Adding a few things to how villagers work/ how mobs act to them.
The idea is basically to add a way for the villagers to build/defend their villages from hostile threats both mobs and players
this entire post gives a run down of how i propose to do this.
the new villagers will work for the village. possible new editions to villager list
Construction
villager that can build walls to defend village, and new buildings. wood given by player or a 'Village wood chest'
Mason
Villager that can build strong walls to defend village, and new buildings. cobble given by player or a 'Village stone chest'
upgraded from construction villager, using maybe 25 emeralds + 64 clay balls.
rare to spawn naturally, typically upgraded by player.
Guard
animation is like a players, having two arms and being able to have two things in their hands, like a sword and a torch for example.
using gear given to them by a player or a naturally spawned villager. they now guard the village, and act as a neutral mob to players, and attack hostiles. attacks players if they punch a villager. will attack player if provoked.
uncommon to spawn naturally, typically created by player.
Lumberjack
puts cut wood in a 'Village wood chest', replants sapling
Miner
puts cobble in a 'Village stone chest'
Engineer
villager that uses resources to make a iron golem
Make iron golems much more rare to spawn naturally or not at all
this would allow for the Engineer villager to take the place in making iron golems using maybe 2 diamond blocks, 6 iron blocks, 64 emeralds, 1 pumpkin. the cost to make them, will make town guards cheaper to create.

Village wood chest: allows the lumberjack villager to place wood in that they cut, allows construction villager to get supplies for wall/buildings
Village Stone Chest: allows the Miner villager to place cobble in that they mined, allows mason villagers to get supplies for stone wall/building
Add max town size to villager ai
making construction, mason, lumberjack villages have a certain field they have to work with
making village walls a set border around the village.
Add ability to throw armor and weapons to villager to make them village guards (up to iron armor)
Archer Villager
Crossbow Villager
Swordsmen Villager
Trident Villager
Witch Change
change ai to help villages by healing damaged villagers.
have act neutral to players, attack them if villager is punched or they are.
will attack player if provoked.
witches attack illagers, pillagers.
Zombie Pigmen
allow zombie pigmen attack villagers.
allow guard villagers to kill pigmen on sight.
make ravagers break down wooden walls with attack in hard mode.
gives players in hard mode a sense of threat. giving the survival more of a satisfaction feel.
