However, you could try experimenting with different overlay painting methods on the Performance tab of the Preferences screen, perhaps a different method would improve the performance.

I tried that and it worked. Thanks!

posted a message on WorldPainter - graphical & interactive map creator/generator

I'm having an extremely irritating problem.

I'm working on a large map, and I just started yesterday. Everything went perfectly. I saved it and opened it again today to resume work, and again, everything went well. I saved it and exited for a while and opened it up about a half hour later and it's running very slowly, so slowly I can't do anything. I tried restarting and reinstalling, and it didn't work. Neither did opening yesterday's save.

The thing is is that the image overlay is causing the lag and I need that overlay to be enabled. What's annoying is that only now the overlay is slowing everything down. How can I improve performance while keeping the ever so important overlay visible?

posted a message on Annoying things about Minecraft:
This game is great, but multiplayer is the real problem. I was once banned for not accepting an admin's help offer. Sometimes when I'm waiting for a survival games round to start I get kicked to make way for a donor. And when I'm on MP creative my builds that I've worked long and hard on are always surrounded by swastikas and genitalia. I would love it if there was a server out there for the mature and considerate.

posted a message on Planning Large Builds
I like to use graph paper and a straight edge for planning. Often for larger builds I have one unit represent 3 or 6 m2 (one-two stories). I have a whole binder packed with ammunition for building a giant city. I recommend that technique.

It's a nice build, I like the idea, but can everyone just let the Titanic rest in peace? I think building her sinking is as offensive as building the WTC spewing smoke.

posted a message on What If there was no creative?
So you mean what minecraft was like back before 1.0? It really wasn't that bad. Even though it was just survival I still built whatever I wanted, and it was actually more rewarding building a skyscraper back then because I would have to march out into the frontier, gather materials, craft and smelt, smelt and craft, until a few months later it was finally built. Three months to build something in survival that would take three days to build in creative.

You don't require endless materials to build wonders, all you need is skill and patience.

posted a message on !EPIC Hunger Games Arena!
It's a nice PvP arena, but this isn't, in any way, a Hunger Games arena. Where's the Cornucopia? The forests? Hills, lakes, streams, ponds? How is this supposed to work? The Hunger Games is not only where you have to kill each other to win, but you also have to outlast the other tributes. Have you learned nothing from the book/film?

posted a message on [WIP] 1:3 scale model of Duluth, Minnesota.
She's a work in progress at the moment, and not everything is perfect, so bear that in mind. As a resource I have been using Google Maps and my own knowledge of the city. I've started with downtown along Superior and Michigan street. Here's a brief tour:

The current skyline, as seen about fifty feet above Interstate 35.

Here seems like a good place to start. This used to be Union Station, but now has been enclosed in a massive shed, which is the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, home of one of the last three DMIR AC-9s in existence.

The Union Station building, otherwise known as the Depot. This model doesn't do the real building justice, but it's as close as I could get. It used to be an immigrant processing center, kind of like Ellis Island, then became a passenger rail hub for Northern Pacific and Great Northern. Now it is the city's heritage and arts center and is home to various museums, including the LSRM.

The current Public Library. Later I'll build the old library, a beautiful domed building built by Carnegie.

One of the most iconic buildings in the Duluth skyline, the Radisson towers at 15 stories, one of the tallest buildings in the city.

The Ordean Building, one of my personal favorites.

Two more iconic buildings: to the left is the Century Link Building, and to the right is the AT&T cell tower, which is now actually in the act of demolition, but I decided to recreate it in it's prime.

The DPS and Harbor Center Buildings (the DPS being the one with the diagonal wall, the Harbor Center being the big red one).

Some of the most famous buildings in the city, from left to right: the Wells Fargo Building, the Lonsdale Building, the Alworth Building, the Torrey Building, the Medical Arts Building, and the Providence Building.

The Holiday Inn Building, with the top of the Sellwood Building in the foreground.

Another one of my favorites, the US Bank Building.

Lake Superior Square with the Minnesota Power Building next to it. The large white building across from Superior Street is Lake Superior Place.

I forget the name of this building accenting the busy intersection of Superior St. and Lake Ave., however the curved facade is always perfect for photographing.

That concludes the tour, I'll wrap up this wall of pictures with another overview of downtown.

posted a message on Log Cabin
I live in northeastern Minnesota and I've seen a lot of cabins, and this is very realistic and beautiful. Great job! However I don't know about that large brick area with the campfire. You should probably replace it with a lake shore and a boat launch/dock, or if you want it to stay dry maybe put in a driveway. You should probably also put in a fireplace, those are nice on grey winter days in the forest.

She looks a little squished. The beam is alright, but there needs to be a longer length to compensate. Also please upload a screenshot from a different angle so we can see the hull. Also: /timesetday and /toggledownfall.

This sounds like a huge undertaking. How large will each city/town be? How far apart will they be placed? It actually sounds like you're building a small country.
