Alaya posted a message on OT Forum Tips, Advice, and EtiquettePosted in: General Off TopicOT Forum Tips, Advice, and EtiquetteI've noticed that many of you have expressed a dislike for the current state of the Off-Topic General forum (And the Minecraft Forums in general). So I've decided to compile a short list of tips to help make this board a better place.
AKA "How to Not Suck in this Forum"
* Please note that this is not a thread meant to diss on newcomers, and doing so will not be tolerated.
- Read the announcements and stickies. They are there for a reason. Usually in a forum, pinned threads hold important information that admins want users to read.
- Try to post in the correct subforum. Usually we post in here because what we want to talk about doesn't fall into any other category. There are many other subforums on the MCF, check to see if your question or topic fits into one of them before posting it in here.
- Also, if there is already a thread about your topic, please use that one instead of creating a new one For example, massive topics such as MLP. If you have MLP related content, please try to keep it within that thread. Duplicate threads just cause stress.
- Don't reply to spam threads. Can't emphasize this enough, it is even a rule with its own sticky. Just report it and walk away. Nobody wants to look at spam, and the more you bump a thread, the more attention it receives.
- The same goes for any thread that you perceive to be "stupid." While everybody is free to express their opinions, doing so in some situations can be highly unproductive. For example, poster A creates the topic, "Lololol this gif is so funee"! Posters B and C can either choose to ignore the topic and let it float to the next page, or reply "YOU'RE AN IDIOT" and keep the thread at the top for the rest of the day.
- Please respect other people's opinions, interests, and (sub)cultures. If you want your point of view to be respected, you must do the same for others.
- Try to cite sources for your information, especially when starting a topic. This can be as simple as posting the link from which you got the info. Otherwise, people will often doubt your credibility and your voice might not be heard.
- Also, instead of complaining about the lack of interesting threads in this board, post an interesting topic yourself! People will be willing to discuss your topic with you, and your contribution will have made the forum a better place.
* Remember, many of these guidelines can apply to other sections as well.
For additional reading, I suggest you take a look at Crazygamer6's wonderful Common threads that just won't go away thread.
Here is the first post for you in a spoiler:
Posted 28 May 2011 - 01:41 PM
You've probably seen these threads over and over again. They take up a spot on the first page of board(s), don't really cause much discussion, and are sometimes just trollbait/flamebait. You know what kind of topics I'm talking about- The threads that never die.
Right, I'm going to try and quickly cover these threads.
---"The New Minecraft Update has Bug problems WAAAAAA"---
Most commonly seen on : Beta, Discussion.
Right, so every single time an update with any bug problems occur, you can expect these threads to pop up. Now, I'm okay with one of these threads. There should be a Bug thread on the Beta board for all the bug problems... And what do you know? There is! But users somehow ignore the stickied thread, and post threads about all the bug problems they've been facing, using them for rant rather than discussion or actually trying to find solutions. Now I'm okay with occasional "Peaceful Mode now has Mobs on it, be careful guys" kinds of threads when they're not all over the place, since they have good intentions, and not everyone is going to read the bug thread... But when "OMG There is so much wrong with Beta now!11!" is posted, It brings me to rage. They often occur in duplicates and take up space on the front page.
---"Notch SUCKS/Notch is AWESOME"---
Most commonly seen on : Beta, Discussion.
Right, so rants about Team Mojang. Oh. My. God. This thread pops up every day, I swear. Does it contribute to Minecraft? No. Does it create an interesting discussion? No. Is there any reason why these threads should stay unlocked? No. How about praise, then? It rarely pops up, so it's okay right? No, because it creates flamebait for all the people who hate Notch. Basically, it turns into a hate thread.
---"Herobrine"---
Most commonly seen on : Everywhere.
These threads are so stupid, their high mass of stupidity makes intelligent users feed trolls idiotically.
THANKFULLY, they seem to get locked quickly.
---"Justin Bieber Hate/Love/Unhate/Unlove Threads"---
Most commonly seen on : Off-Topic.
Flamebaiting. If one of these four threads is created, it will cause high amounts of flaming to occur. Nobody discusses the quality of music by the artistic value, nobody explains their points, and it's just terrible. Everybody who likes Biebers probably wishes these threads didn't exist. Everybody who hates Bieber probably wishes these threads didn't exist. If you are a human being, you probably wish these threads didn't exist. Thankfully, they aren't that frequent.
---"How do you feel about [Internet Subculture]/What's the deal with [Internet Subculture] Threads"---
Most commonly seen on : Off-Topic.
You know these. "What's the deal with Furries?" "What's up with these ponies?" Trolls love to roll into these threads, and flame. Logically fallacies are tossed, assumptions are made, faces are palmed, intelligence is thrown out the window, and everybody loses. I really don't understand how some of these get more then 1 page of replies.
Right, so that's just a few of the threads that just don't die. They come up over and over again, although some are less frequent than others. So here's my deal with them;
1. Are the above threads a problem?
(You may not agree with me, but I want to hear which one you disagree with me on, and why. With logic, please.)
2. Can we do anything to PREVENT the above threads from occurring?
(If you agree with me on the above, is there anything that can be done about the above threads?)
3. What are the threads I missed?
(I know I don't have all the useless threads that won't die. If I missed some, please add some in your post.)
4. Is this thread a thread that never dies?
(I'd hate to be a hypocrite. I checked the last few pages of this board, and it doesn't seem to be there, but If I'm being a dumbass, just tell me.)
Any other tips you have for people that I may have missed, you may post in the comments below. I may add some more myself. Thank you for taking the time to read, and remember...

You clearly do not know satire when you see it, especially with one staring you in the face such as this one. You people think he's trolling? Or stupid? How about you? Do you really think the part where he said 'They encourage youth violence; just the other day my son walked up to me and exploded' was serious? Where the heck is your sense of humor? Have you even developed it yet?Posted in: Suggestions
This guy tried to make a joke. Thankfully a few of you managed to get what he was saying, but the rest of you are the same 12 year old, diamond spawning Yogscast fans that have somehow completely missed what this guy was saying. Go watch Monty Python until you get a better sense of humor.

[PvP] [Towny] [iConomy] [mcMMO] [Medieval Theme]
Server Description
BaggMC is a new PvP server, primarily focusing on creating a Medieval looking world. You will be able to build castles, towns and even nations. Medieval looking skins are recommended, but not required. To give you an idea of what the server is about, here are a few important guidelines:
- All of us play legit, including the administrators. BaggMC is a survival server.
- Good builders are always welcome. We aim to create an awesome Medieval looking world.
- While we don't RP, we aren't a build-only server neither. It is possible to create towns which can go to war with each other.
- A 'Fortress Defense' mode is currently being worked on. This will run next to our normal world, on a set time.
Server News
Please visit http://baggmc.net/ to read the server news.
More details
-PvP
PVP is enabled in the whole world, excluding towns. Feel free to ambush some unexpecting bypasser and rob him of his valuables, but do not spoil the game for anybody.
-Building rights
Outside the cities, you are free to build wherever you want. Building rights inside a city can be managed by the mayor. Prepare to pay for your own plot, though, as city upkeep isn't free. The advantages of building in a city are:
- Block protection, manageable by you.
- Switch protection, also manageable by you (You decide who are allowed to open doors or use redstone related items).
- Your items will be safe, if you make sure nobody is able to enter your chestroom (simply done by adding a wooden door. Standard permissions do not allow anyone to switch, build and destroy on your plot.
- You're always close to a city shop, so you can sell your items without the danger of being robbed.
- Getting your own plot costs money, and the city owner has to put a plot up for sale.
- The city owner decides the local rules. He also decides whether you are allowed to join or not.
McMMO is a plugin which adds a skill system, together with some nice powerups. It consists of 11 skills, divided in 3 classes; Gathering, Combat, and Miscellaneous. The longer you perform a certain action, the higher your skill level will be, offering different advantages.
-The global economy
BaggMC actively promotes a player-to-player economy. You are able to create chest shops where you can sell or buy items. It is also allowed to trade and barter using the chat, as long as you keep it within a reasonable level.

Rules
General rules
=> Be mature. Don't rage on somebody if he killed you. Avoid massive amounts of swearing.
=> If you don't agree with something, you're best off sending me (baggerboot) a PM, and we'll work things out together.
=> Don't cheat. If you are unsure about a certain mod, contact me. The final decision about whether a certain mod is allowed goes to me.
Building / playing style Rules
=> No griefing of any kind is allowed. Griefing = permanent ban. It's easy as that.
=> Stealing and raiding is allowed. Hide your chests if you don't want other people to find your items.
=> The following blocks may be stolen as well, without it counting as griefing: diamond, gold, TNT, wheat (only if you replant it!), lapis lazuli.
=> Use a medieval style. Make your building look realistic. Look around if you need examples. If your building doesn't look realistic, we may ask you to change it. If it looks completely horrible, with clearly no effort put in it, we will remove it. Keep in mind that floating buildings do not go well with this servers' style.
=> The previous rule already says it, but I will emphasize it once more: Cobblestone/plank cubes are not the building we're looking for. Use variation as well; it makes buildings look much better. If you aren't able to create a building which looks right, I'm asking you to either look around for some tutorials on building a nice house, or to find another server.
=> Abusing shop protection to protect your own items (by selling items for an extremely high price or putting other items in a chest than the items you're selling) is not allowed. This is checked randomly, and judged on a case-by-case analysis. Thank you for actually reading the rules. To distinguish you from people who don't read the rules, please put two dots at the end of your whitelist application, so I know you have read the rules.
=> Preserve the environment. We are using a beautiful seed, there is no need to ruin the landscape. Following this rule is as simple as replanting the tree after cutting one down. Also, don't just place random TNT in the middle of nowhere.
=> Hide your mines. Not only because a world full of holes looks horrible, but also because other people can go in, kill you while mining, and steal all your stuff.
=> Don't ask/beg for items or privileges. Play legit. We all do.
=> Build your house/town away from other houses and cities. It's safer, and it looks better.
=> If you want to create a new city, make sure you have at least 3 other people who will join in your city. I won't give city building rights if nobody wants to join the city.
The one golden rule:
=> You're expected to be mature enough to know for yourself what's right and what isn't. Use common sense: If something doesn't feel right, it most likely isn't.
This rule also means that you can't go tell me "But I didn't know that was not allowed!" If you don't know if something is allowed, ask me. Common sense should take care of the rest.
Violation of any these rules may result in a kick, temporary ban, or a permanent ban. If I think somebody deserves a punishment, the admins reserve the right to execute it.
Titles & Tags
Titles
These are the ranks used by everybody. A higher title will replace the lower one.
Have questions about the rules? Are you not certain you are acting legal? Just ask an admin.
-[Admin]
Only for the most trusted players. Don't ask, these are hand-picked. Admins should be able to run the server without me.
-[Moderator]
This too, is a rank only for the more trusted players. Moderators manage the player side issues of the server and should be able to do so without problems. Asking for this promotion lowers your chances of getting it.
-[Paladin]
This rank is a rank everybody can earn. Be a nice player, play often, and you will be promoted to this title. Again, no PMs. The administrators make this decision for themselves.
-[Knight]
This rank is for the players who don't just hop in and leave again. And again, you can't ask for this title. You will get it when we think you have earned it.
-[Squire]
You get this rank as soon as your application has been confirmed.
-[Default]
Technically required rank. You'll get promoted as soon as I see you have this rank. It has all the rights and permissions of the Squire rank.
Staff- Baggerboot - Founder and administrator
- GwigWam - Co-founder and administrator
- Lolzzombiez - Administrator

As our way of saying "Thank you!", we'll grant you some items and permissions:
If you donate at least $5, you get:

In my days we did not have all that fancy shmancy food! Pork chops, mushroom stew, and if you got lucky, golden apples, and we liked it that way!
Zombies used to drop feathers. We would be damned if we knew why, but none of us would dare question Notch.
Bows were noisy as ****... and while we're on the subject of bows, skeletons did not carry them and that's the way we liked it!
And don't get me started on the mobs! Back then we didn't had stupid wolves and squids and endermen. Spider Jockeys were the new coolest thing since sliced bread, which had been invented in the prior update and all the cool kids had seen one already... Notch just took two old, already existing mobs, mushed them together, and said "There! Now stop bugging me you ungrateful pricks!" and we were thankful for that!
Now go get a haircut and get a job you bum!

The port of Corbenic swiftly became the talk of merchants all over the Baltica, and many wished to set up shop in they hoped to be a new gold mine of wealth. Before any of them could take action on their dreams however, Corbenic’s first trade store opened.
The new store was owned by Moljnir Stonefist, the son of the most popular shop in former Ironcross. The store was situated next to the warehouse, and bordered by the newly made retaining wall dividing Corbenic into two tiers.
The interior of the shop was rather simplistic, with a large counter and some fliers on the walls.
However, it was the talk of the town of how Moljnir and his wife’s living quarters were under the shop. The town’s gossips had much to gab about, of how this was never seen before for a trader of any prestige.
King Tiberius welcomed the opening of his towns first shop, and even gave Moljnir a small amount of gold for his hurriedness in creating it.
Within the week, the newest establishment of Corbenic was finished, to the dismay of all women, and the joy of all men. The Kings Head Inn brought to Corbenic a place to drink your troubles away, and lay your head over night.
The innkeeper, Marvalo Gaunt, was very happy with how business instantly took off, as men of all sorts gathered in his establishment and paid for his rooms. Tiberius himself would visit the inn, and sample the great beer while mingling with his citizens.
The interior of the inn viewed by the bar.
The standout of the inn however was the VIP room upstairs. Reserved for only those with the most coin, it was fit for a King, and held a nice view of the bay through a grand window.
Much to King Tiberius’ surprise, another merchant wished to set up shop in Corbenic, but not just any merchant. The wealthy Francis Drake wished to restart his Jewelery business in Corbenic, as his shop in the Old Port Malburg was razed to the ground. The building was quickly erected, and was the first colourful building in Corbenic. It was situated in the far corner of the harbors dock area, beside the stairs leading to the towns second tier.
The gossips gathered everyone’s curiosity yet again, with how the interior was only outfitted as a personal dwelling for his family.
Quelling the hushed talks of the wierd merchant who didn't build his promised shop, Francis then bought the small plot left beside the house, and set up a market stall where he would sell his wares.
King Tiberius was proud of how his town was quickly progressing. However, he could not get the nagging feeling of the needed protection of Corbenic out of his head. Not wanting a repeat in history of what happened to Ironcross; Tiberius withdrew to his quarters on the Midnight Pale, and started drawing up plans for the defense of Corbenic.
2
Backstory
Prince Tiberius, the eldest son of the mighty King Ivan of Ironcross, had finally arrived in Western Baltica. It had been two months since his ship Midnight Pride, and the rest of his fleet containing the survivors of his father’s kingdom, had fled its smoldering ruins being decimated by bandits and marauders. Coming from far beyond the lands of the Baltica Ocean, Tiberius had no idea what to expect in this new land, in which he only knew of from an old dusty map from the Royal Library before it burned. The only thing he knew was that he must start from scratch in these unfamiliar parts, and rebuild his dead fathers destroyed legacy.
Chapter One ~ The Arrival
Having traveled at sea for two months, Tiberius and the citizens of his father’s former kingdom grew weary to reach their destination in Western Baltica. Having sailed based on only the use of ancient maps from the Royal Library, many believed Tiberius was leading them to their deaths, as several people had succumbed to disease already.
Tiberius’ flagship, the mighty Midnight Pale, sailing the wide Baltica Ocean.
“Land ho!” cried the lone soldier manning the crow’s nest. They had finally made it to their new home.
Tiberius spent no time dawdling, and ordered the cargo ships to start unloading, and workers create the docks of the new town. First the wooden support posts were erected in the water, followed by the creation of the holding wall.
The creation of the loading dock where all cargo would be dealt with was created, along with lining the water front with cobble stone.
The ports new crane was then built, and the town’s first building, the harbor warehouse, was erected. The new warehouse will keep all of the towns goods secure, and also will also function as the tax office for goods entering and leaving the town.
Views of the interior of the warehouse and the tax office.
That evening, he called all the citizens together to vote on what the town’s name should be. Tiberius told of the legend of a great city that was heralded as a promised land, which had started under the same circumstances of theirs. It was all agreed that this new towns name shall be Corbenic, and Tiberius was crowned as the first King of this new kingdom.
King Tiberius knew much work was to be done yet, but he had great hopes for his future city state.
Note: The ship is an imported schematic, as I cannot build a ship to save my life. Credit goes to Sillouete on Planet Minecraft, all I did was change the colours some. Go give him some diamonds here http://www.planetmin...trading-vessel/
