First of all guys, the launcher is a /launcher/, does it have to be pretty? You really only need to use it for less than thirty seconds to open the game. It's a beta too, it'll be improved later. Mojang had good reasons for why they wanted the new launcher such as:
- It auto-updates itself
- Can download diff. libraries for the game now
- Supports the new login system
- Supports multiple versions of Minecraft
- Various options that some (advanced) users may want
And many more I'm sure. Play the game, not the launcher.
P.S. You can close the launcher when the game launches, it'll auto do that later. Although its nice to have open so when your game crashes (to the point where it can't even show the crash screen) then you'll get the crashlog still.

When torches are present the flames randomly appear somewhere in the air for a short amount of time.
And I thought that was just client side... Hmm.. It's annoying, but not that annoying I guess.. :/
To all:
I'll let Mojang do /their/ job updating /their/ product the way they see fit. Do I like seeing updates at first? No. Then you start to sit down and realize they're doing it for you, and what they think is best. I do mod, yes. I understand that sometimes it takes a little bit to update, but most times, its waiting for MCP/Forge to update and then recompiling (And replacing a few class names if using stuff like reflection)
Enjoy all! -

There's a small bug where there's lots of unlit areas around caves and overhangs. I just found an epic seed with lots of massive hills and caves and theres hundreds of these black spots.

or using hamachi <---- you see it techinchnicly puts your lan through the interntet
I know about hamachi But unless you giveoutsideuntrusted users the network key (Or you decide not to have that Network password key thing) then it doesn't make a difference.Quote from Gnampf
Bug:
In my case boats always broke into planks and sticks, they don't drop boats like they should do!
You have to destroy them yourself, not collide with another block. -

Don't think Minecraft will be able to run on my old computer now, thanks to another chunk of the small amount of memory I have directed to just running the background server. That, and if you make your server public for friends to join, some random person can come in and just grief your world.
Not unless they're on your LAN.Quote from Aariq
I've never had problems with signs not remembering text until this snapshot which supposedly fixed that problem. Hmm... I don't think it's actually fixed.

And the most notable missing feature is the modding API. Throwing out single-player was the first step in order to make the API possible, and that’s done now. We decided to release 1.3 without the API, because otherwise it would be an even longer wait for a Minecraft update. -jeb. Part of the ugly. Read the main topic before you post
Actually, I've read the whole topic and everyone's posts.. So please, ask me before you make assumptions about me. I know that the Modding API was pushed back to 1.4, and I know that they say they "Threw" out SSP. When they say they threw out Single Player, they meant that they're throwing away the way Single Player worked. All they're doing is moving it to a single base where the local server (Which won't let anyone else play unless you publish the world, so Local SMP = SSP, you're still going to be alone in your world, in my book, that's single player) does what the client used to do. -

Umm, I don't know where you got that idea from.. Single Player is here to stay. -

linux native client has been confirmed for steam long time ago, so when we know for a fact all 3 major os are to be supported that's why I doubt the decision to go with xbla instead. who knows maybe they're just biding their time till it actually comes out, we can only hope.
the most astounding thing about minecraft to me is that somehow its 2 weakest and most poorly implemented parts of the game, community and modding, are somehow also the 2 greatest driving forces behind its userbase, which also happen to be 2 of steam's strongest features. half the work would basically already be done for them through this client, really makes you wonder why do it the hard way?
dlc is also a no brainer on steam so not really sure what he's on about there, you could literally buy your trinkets in game, and download/install them all at the same time without ever leaving your session if they really wanted you to be able. I have yet to see other devs talk about making a conscious effort to "keep valve happy", since they seem to be peddling all sorts of maps and capes with ease. when I see a skin/content pack I want, I send them some money and a few clicks later I'm enjoying them in game, not sure who exactly would be unhappy in the process. maybe it's just his way of saying microsoft gave them a better deal on xbla? I have no idea the details so this is purely conjecture.
I'm no fanboy or anything I use all sorts of distro platforms for my games, it's just frustrating to watch them struggle with the simple things, and to know that we're missing out on so much as a result of this. but hey working for microsoft seems to be a solid business plan these days, so we can be sure they will never have trouble staying in the black, even if the platforms responsible for their succcess get left behind.
Do you know how many times a Linux client has been "Confirmed" only for us to be let down...
Also, I think you're forgetting the fact that Mojang did not make Minecraft for XBLA, 4J Studios did. -

right that's exactly how steam works ("steamworks" being the system/api they use to integrate all this community features into their pc games)... I take it you're new to this as well. probably why they went with xbl, it's all people know I guess. difference being they would be able to use mostly the same code for windows/mac/linux on the pc, to give everyone the same features you get on xbox only, that was my point.
Actually, there is a reason Notch didn't want Minecraft on Steam.. http://notch.tumblr....-no-steam-notch
And the fact that Steam isn't on Linux... that's a deal breaker. Minecraft being on Java is because it's cross platform.

Wow, you really think he removed the ore because people complained it was too rare? Why not make it more common then? Makes tons more sense to do it that way. I bet he has a logical reason for removing the ore instead of removing it because people complained.
Did you see his Twitter:
I'm sorry, but it's really annoying to get the same complaint over and over again. This way it's less confusion; emeralds are only currency
Many complain that emerald ore is too rare. It's intended to be a "nice find," not the main way to gain currency. Will remove it again. -

So then, Endermen can have whatever characteristics they want, as they aren't based on real life.
Endermen can drop green dye, that would be cool!
Because if you're going to add something from real life, but then make them unrealistic and something they aren't, what is the point of that?
Why even add it in the first place? Games are more fun when the players can actually somewhat relate to the game, or connect it to the real world.
Minecraft contradicts that.
1: Apparently water and lava both have "Sources?"
2: Making potions to have "Fire Resistance" or golden apples that do this..
3: Enchantments for your tools...
Non of that is realistic, however it still exists in the game. 2 of them were from real life. - To post a comment, please login.

Age: 17
Mic: Not really :/ I use the Kinect as a mic, and it gets pretty noisy if I'm not the only one home. On school weekdays though I can probably use it though.

I have a mic on the Kinect, but usually have it turned off.

Only have a mic some of the time though, and I have a pretty bad cold at the moment haha

Importing instances from the vanilla Minecraft launcher. It would take the game directory and copy all of the necessary files / config options.
