posted a message on Boats and trading not in Windows 10 version--but also an AWESOME experience

Hi all, I bought the Win 10 version for Oculus and it is INCREDIBLE to be able to walk around inside of a Minecraft world. Huddling in my house with a bunch of testificates while lightning storms all around kept spawning skeletal horse traps.

HOWEVER, there are two things I can't do:

    1. Build boats: are boats unsupported in the Windows 10 version?

    2. Trade with villagers: again, is this unsupported?

posted a message on What's going on with Minecraft?

Well this is interesting. I set Minecraft to run using the default integrated graphics instead of the Nvidia card and it's working great! Not even any lag even though I'm sure the internal card isn't as good as the Nvidia. Very strange fix but in case anyone else has that issue that's what worked for me.

posted a message on What's going on with Minecraft?

I have a RAZR Gaming Laptop with 8 GB of RAM and an Nvidia graphics card. All games are playing fine, including very high res graphics games but Minecraft isn't. The screen endlessly flashes whenever I move my character. I've tried reducing frame rate and playing with all the video settings but nothing is helping. The only thing I can't do is reduce Mipmap levels because the game crashes if I try to move this slider.

How do I fix this issue? I'm using a completely unmodded game and even tried removing all texture packs but the endless screen flashing still persists.

posted a message on Drastic price increase for Bottles O'Enchanting? Worth it?
I notice that in 1.8 the Bottles O'Enchanting have increased to 10 emeralds for one, when I used to get 10 for ten emeralds. Have they bumped up the XP boost from them to make it worth that many emeralds or should I save my emeralds and not waste them?

I found an abandoned mine that was ABOVE GROUND in a ravine. Very cool and easy to explore because of the natural light from day.

posted a message on Minecarts move unbelievably slow since 1.8 updates
Ever since updating to 1.8, I can't use my mine carts anymore. They go INCREDIBLY slow, about 1/4 the speed of normal walking.

Any ideas what might be causing this or how to fix it?

    Thanks

posted a message on Problems on Mac
I installed Java on my new iMac (1.7.0_55). When I try to run Minecraft it says "To open 'Minecraft.app' you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?"

If I say "yes" I get "Can't download the software because of a network problem".

I've had no problems installing anything else on this machine.

I tried uninstalling Java 7 and still get the same error.

Minecraft worked immediately on my MacBook Air so I'm surprised that it's not working on iMac. What do I need to do to get it working? I looked at the Mac FAQ but didn't see anything addressing the "Network problem" error.

    Thanks

2.0 could be the same game, but with much better graphics, such as rounded corners, etc.

posted a message on Ginormous City of Testificates
Hi all, I've posted before, but have been steadily working in Survival Mode on my giant city full of testificates. I now have at least 300 or more. Here are some screenshots as the buildings start to get bigger:

Night in the City. Unfortunately, some testificates are suicidal and jump from the balconies. The ones that have really good items I need I make sure to wall off behind metal doors and then label them with signs so I don't forget where they are.

Here is the city at sunset. The building on the left is my newest addition. I'm trying to expand the city to fill all of the space, but this will take awhile. The glass building has two doors on each floor to increase the number of testificates. I'm also planning for the future and, on the side, have an enormous farm with at least 500 wheat growing.

Here is the shopping mall area of the city. Most of the valuable testificates with good items have been herded and locked into this area.

This is my new glass office building. I have to force some testificates over into this area to make it a bit more lively.

    Here's the city by day:

No city would be complete without a grand City Hall.

The testificates seem to like the reading area in the basement of City Hall.

posted a message on Help! Not sure why game doesn't show?
I move my world back and forth between two PC's. Yesterday, I accidentally wiped out two days worth of work by copying FROM my USB memory stick instead of TO it.

No biggie, I thought. I deleted the world then went to Acronis backup and restored the entire folder for my world. However, when I start Minecraft, the World doesn't show up in the list!

If I go back and re-copy the world from the memory stick, it works fine, but I've lost two days of progress.

Do I need to just suck up the lost time or is there some particular thing I can do to get the disk backup to be correct?

posted a message on High Population City
Thanks for the compliments. It was done in survival.

Didn't know that crops are required. I removed them to put in buildings, but will add some back in. Can the crops go underground with staircases and dirt if there are torches for light to grow them? I don't want to wreck the illusion of a big city.

I *am* noticing that one building, 15 floors, is jammed full of testificates. Hundreds of them to the point where you can't really even trade with them because they're too hard to isolate. Fortunately, other parts of the city have stayed populated as well. I put in a circular minecart track just to keep people moving around. I periodically smash the carts to start populating other parts of the city.

Anyone know how large a city can be maximum? Can I take up the full currently loaded area?

posted a message on Kicked out of Minecart
    What is happening:

Lets say the Minecart is going from Point A to Point B.

I'm riding in the Minecart. Halfway between the two points I'm thrown onto the ground even though I didn't hit left-shift. I can walk around, gather stuff, etc. When I exit the game and log back in, I'm in the Minecart sitting at Point B and NOT at the point where I was thrown out of the cart.

Not sure why this is happening.

Was capturing some screenshots (see below) of my city and didn't notice until later that there's a creeper running around in broad daylight. Where/when have you found creepers when they weren't expected? Screenshots a plus!

posted a message on Describe your dream (survival) server
I'm assuming you're allowing us to put in "wish list" items that don't happen in the real game.

The server would have a large world, but not an infinite one. Players could fence their property and, if fenced, no one could intrude and grief them or steal their stuff. Each player would have a limited property, though. Those willing to forego property could get a condo in a high-rise tower in the city.

ALL resources would respawn gradually over time, but not necessarily in the same location. Caverns and caves would occasionally have cave-ins where well-worn paths would suddenly be unusable.

The world would adhere to real physics. No blocks in the sky unless they were supported by poles on the ground. No bridges without supports, etc.

Anyone who violated server rules/griefing would be confined to the Nether for a set period of time and not allowed into the overworld. There would be no PVP in the overworld but the nether would be a free-for-all.
