MinePort Networks and its background + future:
I work for X company (x being a variable). DimensionData came to use offering 85-90% off to test their services (heavily), essentially for us to become possible full-time clients (to virtualize all of our solutions). This $5 I implemented (and other fees for higher packages) was able to fill in that 10% gap that I had to pay. This project wasprojected to last 3-4 years in total. Unfortunately I received two separate emails within 24 hours. One being 3x of our VPS users (from MCForums) used their servers to spark a large outgoing DDoS attack. This attack took down most of the VMWare ESXI host which containing top level clients. The sales representative who communicated with our company was furious and suspended my account. I now have to deal with DimensionData to retrive files (and possibly reinstate the service), explaining to my company what exactly happened, and to refund everyone.
With that being said, if you would like a refund (I don't see why you wouldn't) please post below saying you would like one (then once you have posted open a NEW PM and send over your trans ID). I would like this process to be 100% public so we leave (or stay if reinstated) on good terms.
I would like to refund in this order:
- $5 users (Shared hosting)
- $5-19 users (Mostly discounted VPS users + extended shared hosting)
- $20-99 users (Mostly VPS users)
- $100+ users (only 3 fall in this category)
AT THIS TIME WE ARE ONLY SERVING: $5 users (it will be 24 hours before we go to the next level)
Regards,
Nate
PS:
- Once everything is resolved, you will receive a free 1GB RAM server with a different service for the trouble we have caused you
- There is still a 50% chance services will resume within 24 hours, I'm doing this only for legal purposes and to counter any "scam" accusation.
- We kindly ask for you to keep this thread 100% about refunds meaning only post once and that being the post requesting a refund.

[Updated] 6/4/13: If you still have yet to receive a refund, please open a dispute and escalate it to a PayPal claim as it will be a few days before the next bank transfer for refunds will be initiated. This will keep the process very organized and get your money back a.s.a.p.
On a second note, this thread will probably be locked. If I receive an email stating service is resumable, I will unlock but until then assume the worse and initiate the refund process.

And you expect Realms to be cheap!?
A 2gb VPS would cost $40 per year. I'm sure you can scrounge that up somewhere. Might take searching of many people's couches, but you'll get there. XD

You COULD do that, but I wouldn't recommend it. Shutting off your firewall opens you up to the evil people of the Internet. And the skiddies that want their own botnet.

If that is the case, don't bother with vanilla Minecraft, not only are there almost no players willing to play on that, it also isn't much of a learning experience.
Assuming you already have Java,
wget the .jar file online (https://s3.amazonaws.com/MinecraftDownload/launcher/minecraft_server.jar)
copy and paste a shell script. (java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui.)
chmod it
Optional: run it in screen
