I like this. I'll see about getting it discussed in the New Nether thread.
Acid rain is the obvious weather choice, Perhaps an umbrella could be made from Asbestoskin to help deal with that. It would also be interesting to have actual earthquakes that cause fissures
Now that you mention it, the Nether is the only biome so worthless that players wouldn't mind desctructive earthquakes on a regular basis. That would be really cool.
Errr... we're trying to make torches optional. You know, in preparation for torches-burn-out update and to make ironman like challenges easier? Plus it would make entering/leaving dark caverns feel like a bigger deal, visually.
Torches-burn-out update? Is this a real update coming or something your predicting?
It has been discussed, proposed, mentioned by Notch, and planned in the development of the game for a very long time. Eventually torches will burn out.
My server has a lot of deleted un-wanted snow, with it being too much snow in the beginning, we got rid of a lot of it and have many great creations in the server. With the weather coming in the next update and that the snow will fall on snow biomes. Does that mean the snow will fall on the original area where we deleted the un-wanted snow? If so, will there be a way to turn off the weather in multiplayer?
Place lava? Will light the area and melt snow. Lava shouldn't be put outable according to Notch.

How about having the compass in your inventory point to the nearest magnetic object, that is, the nearest compass? Compasses are the only magnetic object in the game anyway. (Placed compasses would only point north, to avoid ugly problems).
that sounds amazing, then they should make something to be lava resistant just because lava rain seems appropriate in hell
I wouldn't support lava resistant armor, but a firey hail that damages players standing under netherack would be funny. Perhaps occasional ghast fire balls that light bricks but don't destroy them would drop from blocks at a high altitude?
Support colored armors, though we will probably get colored capes instead.
I hope they're part of skins instead of needing to be crafted :sad.gif:
Good point! Forgot about that since I haven't used texture packs yet. No need for colored armors then, but varied tool animations would be great. Specifically, I'd like it if the pick was animated slower so that 2 hits mines stone, 3-4 hits mine ore, etc. It would make higher quality picks feel far more powerful.
The nether should have worse weather than the overworld. I'm thinking fire and brimstone, maybe an event where zombie pigmen become agressive, and travelling waves of fire across netherack. Just shooting the idea out there :smile.gif:
I've always found one problem in minecraft: when you fall into a minimum light level cave, you can see faintly from the moment you fall in. And if you dig a hole to the surface, so light gets in to your very dark area, it doesn't suddenly seem extremely bright.
So I think that your eyes should become accustomed to daylight if you're outside, and if you go into a torch lit room for a few moments it should seem slightly dark.
Then you go into a minimum light level cave, and over a period of 30 seconds it should seem to get lighter, till the completely dark caves seem only as dark as they are now.
Then head out from there into the sunshine, and the light, for about 10 seconds would be dazzling. Then it would seem normal sunshine brightness.
I support. Would allow torchless exploration. Yeah, torchless exploration would be dangerous but it would also be fun!
So mix the common iron and mix the insanely common coal and you get a powerful metal? You need coal to smelt iron in the first place so this modification would be redundant and worthless unless you need a special fuel/furnace.

Yes, weather should be turn-offable.

Just make a compass and place it. Simple as that, right?
