texturepacks before that used filters; one which made the pixels like individual 3D tiles to gives the blocks a more mosaic kind of look. Though, I don't think I've seen any like this before.
It seems like an interesting idea. I'm actually wondering if this project could evolve into turning Minecraft into a 3D oil painting. x3
well, i dont see it but one last time...this is for making stone with a crafting table. Cobblestone is not rare at all. even though a furnace is cheaper than the mod, its still very slow and if this mod is a problem to everyone, im deleting it. im so sick and tired of people saying "i can make a furnace cheaper" yes you can but you need coal and its also very slow. this is 5 times faster....NO MORE COMPLAINTS...
These aren't complaints, it's just criticism, and it's something that you'll have to get used to and handle maturely if you're posting content to the public, because in the end, it's there to help you out.
Coal isn't all that rare either.
I'm sure you had a good idea in mind, and created the mod well, but the point here is that it isn't the most practical mod to use. A 9 cobble to 1 stone exchange ratio isn't very practical, especially for builders. A stack of 64 cobble will bring you 7 stone using this mod, whereas a stack of 64 cobble processed in a furnace will give you 64, at the cost of maybe 10 coal? Of course it takes time to bake, but if you have the patience to smelt ores and cook food, then I think the average minecrafter would have the patience to convert their cobble to stone, especially with such a high yield. Yes cobblestone is not rare, but it can take time to mine if you have to constantly stock up on 64 stacks to make such a small amount of stone by comparison. This mod could be more practical if you allowed more stone to be created from the cobble on a crafting bench. That would interest people more as they would save time with a trade-off that is more fair.
Of course you can go ahead and just ignore everyone's feedback, but that won't exactly help with your reception, but it's your call. Just keep in mind, you can't force people to like your stuff.
About: In all honesty...I bought minecraft yesterday and registered on these forums on the same day (I hope I don't come off as a would-be troll), but I've been messing around with the demo for over a week now, with the help of some friends showing me the ins and outs. It seemed pretty easy to get the hang of and I started building stuff in creative mode. I've also gone ahead and started doing some custom minecraft skin work; I've been into pixel art for a long, long time. Solo play gets lonely at times, and I've been trying to find a server where I can just build and hang out, and explore the landscape with people, which is kind of how I found this board in the first place; I google'd for some minecraft servers. I think out of all the game modes, survival gave me the most satisfaction, as taking the time to harvest all your materials just means you put more love into your creations.
I don't have much, but if you need to see some stuff I've made in Minecraft, I'd be glad to show you.
(And because why not?: Yes I would say I'm pretty mature. Admittedly I have my goofy/crazy moments, but nothing that would disturb or destroy. You definitely can't expect me lining your foundations with TNT and redstone.)
