Apr 6, 2011All of the "automatic" wheat farms I've seen so far involve flooding a wheat farm, which undoes ALL of that tilling with the hoe. This design is less "automatic" but resetting it is far, far easier.Posted in: Survival Mode
= water source block
= water stream
= sign or half tile (cobble tiles cheaper but harder to remove)
Just enter via the leftmost sign, hold left mouse button while weilding seeds, press forward when in front of the sign, and turn around when you reach the rightmost wall. Repeat. I didn't put in the rightmost wall because the design can easily be extended to be as long as you want.
Each segment is 4 long by 16 side and grows 28 wheat.
Including walls, structure is 2+(4*number of segments) long by 18 wide, 4 high including floor and ceiling, and has room for torches if underground. Grows 28 wheat per segment. Could grow reeds with a higher ceiling, but not suited for cacti which can be farmed automatically anyway.
I find ease of use more important than size or quantity, since wheat grows fairly quickly. Do you prefer this design, flooding style "automatic" farms or even normal wheat farms?

I like this idea, except for one problem. I made a compass and followed where it went, and it brought me to my original spawn point I had when i started the game. I think Notch needs to make it so that the compass points you toward the bed.
No. Compass points to one fixed point. Think of the original spawn as the North Pole. Your compass doesn't change what it points at because you took a nap.
Still, it would be nice to have a way of knowing which way to the nearest spawn point, even if it isn't by using the compass. Maybe left click to change compass modes between point North (useless if you have cobble), point to 0,0 (default), or point to most recent spawn point (what this guy wants).

All I see is elitist crap. "hurrdurr fps is so outdated"
The first time I played Minecraft, I played it for hours just building houses and castles out of dirt. I could care less about what's needed. As long as I'm having fun, that's all that counts.
Personally, I feel learning along the way provides a much more enjoyable experience. For example, trying to make an axe, but instead make a hoe and learn the whole farming deal. Very rewarding, if you ask me.
Without the wiki... you never would have discovered iron doors, fishing rods, flint and steel, CAKE, cookies, bread, minecarts, furnaces...
...technically these things can be found on the forums hidden beneath theoretical recipes, spam, and directions to "go see the wiki", so no, until there is a sticked player guide with all recipes the wiki will be essential. Heck, why not just sticky a link to the wiki?

What are the spawners? Skelly, Zombie, and a _____? I'm searching for a Skelly/Spider dungeon set right next to eachother, that would be the perfect spawner farm in my view.

Stronger water = good. Breaking water ladders = acceptable but somewhat fun breaking. Strong shallow water = bad.
Shallow water should remain weak, but vertical downward pull and DEEP rivers should remain very strong.
Mar 31, 2011Whistles would be a very good fix. Nice to some constructive ideas. We also need a way to alter behavior - make them suicidal and unafraid of creepers, quiet and less bouncy, or avoidant of all monsters and serve as a warning device/pet that doesn't get itself killed so fast.Posted in: Suggestions
Mar 31, 2011Main issue seems to be that wolves have poor pathfinding, get underfoot, and take too much work. Solution: flying pets instead of ground based pets. Wouldn't burn in lava as easily, wouldn't need good pathfinding 'cause they can fly, and won't get in the way if they try to stay at above head height.Posted in: Survival Mode
I'll try wolves as is before seriously advising any changes, though. I think pets are VERY relevant to the gameplay because it is so easy to die.

just a suggestion.
That would only allow the player to see what he could already see anyway. This would allow seeing around corners - unless you plan to build your entire base out of glass, in which case the control room and redstone wiring would stick out in a bad way.
