And that is completely unnecessary and rude. Next time, I would suggest politely alerting the thread author of their typo, not insult them. It may avoid future reported posts like the one I have just made.

On that note, thankyou everyone else who pointed out said typo in a friendly, humerous manner. Sadly me + 11:00 uploads and edits = foolish typing errors =P.

    @ stevenhippie

By any chance have you installed other mods with this one? If so, they may have replaced the crafting manager class file, which to put it simply dictates how you should put items in a crafting table to make stuff. If that is the case, I'm afraid that you would have to choose between one mod or the other, as I haven't quite figured out how to make the jump between edited minecraft files modding, and mods using another system such as the risugami's mod loader. Hopefully once I manage to get it working it would work properly in such a case. If you or anyone would like to decompile the mod and merge the crafting manager files so you get both mod's recipe sets, I would be happy for you to.

Of course I may be wrong, so please let me know if I am, and if so I can try to figure out another reason.

@ the several people who have asked if it uses bukkit, I'm afraid not. I haven't been able to compile bukkit, and thus learn how it works, so unfortunately at the moment it's a no for running through bukkit. That said, it may be possible that the mod coincides with bukkit, so I guess the best thing you could do is give it a try and see if they both run in the one server jar file.

    And finally, @darkgreen6,

you make a good point, I will work on a small video/few images to explain what the mod is good for. Hopefully that can assure you and anyone else who is unsure that the mod is legitimate =).

Got the ticket system's icons made, now I just need to do the coding.

New version of the mod is up, click beta to download it. Runs perfectly with 4.1 (self-tested of course), and managed to get hover names working =).

Working on tickets version over the week, until then I hope you continue to enjoy the mod.

Alright, it seems that people would like the tickets added in, so I'll be getting that up and running some time soon. I'll most likely release the non-ticket version first, as it will be the first part coded. And of course I will add a better description once the tickets are added. As for now however, I'm still struggling through my tafe assignments, whittled down to 2 however. So chances are I may finish tomorrow and have some time to do some work on them.

Sorry for the delay, I will do my best to get something downloadable for y'all soon =).

Due to TAFE commitments, there is going to be a slight delay in the next update for the currency mod. Sorry guys, but this assignment is a big one, and an absolute pain too =S.

However, I have made a small poll/vote for the 2/3 people who actually read this forum, about a new addition of the mod I would be willing to add in.

This addition is a "ticket" system, in which players are able to use paper and specific materials (eg. feathers, gunpowder, coal, torches, minecart tracks, buckets, etc.) to make tickets. These tickets can then be crafted together with 8 coins of a specific tier (eg. 8 stone coins, 8 iron coins, 8 gold coins) to give the player a number of that ticket's item back. The higher the coin tier, the more of the item they would recieve.

This would be a variation of the currency mod, meaning that you would have the choice of downloading the mod with or without tickets, and servers that use the non-ticket mod would still allow people with the ticket mod to join without issues.

So have a think about it, and please respond to the poll I have made. I should be finished with my current work by Friday/Saturday, and be available to work on the 1.4 update during the weekend.

Wow this is best mod ever you can accually get iron without mining and gold even tho you need tons and tons of stone and its even possible to get diamond! Best mod invented! But I sort of dont think I got this clearly how exactly do you install this to INVEdit I always use INVEdit but i'm confussed could you just reply or pm me on instructions on how to put it in INVEdit. please and thaNKs

Sorry gamerbro64, I haven't actually used INVEdit myself, so I am unsure myself how it works. In this situation, I think you would get the best explaination by PMing xXhodeb, and querying him on a more detailed description of installing it to INVEdit.

i'm working on a small update to fix the no on-mouse name now, with some assistance, once again, from xXhodeb (such a friendly person =D ). Hopefully will be up some time soon.

I'm certainly not saying don't do it. More power to you for doing it.

I just have seen a lot of people requesting currency without actually understanding how fiat currency actually works. Most of the people asking for it don't understand that money has no inherent value without a good to back it against.

(I've seen a lot of people requesting the ability to make coins in-game, which destroys the purpose of currency.)

I assume you have literally included the coins in no recipes, effectively restricting it to admin-only creation and distribution?

Of course I didn't make it spawnable only by admins, what would be the point of new items that you need to hack to gain? And what would be the point in the flowchart on the main post, showing how the different blocks and items interchange between one another if that was nothing but a pipe-dream? Instead I made it so that people would have to make some effort and do some work in order to make the coins, build up their cash and eventually use it to gain better materials for their needs. After all, as you say above money has no inherent value without a good to back it up. In this case the player is being rewarded with their labour by the coins and tokens that create the currency, meaning the goods is the effort and work itself. And does this not match the real world, where we are paid for our efforts in our workplace with currency that allows us to aquire the needs and wants we desire? If you were to read the main post, it states that coins can be changed to tokens, which then upgrade to better coins or can be traded in for building materials, eg. iron ingot, gold ingot and diamond. So where in this does the currency not show any good to give it a form of value?

As well as this, it allows shops to be made, a person can put a price on say, torches, in return for a set ammount of coins. We see this happen everywhere; walk down to your supermarket, ask for a pack of bubblegum or a pack of cigharrettes, and there is the exact transaction I planned to be replicatable with this mod.

As for people being able to create coins "destroying currency", how can someone gain money for goods if noone has any money? If I want to sell a diamond pickaxe for 3 gold coins, how can I do that if noone has a means to get any of the currency to begin with? Sure, an admin could sit there and be constantly responding to requests for money by spawning it for them, but the way I see it is that in this case there is no labour, and no effort/time taken to earn such money. Fair enough, if it is one person giving another some money for the assistance they offered then that is different, but just giving it to them because they want it does not make things better, it makes them much worse. That is the main idea behind my mod; you want it, you earn it, it isn't easy, it isn't necessarily hard, but the end result and how much you end up with depends on how much effort you put in.

And lastly, you mentioned earlier a vending machine that involves putting goods inside, then having people insert iron ingots in order to recieve the goods. Firstly, this would make the iron ingots the currency, for it is the element that would be traded for the goods. And would you remove iron ingots from Minecraft in order to stop people from finding the ore and making it themselves? Leave it to admins alone to give iron ingot to others? Sorry, I don't think so. Not only that, but a self-automating vending machine that requires no player-to-player interaction doesn't improve multiplayer survival. Instead it just seperates players further, makes it even more unnecessary for them to communicate in any way. Compared to the idea of a player owning a shop, and making the effort to persuade players that they need the item, the player communicating and telling the shop-keeper what they need, trying to persuade the shop-keeper into changing prices, I think I would choose currency any day.

I apologise if I insult you at all, but to be agonisingly blunt, I think you should research and even try the mod, actually think about the views, values and context that were used as the base of it, and make sure you know the facts instead of making assumptions, before you decide to dive right in and start throwing incorrect comments around.

Does the mod not work with Modloader? I can't craft coins after installing Modloader, but at least the game starts up I guess.

I'm afraid I can't be sure. I made the mod seperate from Modloader, as in all honesty Modloader confuses the hell out of me.

    Quote from Ter13 »

IMHO, I can't think of a single purpose for currency.

Why not instead of currency create a special vending machine? If you access it from the back, you can set what items the machine stocks until you lock it using a golden key. This golden (etc.)

That may be a good concept Ter13, but you must remember that the coins/currency system is built mainly for rping reasons, meaning you take a role such as guard, king, miner, cook, hunter, whatever, and play according to the role you chose. In this mindframe, the coin system does work better than a vending machine idea, as it gives more roles to use, and gives more variety to Minecraft. Plus unlike a vending machine, the use of coins can be expanded, eg. at the moment I am working on a system for buying wanted items using the coins (independant on a 2nd player of course), and as you mentioned before the coins could expand onto vending machines or other devices (although I think keeping it at a low-technology game would be more fun).

Of course this is my own opinion Ter, and as with everything there are always 2 sides to a concept. I merely decided to give those saying "make coins/currency" a chance to try it and reconsider their opinion, as opposed to the many suggestions of it becoming heated discussions of not needed/wanted and wanted. (something tells me the context there isn't right, but oh well, i'm tired lol).

On a lighter note, as I mentioned above I have come up with a concept to buy items/goods using the coins and your inventory. I hope to do some testing this weekend and be able to post something enlightening on the topic, but until then I will wait to give any useful info out to the 2 people still checking the thread =p. One thing I will say though is that you'll still ahve to do some work before you've got yourself set (after all, everything handed to you on a platter is kinda dull).

Thankyou for the replies and comments, and I hope I have been able to assist in those problems that have appeared for you.

posted a message on Why is it that modders...
I both agree and disagree on the topic of this thread. It is true that modders have the ability to make Minecraft better by adding, editing and/or removing certain aspects of the game to give more enjoyable and unqiue experience in-game, and in some cases encourages Mojang to add the mods into the base of the game, certainly making it better in the end.

However, without the efforts of Mojang we would not have a base code to work with, and thus modders would not be able to make the creations that they are now. As well as this, some mod aspects would not exist without Mojang's own thoughts and creations (for example we have the many creeper-mods available to us now, but if not for the original creeper, it is highly likely noone would consider it to begin with).

As a modder myself, I believe that it is not Mojang that makes Minecraft a wonderful game to play. I also don't believe that the many modding teams make this game we love so great. Instead I firmly believe that it is the combined goal of both modders and Mojang, the thousands of minds that are considering new drastic, epic and dramatic aspects and ideas for Minecraft, and the constant effort we show to build a game the way we want to see it that makes Minecraft so great. After all, it isn't Mojang's game, it isn't the modding community's game, it belongs to us, the people who dream, live and play Minecraft!

It's all Greek to me, hope you can see what the problem is.

I have seen this message appear with our testers for the mod, but it only appeared when they had other mods that were incompatible installed. Unfortunately the only thing I could suggest to fix your minecraft would be to delete all files in your .minecraft folder (of course copying and pasting your worlds elsewhere, then pasting back at the end), downloading the most recent version of Minecraft.exe, and running it to get a clean set of files.

If you don't have any other mods installed or wanted, I would suggest retrying to install whilst following the read-me instructions within the .rar file, and hopefully 2nd time would work fine. If you do have other mods however, I suggest you consider whether or not you truly want to use or need this mod, compared to the ones you recently had installed.

I'm sorry I can not assist further, and implore you to return to this thread and ask for further help in case of the same/more issues. It is my hope that you can resolve this, and have your minecraft running again soon.

posted a message on Currency mod?
I have very recently finished and released a currency mod for minecraft beta, that runs with the current version with no issues. It consists of both coins and tokens, with 9 coins of the same tier becoming a token, and 1 token being crafted into 9 coins again. As well as this, three tokens can be crafted into the next tier's coin, or 9 tokens can be crafted into the next tier's ore/material (eg. 9 iron tokens can be crafted into 1 gold bar, or 3 tokens can be crafted into 1 gold coin).

The materials/tiers go stone (crafted from 1 smoothstone), iron (crafted from 1 iron ingot or 9 stone tokens), gold (crafted from 1 gold ingot or 9 iron tokens) or diamond (diamond isn't turned into coins, but 9 gold tokens can be crafted into one). This was done to make people work for the money, they can get stone quite easily, but it is time consuming. However, this way the reward of being able to craft the tokens into usable and sometimes hard-to-find crafting materials, makes it worth it in both SSP and SMP.

If you would like more info, or a download of this, you can check out the thread at viewtopic.php?f=25&t=108172 .

Hopefully this may help with your query on currency mods and you will try/enjoy it =).

What about the mod being as old as i don't know what and thus not appicable to your shiny beta 1.2 without crashing?

If so, why has it not been corrected to work with my shiny new beta 1.2 without crashing?

    Exactly[/quote]

A good question thehoodedfigure, but unfortunately your answer lies in my above past comment. As mentioned there, I had been unable to interpret and work with the changes present in the minecraft beta coding, and thus was unable to create an updated and working version. On that note, I have returned from overseas merely days ago, and wish to try once again to divulge myself into the thousands of many lines of code, with the hope that I can change it to work with beta.

So in a nutshell; the mod is for alpha at this moment, in the past i had failed to recreate the mod for beta, and I've decided to try again now that I have the free time to try.

On that note, thankyou for everyone for continuing to read, reply and send me pm's, i have tried to reply to all that i recieved, and hope not to let you down =).

posted a message on [REQ] Minecraft Stencils
Well, the thought of a minecraft based skateboard print is pretty interesting in my opinion. I don't know about a stencil, but I do think the idea of a creeper-based one would be pretty sweet, so for the last couple of hours I've been drawing on my pc, and think I've made a couple decent designs.

I'm not 100% sure that these count as stencils, and if not i apologise now for bringing this thread off-topic. I did however make these with the sole purpose of being applied to a skateboard (theoretically). Hope you enjoy =)

Just using the creeper's skin. I thought that the idea of this is pretty sweet, with a repetitive pattern, and then an eye-catching point in the middle of the board.

A creeper tribal design, i think it would look good on a black background, dunno if it's skateboard material though.

If you like, then please feel free to use them in any way you want =)

Great job, it's awsome to see someone just starting off in coding that is able to make such a dramatic change to minecraft through a mod.

I would like to point out one small detail which will hopefully assist you, based on this statement: "SMP works now, just dont make any items from the mod or it will crash client. Ill fix this soon...".

I have encountered this problem with a mod I created for minecraft alpha, in which as soon as the newly implimented item was spawned/crafted/present in the world, any clients on the server would crash. I was however able to locate the problem to the client's Minecraft copy lacking the coding from the mod that would be needed to load, identify and allow function for the items and blocks added..

So in a more simple term, if a player wanted to join a server with this mod and use the items without fear of crashing, based on my own past complications with this and my testing to fix it, all they would have to do is download the SMP version of the mod so their computer can tell what the block/item is.

Hope this is helpfull, looking forward to seeing any new mods you design (particularly interested in this hether concept I heard you were considering =D ).
