In this update I think its more important for Mojang to focus on the map generation and biomes.. Mobs could easily be added in a future update without effecting map generation.
1) Oceans - I hope they put the clay back in and get rid of the gravel. Furthermore, as everyone else has mentioned the oceans need content. Coral reefs would be an awesome addition and perhaps some rare finds like a sunken ship with treasure or underwater ruins.
2) Birch Forest - Birch looks nice when mixed with other tree types but on it own as an entire forest it is just an eyesore. I kinda feel as if they ran out of ideas when designing this biome.
3) Roofed forest - I like the idea but the trees are too short and the oversized mushrooms just feel out of place to me.. (Maybe we could get some new mushrooms?)
Mesas, I like this biome it has a lot of potential. My only gripe is that the desert sand does not look good with the plateau colors. It could use a more redish colored sand or something. In addition some different cactus types like the saguaro or unique brush could really improve the biomes look.
I really like the new biomes, though they seem rather empty without much in the way of biome-specific resources and mobs to go in them. The dark forest seems off to me though; the giant mushrooms and short trees make it look more like it ought to be inhabited by happy gnomes. I was expecting gigantic, ominous looking trees suitable for Mirkwood or the Forbidden Forest. The oceans I'm far from happy about; though I like the deep ocean I'd prefer that they feel like actual ocean in terms of size and separation of continents rather than tiny things comparable to the Great Lakes.
The sunflowers are a nice touch, but I doubt their proposed usefulness for figuring out your direction; you could already navigate by the clouds, and placing a sunflower to figure out your direction isn't terribly practical. I'd rather they turned to face the sun and just served as decoration/a source of yellow dye/a food source. I like the new flowers; it's nice to have some more variety.
Amplified worlds are an awesome idea. I'm going to have fun with them.
I agree. I'm uneasy with the thought that this could be it for updating the biomes. The new biomes lack unique resources (they could really use new trees specifically) and the oceans still lack any new content whatsoever.

Its offensive to mock how the US economy functions? Its offensive to mock a quack religion? Guess you must be a scientologist.
