As far as a "wood alternative" I'd say you find waterlogged wood on the ocean floor, you'd have to cook it to dry it out and it becomes something like beach wood, there could be all the variants and craftable items. If you wanted them to be farmable you'd just have to say, place a normal log of your choice under the water for a few minecraft days and it changes over to the waterlogged type. I think the idea shows merit.

Make spiders unable to climb any smooth block, if they come into contact with a block with "smooth" in its name, they won't be able to climb it or cling to it. or simply make them unable to climb or stick to packed / blue ice.
Spiders in mob farms have been a plague for a long time as they clog up any drop chute and its about time there was a way to keep them from climbing certain surfaces.

Give the same item pickup thing that the villagers have into mobs, you would unlock the item pick up by giving them some food until they like you, just like we do with horses to tame them. once unlocked if you toss the food they are currently given to breed on the ground, they pick it up and will breed on their own until the food is gone. This would allow population control, item management so you could get the amount of animals you needed while you are doing other tasks, the breeding cool down would stay the same. after all, animals don't really "need" a person around to help them make babies
Basically give the same breeding program villagers have to animals, but they would have to be "tamed" so the option to breed is unlocked. - simple?

I suggest we make a change to the clock, its roughly useless atm.
Shift + right click = opens HUD
Set a time of the minecraft day or night
Once the alarm is triggered it sends out a single tick redstone pulse if set in a frame.
Make clocks link with the time of day in the world so that once the time of day hits for the alarm to go off, it loads the chunk (if player isn't around) for say, 5-8 seconds? enough time for a farm or system to do whatever is needed and then it unloads the chunk.
These would help as timers and make clocks super useful to those of us that make redstone devices as they would reduce the cost of items needed to make redstone clock circuits, save space in builds and generally just give an added useful item to the game, just make the recipe need 4 more redstone dust to fill up the current clocks open corners in the bench.

So villagers have been in the game for a long while and have had some subtle changed here and there, The green villager is pretty much useless.
I suggest that the green villager becomes a slightly rare villager to find, if you can catch him and get him to your home location, you can basically "employ" him. A trade of say 10 emeralds would give you a villager bed item, set this in a room and that would count as his (village) in his script, if there are crops to harvest in the set area then he will harvest them and re-plant them, then he would go to the nearest chest to deposit the items. if you hit Shift + right click it would open an inventory much like the horse and you could give him certain items to do various tasks, an axe to chop wood within a radius of his set room, a fishing pole to go fishing within the same radius (wouldn't be able to catch high grade items because that would be OP), low grade armor slot to keep him alive and a weapon slot for a bow to defend himself if needed. To keep things fair, you would only be able to have one of these guys active at one time. Once the bed is placed, your character cannot place another unless the helper is killed.
It would make some of the more annoying tasks in the game taken care of as you would have an AI helping out to some degree.

Ok, hear me out here as I know there might be some blow back from this lol
There are several sounds in minecraft that can be a bit annoying, for me its running water as I (and many others) use water for farms and item transportation. I think there should be some form of glass (or other block) that nullifies certain sounds in a specific diameter per block, it detects anything causing sounds in its range and you can set what you need nulled.
I was thinking that there could be a new mob in the form of a banshee or something that drops the needed item(s) but I'm sure there could be a way with existing items. It would just help get rid of those annoying sounds while keeping the ones we wanted to hear.
(NOTE): I am aware of the sound settings, but it would be nicer to be able to shut only certain sounds up where you don't want them.

So we now have soul sand bubble effects that push upwards and magma blocks that pull down, why not make the effects work sideways as well?
Id love to make a mob farm with bubble conveners or have item tracks in glass that move things around a base through bubble networks without having the running water sounds everywhere, I know its a long shot but I think it would be a nifty additional function for the game.

Its been a while since we have seen a boss added to the game, We had the ender dragon then the wither and then the elder guardian. Why not add an ocean boss that is summon-able?
Something along the lines of a Kraken, you have to fire arrows at its tentacles to take them out (like the crystals for the ender dragon) but with health.
Taking out the tentacles removes the Kraken's main bodied shield so you can attack it.
The attacks would come in the form of swipes from the tentacles and ink shots that cause blindness for a few moments.
Ink shots would only cause blindness while a hit from one of the tentacles would cause damage (range depending on difficulty level
The Kraken could only be summoned by a depth charge thrown into the ocean over a ravine.
Depth charge would be made by 4 wood planks of any type in the corners of the crafting bench, one heart of the ocean in center, 2 tnt on top/bottom
and two obsidian on left & right side. once the item hits the water it starts to sink down and flashes like tnt until it gets 5 blocks above the ocean floor. Once it explodes the Kraken would spawn and move towards you.
Defeating the Kraken would give a trophy in the form of a head (like the dragon)
Large amount of Exp, A "cutlass" sword with random enchantment(s) - just a different design of the regular sword except it has +2 attack speed? maybe? and a Pirate hat. - cosmetic item ( can be enchanted) - I really think we need to have themed cosmetic items we can earn, we have capes! why not?!
The item rewards could come out of a chest down in the ravine where you spawned the boss or just dropped by the boss itself

I was actually thinking the same thing, but I would make them something like the phantom, if you are in the water too long then there is a possibility that they could spawn and attack, but as someone already pointed out, hostile mobs are designed to be inherently evil, maybe the drowned zombies could have infected sharks? add them in to spawn when there is a large number of the drowned zombies, much like the iron golems spawn when there are enough villagers & doors?
Its not a terrible idea to have something hostile spawn in the waters that you have to watch out for. I'd actually like to see a Kraken added in as another special mod like the ender dragon or wither. But again, something with a minecraft twist.

With the recent snapshots showing all the amazing things added with 1.13, why not give swamps the same love? here are a few ideas
Add frogs - ambient noise, frog leg food, pet, something to sit of the lily-pad.
Frog legs would act like any other meat. Eat it raw and get sick, cook it. 1/2 heart of health
Add bugs - butterflies, flies, grubs - Desperation food source, catch them with a net for collection (butterfly + frame) or to feed to frogs- like wheat is fed to other animals, ambient noises
Add a Gator mob, Gator leather-for new leather style armor, hostile mob, gator teeth for potion? (Lunge potion, Makes your jumps enhanced by like 2 blocks?
Add crayfish - Another food source. +1 heart
Owls- Ambient noise, feathers, kills mice/rats
Mice/Rats - basically aggressive version of rabbits, hostile mob, drops the small leather that rabbits drop, they also steal items left on the ground and hide them in their nests - You'll have to take out the nest to get back items you've lost. -Nests can appear above and below ground up to 12 blocks down, could also be added into abandoned mine shafts
Those are just some Ideas, give some feedback? - Yes they are some vague ideas I put up spur of the moment while on my break at work, don't bust my *alls for not having them all 100% hashed out.
Also, when are we going to be able to make sandwiches?! We have bread, meat, kelp! we can make cake and pie but not sandwiches!? add them! *prays* lol
