You shouldn't have to do that, you just need to not be on Peaceful. Switch to 'Hard' to up the spawn rates for everything; nothing will attack you even if you attack first so don't worry about that.

FYI there was something wrong enough that 4J has queued up a fix for the following slime related issue: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCCE-962
The best way to check Chunk base (which has been accurate for me on the chunks I've tried for my current seed) is to start a super-flat world using your seed. Slime chunks will be the same in super-flat and you'll be able to isolate them better.

Yes, those are the towers that mine are based off of (66 blocks between bottom of 1st floor to bottom of 2nd floor though -- only 66 are necessary as per the wiki http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Village#Advanced_village_placement).
I got my breeder to work though!
This was a prior version world so I decided to reset everything by breaking every door and killing every villager and then putting them all back. That seemed to work and now I have 3 tower floors and a breeder in the same general area.

Is there a link to the wiki about the 120 block distance? My iron farm is a simple tower design and each platform is 66 blocks apart from the center and that seems to work fine to not have the villages merge. I'll see if I can do it 120 books away though in case... most time I figure people on you tube just blurt out the safest possibly number when you could actually be closer.

I'm currently using a super flat test world with no other villages around, but I do have a prototyped iron farm with 30 villagers ~70 blocks away. Those 30 + my 2 villager breeding pair should be well under the cap for the chunks around me.
I'll try to isolated them even further by doing another super flat test world sometime this weekend with nothing else in it.

I've tried 3 different 1.8 villager breeding farms but none seem to work reliably (and I couldn't have built all 3 of them wrong right??)
What seems to happen is that even if I force my villagers to be willing (by feeding them stacks and stacks and stacks of bread, wheat, carrots, and potatoes) they never actually do the deed. Hearts will fly and they'll get close to each other but nothing occurs. Mob griefing is on yadda yadda...
Has anyone successfully been able to breed villagers with the new update reliably? Some of the designs are broken because our Farmers don't uproot crops when they're hungry but force-feeding them manually doesn't work either.

Doh... I thought I had replied back here because I did find them -- and they do happen to line up to the slime chunk finder (apparently slime chunks are agnostic to the biomes above; you can see this if you use the same seed but chose a Super Flat world which makes isolating the chunks much easier)
I'm using the slime chunks touching each other around X:48 Z:352 as per http://chunkbase.com/apps/slime-finder (Seed: Golden Apple -- Version: XOne/PS4)

@whiskey2shots : That's https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCCE-817 and it has 16 other duplicate links so it's been reported quite often

Update full of features I've been waiting for since forever == awesome... bugs that break the game everywhere else == sucky
My only hope is that some of the bugs I'm running into can be fixed in my existing world; I hope it's not tainted somehow :-/

Is anyone having issues with passive mobs no longer spawning within a (very) large radius of the player like what's described in https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCCE-1128
I want to say that I've heard this happening before but now I seem to finally have hit it with the new update At some point in time all passive mobs stopped spawning even though I can still breed fairly freely with my current set of animals (I'm well within the mob cap). I've traveled well over 256 blocks in various directions in search of anything alive and I've found nothing.

Everyone is having that issue. It was reported on day 1 of the update and many times since on the minecraft bug tracker -- 4j is aware of it but we'll all have to wait for a fix to come down in the next update.

It's probably some form of parity which really sucks. This won't change until suckers stop playing on older systems :-/
Maybe tomorrow for x-mas lots of next gen systems will be had and 4J will see a steep drop off in daily active users on those machines.
For the rest of us, do not donate your older systems. Destroy them so they can never find their way back into our bubble here
