A recurring problem I have seen is ice. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it. Ice is created in certain biomes. The biome information goes hand in hand with the seed for the map. Until there is a way to change the biomes, there will not be a way to stop ice from spawning.

Apparently a few people have had problems with mods and what not using this map on servers so I will officially say: Everyone can use this map for whatever their heart desires. It was created for people to play on, and that's what I want people to do.

I'm in a big flat desert with some random leaf blocks, what part of the world am I in? XD
Also, what country or region is spawn in?

Probably the Sahara, I'm not sure where the default spawn is.

but can you make separte downloads? i want a 1m = 1block map off norway! :wink.gif:
    the current world is 10800 * 21600 blocks = 233280000 blocks2
    norway is 323,802 km2. one kilometer = 1k blocks, so 323802 * 1000 = 323802000 blocks2

so norway as an example is a little bit bigger than this map, you can do this with alot of countries in separate world downloads! it's a bit weird to say blocks 2. but it's the same as m2 :wink.gif:

(and i don't even need all of norway, just the bottom half)

We don't have data with that much detail so it is not possible to make countries that size.

Now how feasible do you think it would be to have a 1m:1block scale of the earth, complete with appropriate or "closest" biomes?

It's possible but due to the time it would take we aren't going to do it. Also the maps we use as data have a resolution of 21600x10800; if we made the map bigger it would look strange up close due to us not having accurate data.

Are you planing to make a updated version when Minecraft is released with all the future blocks? We all ready have shrubs and tall grass now.

    Nope probably not.

    Quote from YukonAppleGeek

Another thing to, your bandwidth at http://earthmap.minecraft.us/ has exceeded. You must be getting lots of visitors :biggrin.gif:

That site had to get taken down due to a few security risks a couple weeks back. Right before it got taken down we had 2GB/min of bandwidth.

    Quote from JERealize

I visited San Diego, and why was there a lot of ice along the surrounding coasts?

It probably snowed. The Minecraft weather doesn't know we overwrote the world. There must have been a snow biome there originally.

Can you put up a mac compatible link? like a .rar or .zip file?

It should work on any computer.

Will the new TALL GRASS show up in the world?

    No it will not.

Where do you even spawn in SMP? I'm completely lost.

I'm not sure. That version is intended to be used on a server that can set a spawn point. The SSP version allows you to change your spawn to a selection of cities.

Can I have whitelist permission? I can build Edinburgh since I live here :smile.gif:

You will need to post on the server thread.

    Quote from Slyvr89

You didn't post signs for all the cities did you? I think I'm at St. Louis where I live but I'm not seeing a sign for it. I assume you only did coastal cities. Still, though, freaking awesome.

No, not all cities. I don't think St. Louis got a sign; maybe Chicago did?

Question: Was the glitch where everything underground remained lit up ever fixed? That was always my main issue with earlier versions.

Yes it was. We never rendered lighting on the first version, but we did both types of lighting so it should work everywhere.
    Quote from Dylanmessina

This is amazing, it would be cool if you could make spawn points and name them, Like the Countries or something.
Keep up the good work :Diamond: :Diamond:

The SSP does have different spawn points you can choose.

If you're having problems respawning you did not sleep in the bed. In our testing we found that Minecraft does not allow you to respawn below a certain point without a bed. If the game seems like it froze, it's looking for the nearest place it will allow you to respawn in. At least this is what we think after messing with it.

    Quote from LaugeGregers

What is the differens between the SSP and SMP version??

The SSP includes different spawn points.

    Quote from ShrpSh0otr

Awesome. One question: in the cities folder, is it Vancouver, Canada or Vancouver, Washington? I was going to recreate my house around the same spot, but I live in Washington and I know it's kind of unknown.

    Canada.

Intense, just got to wait 2 hours (seriously) for it to download.

Haha ya it can download pretty slow sometimes. A torrent download could help.

The server we were using got taken down temporarily for security reasons. All files have been rehosted and a new and working torrent has been added. Sorry for the problems.

Thanks man! Do you think about new projects?

We have a few ideas, but we aren't sure if we want to actually act on them. Maybe some day.

    Woo update! Thanks!

If you ever update this again is there any chance you can move the map over so that the bottom left corner is 0 0? This would make it really easy to calculate "you will find it if you go to x z" because it would just be the pixel coordinates on a map render directly.

    :smile.gif:

Sorry, there is no chance. 0,0 lines up with the real 0,0 coordinates.

Have you considered releasing the script that created this? Or more detail on where you go the maps?

We've discussed releasing the script. It is such a mess and confusing and it's not made to be run for any other kind of map. But we'll see. The maps we used were from NASA. It worked out because they all lined up perfectly.

    Ok, progress update.

First, thanks everyone for your patience and support. We're ecstatic that so many people like this map and are looking forward to the update.

Our finals are finished, which is a good thing and a bad thing. There's more time to work on the project, but me and my roommates are between 6 and 16 hours away from each other. The world was rendered last night and it looks absolutely incredible! But there were a couple of chunks missing in Africa. The problem was so small you couldn't see it on the cartograph without zooming in, however we are perfectionists. The map will render again tonight.

I would like to release two versions of the map: one for SP and one for MP. The only difference is with the SP version you can choose where you'd like your spawn. The MP version would not need the extra spawn choices due to the fact you can change that on a server.

I will keep you updated when I can. Questions or comments either post or PM. Thanks!

Question. You going to put an obsidian border around the map once completed?

No, probably not. We haven't considered any kind of border.
    Quote from Yotan »

So any ETA on the map cause the server is going crazy for it as well as myself.
And my advice would be to render the whole thing again just to be safe.

No ETA, just like usual, sorry. It's too difficult to pick a date then try to meet it. We will do all that we can as soon as we can. However this week is finals week so all of us are very busy.

That would be the ideal solution if it didn't take over 24 hours to get just the world before lighting and spawns.

I promise to keep y'all updated and we will work on what we can when we can.

One of the threads crashed while rendering which leaves us with about 1/5 of the world missing. We'll either have to figure out how to run just that part of the world without problems, or we'll have to make time to re-render it completely.

    Quote from PepijnPro »
I love you salexp. How big is your team currently? And how far is your progress considering the floating pumpkins and the not appearing cacti?

Me and my two roommates. All that was fixed very quickly, however we had to re-render the entire world for any changes to take place.

What's this? You have added rivers? Awesome! How goes things with some of the more minor lakes? I noticed the lake next to my city was non-existent on this map.

Keep up the good work, I have many possible things to do with this map. Consider this my seal of approval! This thread now rests within my bookmarks.

Also, do you know why this map would make my game lag? Is it due to the sheer size of the map?

I appreciate it! There won't be any minor lakes. If it's along the eastern gulf coast and it was not on that preview picture, it will not be included.

Wait. Did you insert gravel anywhere than just below seafloor?

Yes, I believe that's the only place there is gravel.
