posted a message on Mob Skin Templates (Wither, Bat, and Witch added)
After much research, I present a set of templates for skinning mobs. I was doing research on these for creating papercraft generators. I realized that these would be helpful making skins for texture packs. I have the same information in PHP files too, if anybody wants them.

Since I have not updated some of the older mobs, here is my test texture pack with all of the mobs and most of the items in the items directory as PDN files. I think some of the skins are only partially showing (like not all cubes of the golem are visible because I was checking on a couple of stray sections that the skin file has, but are not used.) At least that has all of the files in one nice zip file.

    • Pigman, Pig zombie and Zombie all follow the standard character template.
    • Ghast_fire is just the ghast template when the ghast is firing.
    • Spider_eyes is an overlay onto the spider template when spiders are hostile. It glows when spiders are hostile. It is also applied to the cave spiders.
    • Saddle is just the pig template the saddle surrounds the entire pig. Alas, including a set of reigns will not help control them. :D
    • Enderman_eyes is same format as Enderman template. Anything that is not black will glow (even if it is transparent, such as the issue I saw with a file that had a white transparent background.)
    • Villager skins are in the villager folder with different professions as file names.

For those looking to change the armor in their texture packs, the armor skin basics are covered by the various character templates. I recommend SkinEdit. Or if you want a really fancy skin editor.Armor Research AlbumThe details are as follows:
    • The helmet is the head and hat sections of the template in the "1" files.
    • The tunic is the torso and arm sections of the "1" files.
    • The pants are the leg and torso sections of the "2" files.
    • The boots are the leg section of the "1" files.

    Notes:
    • The helmet box is slightly larger than the hat box on the character.
    • The helmet's hat box is slightly larger than that, it surrounds the normal helmet box.
    • The tunic's torso and arm boxes are slightly larger than the body torso and arm boxes.
    • The boots' boxes are slightly larger than the leg boxes

    Enderdragon:
    Notes:
The templates follow the same naming convention, 640 is 10 times skin actual resolution, 1280 is 20 times. The neck and tail use the same textures (Spine Segment and Spine Plate.) They are rotated for the tail, the left sides of the boxes become the right sides of the boxes on the tail and the fronts of the boxes become the backs of the boxes for the tail.

    Fire (Blaze):
    Notes:
The body is made up of animated fire until it uses its 3 shots then it is smoke until it recharges. Has head and 12 "rods" orbiting it, 2 groups of 4 in an upper orbit and 1 group of 4 in a lower orbit.

I made my own texture pack for testing parts of these templates, so when I play for research I have techno-colored mods wandering around. :Notch: Aaron "RobotHacker" Shawhttp://papercraft.robhack.com/

posted a message on Golem Textures not fitting right?
The 12w08a update had the texture file as 96 by 96. The 1.2 preview and on have it as 128 by 128. The parts are the same size, there is just more white space in the 1.2 and on files. If you change the file size to 128 by 128 (or 256 by 256 since you say it is a 32x texture pack) the skin should work properly. Now, you don't want to resize the image (don't want to enlarge the parts that are there) you want to add more space to the bottom and right of the image. So, if you have a way to increase the canvas size and keep what is in the image the same number of pixels, that is what you want.

    Quote from pal10

Does anyone know, how to code swamps, birch and pine trees ? :biggrin.gif:

I know that birch and pine are hardcoded and would require a mod to change the color. I think the same goes for swamp color.

EDIT: I should say the "Leaves" color is hard coded.

posted a message on Dragon texture guide and template
In game it is the mostly black ender.png that is used for the Enderdragon and the eyes are purple on it. If they do add a ender_eyes.png it would be for glowing eyes (or other glowing parts as the x_eyes.png cover the entire skin.)

I've got some of the other mob skin templates over on another post.

posted a message on NovaSkin - Online Skin Editor.
Wow, this is awesome. I like that you were able to interface my papercraft generator into it.

And all that is done in Javascript? I may have to look at the code to see if I can butcher together an editor for the mobs, unless someone else gets to it first (and if any one does, they may find this to be a helpful resource.)
