Big Leaf Forest is a pretty great map for anyone who wants to CTM but doubts how good they are at the game. It's not an easy map, but it's not exceedingly difficult. 3/5 difficulty? Sounds about right.

Probably spoilers when I continue, so...

Exploring is most definitely rewarded, but in true RenderXR fashion, you can be sure that you won't be a walking wrecking ball halfway through the map. Resources are scarce (if you're a crappy explorer^2), and progression is rewarding. I would have liked a rail kit at the monument - or anywhere - I would have liked some rails, ffs. I'm not wasting my frickin' iron on rails. It's not like I can reclaim the iron from the rails. Give me a rail kit, you miser!

    Ahem... Sorry about that outburst.

I initially hated that fire spread was off. I have a pretty good PC. I'm glad that fire spread is off.

Stand on some hilltops and look around a bit. It's very pretty.

There are a couple dungeons you can totally cheese. Cheese them. And also record it and make Render watch. I feel he needs to see people cheesing his dungeons after he made the Red Maze.

Huh, you didn't give us any chests for building...? In the (likely) event that the map isn't updated to include a base-building chest (which might actually just include blocks to make the map easier), then you should pay attention to which blocks you use as utility in dungeons. If it's pretty, then you shouldn't plan to get many of it. Save them.

Traps. Were there like three traps? Step up your game, homie. Thought you were tough.

Oh, in the event that you put your adventure on YT and Render watches, be sure to fling him as much **** as he flings you. Keep in mind - this guy is trying to kill you.

I've been playing other maps waiting for US03, and - maybe it's just Stockholm Syndrome - I actually do feel like I'm treated fairly in Untold Stories.

(Also, ETA on Untold Stories 03?)

TL;DR - Big Leaf was fun. I enjoyed playing it as I felt it was well balanced. Saidanmaster didn't hinder my conquest much. :P

Thanks for the map, RXR :D

    Nice that you enjoyed it!
Speaking about US03, I am almost done with making the areas, only a few more to go! Then I will proceed to the first beta stage in which I test for bugs and really bad outbalanced areas. After that comes the second beta stage: open beta! I feel that because there are enough people around I will have enough feedback in the long run.
I am hoping to get the map out in at least 2 months, but I'm getting to the end of my semester so things are getting hectic for me and I am not having much free time anymore until it's over. (lord knows I need the time)

    I've started a playthrough of Goliath :)

Really enjoying it so far (despite my early struggles, haha). MWF schedule for new vids.

Nice! I will definitly watch them! (sorry for the late respond. I was out of town for a while.)

This looks fun. From what I can see, the environment looks amazing. Will download and see how it plays.

If you give it a try you should at least do some of the areas of intersection 2. The map will then open up a lot more.

I've started a LP of Goliath on my tiny, very amateur Youtube channel, and figured that posting this here would be a great way to plug my channel um, support this map, somehow, I guess? In any case, due to most of my technical difficulties that don't involve me having a terribad microphone being resolved, there's every chance this will be a proper, full LP, though, having read this topic, I'm starting to fear for what I've gotten myself into. (7 intersections, many of which have huge open-worldish stuff? Oh dear.)

But, I've played through the white wool, and so far, it's been fun. Thus far, only the opening parkour has killed me, although I have been down to a half-heart several times. Of course, this is early Intersection I, so once again, I'm scared.

    My Goliath LP playlist

Yay! another LP! Thank you so much! The months before summer break are always really busy for me, but I will definitely watch it when I have the time.
While there are some big open-world areas, the map is still pretty linear and most of the times the points of interest are pretty obvious.
And if the situation gets too hot to handle: Just take things slowly and look for a reliable way to beat said situation. It get's pretty challenging near the end.
Good luck on the journey and remember to have fun! (and make it fun to watch too :P)

(also, sorry for the late reply. I really wish I had more time. ;____;)

Hey guys! I wanted to make some banners for every map instead of: Untold Stories 01 - Goliath - 1.1. So I was thinking:
What is the most memorable area of Goliath? Or should I mix multiple areas into the banner because of the diversity of the map. If yes, which?
I was thinking about: The Red Desert, Islands of Adventure (the big forest island) and Icethorn Mountain (in the ice area)

This map looks really good :D, what did you use to make your terrain and your dungeons?

I use Single Player Commands in a 1.6 save file. When I'm done with the area I put it in the actual 1.8 map save file. I also use World Painter for making open to the sky areas. And I use MCedit (duh, almost every map maker uses it.) for importing schematics, using filters and importing areas I made in other save files.

Why I had never heard of this map?

Probably because it only has like... 450 downloads. But you have to begin somewhere. Popular maps like Super Hostile, Vinyl Fantasy, Uncharted Territory started small too.

    Hello people, Render here,

it has been slow going with my next map. I had been working on a fire based map, but I didn't really liked how it worked out and didn't feel to work on it. I will continue when I feel in the mood to finish it. In the meanwhile I will make another map.

Secondly, I want bring out a final update to Goliath and move on. You can't stand still at the same map forever. You have to say at one point: I'm done. This is the finished product. Let's move on to the next project. I am at this point, so I wanted feedback to add to this final update. This can be little things that bugged you, balance changes, things that could improve gameplay, something that you feel that missed, etc. One point that I want to change is that the Mixer spawners are most of the time hidden. You are randomly digging around while hordes of mobs spawn around you.

While we are speaking about balancing. I have something important to ask about the two final areas of the map. so...

WARNING! MAJOR SPOILER ABOUT THE ENDING OF GOLIATH! ONLY VIEW IF YOU HAVE FINISHED IT!

I have been thinking about the final two areas of Goliath: "Everscream Depths" and "Final Screams". I really like unfair and ridiculously hard maps. But that doesn't mean that I should carry that over to my own maps. Looking back at the fake wool box I am hesitating to remove the Final screams area and put the Red wool into the fake wool box. (and of course, remove all the TNT and charged creeper spawners around the previously-fake-wool-box too.)
Another option is that you don't get blown up with the fake wool box, but I feel that "Final Screams" is overdone, so I will probably nerve that too.

So the questions that I wanted to ask about this situation are: Do you think "Everscream Depths" and "Final Screams" are too hard? Do you think the fake-red-wool-box blowing up is going too far? Do you feel that "Everscream Depths" is worthy of being the final area? How do you feel about these final two areas?

Thanks for reading this post. I would like to have feedback to make the map a better experience for other players.

Hey renderXR, I'm playing through Goliath at the moment and I have to say i am really enjoying the map! The use of traps keeps me on my toes, and the areas are really starting to get tougher. (I'm in I3 currently).

Before I continue with the map, I wanted to post just a little bit of feedback from my experience of the map. At the moment, (I'm playing in 1.1, i'm not sure about 1.2+) the traps seem a bit unfair. Without posting spoilers, it seems like even if you were at a dead sprint away from the traps they will still kill you. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing, but having traps instantly kill the player is a bit harsh.

Now the only other gripe I have with the map is:

the mixed spawners. The idea of one spawner spawning multiple types of
enemies is really good, however with the current spawn rate and the
enemies it spawns it's completely unbalanced. Not to mention all of the
spawners are hidden in the wall, so you have to dig for them. I would be
ok with the spawners if you could at least see the mossy cobble that
surrounds them, even if it was only a few blocks. At the moment you're
walking like normal and all of a sudden you have two skeletons, a spider
jockey, a witch and a few cave spiders, and maybe a few creepers.
Theres no tell of a spawner, and once you clear out the mobs you have to
spend time digging for this spawner in the wall. Just a bit frustrating
    ;P

Nonetheless just wanted to leave some feedback on the map, and I'm still really enjoying it. Hope you found my feedback a little bit useful :p.

    Cheers!

It really felt good to see you bring those points up, because I have changed most traps in 1.2. I was already seeing in an lp that people have trouble locating them. Something powerful as those should be easy to locate, that's why they are encased in moss stone: It makes them bigger. I did that to make them more recognizable, but of course, I shouldn't hide them, it just defeats the purpose of the moss stone.
Thanks for the feedback! It felt like a confirmation to some thoughts I have.

I have just uploaded a .zip version of Goliath. So if you still want a .zip file, you can download it!

Goliath version 1.2 has been released! Full change-log is within the download. Just some bug fixes and balance changes.

Do you think you could add a .zip download? If I've just missed it then I'm sorry for asking, but the maps look really great and I'd love to play them, but I just don't do .rar files.

You can download 7-Zip. I believe it's free.
I will change the format to .zip when I give the maps an update. I will probably update Goliath when some guys finish playing them.

We are on the 5th intersection. How many are there? Everything is beautiful btw. I think we have 2 treasure maps and finding the next area left in the intersection.

the surprise in the iron was almost missed on camera. Well played

    There are...

...7 Intersections! :D The last two get really difficult, so I hope you are in for a challenge. :P

    Have you finished it?!
If yes, that would be the first person(s) I know of that (finally) finished it. :D

There will be a new episode every other day at noon. We are really liking the map so far.

I noticed you guys have commands on. It's not a problem. You don't have to wait for night to come, so it can be used for little things like that. Just don't give yourself unfair advantages.

But, There is one area later on that searches for 30+ blocks every 2 seconds. So it is recommended to put the command block output to false with this command:

    /gamerule commandBlockOutput false
