    I don't see the problem with that, there's two different power profiles for 3D application depending on how demanding they are.

    Sometimes when I'm playing a game it drops down to Level 3, though.

    If you need any help you can shoot me a PM or something.

    I'd ask for help but it's on some "novel" that I don't understand.

    (I put novel in quotation marks because I'm fairly certain it's like a second grade reading level. But our french teacher is horrible at explaining things, so I can't read/comprehend for ****.)

    i would avoid AMD, the phenom is FAR FAR below the i5 in terms of performance, and we have no idea how Piledriver will perform yet as there are no benchmarks, you could add an i3 2120 and it would perform on par with the Phenom and still be able to be upgraded to an i5 down the line, something like this http://pcpartpicker.com/p/5I68 would be better, and it has better cooling for the graphics card

    ~~~EDIT~~~ didn't see the 2TB Barracuda. by all means at that price you may as well
    Can you link some statistics showing how much better it performs? I knew Phenom wasn't as good, but from what I was told, it's not THAT much worse than the i5.
    Pwntpants, you can't judge performance on GHz. The 2500k wrecks all of the phenoms at gaming.
    Build looks perfect though.
    I know. Amount of cores matter as well. Most games only need quad core at 2.0 to 2.5 GHz though.
    Phenom II X4 840 is quad core at 3.2 GHz. It's more than capable of most new games. I know Intel CPUs beat out AMD ones. I told him that if he wants to save money he could go with a Phenom, because it's 140 dollar difference and still pretty good, but if he wants to stick with the better ones, go with the Intel.
    At a glance, I'd say that's going to be able to run new games just fine. But I will say, if you want to save money, you might want to get a motherboard that supports AMD CPUs.
    I know AMD are known to be a little less powerful than Intel, but they're a hell of a lot cheaper. I got the AMD Phenom II X4 at 3.2 GHz for about 60 dollars. Quad core, just like the i5-2500k, and 0.1 GHz lower. Most new games only need a quad core at 2.0 to 2.5 GHz for max settings, so if you want to save some money I'd suggest maybe switching to a motherboard that supports AMD, and getting an AMD processor. I'm not sure about many AMD CPUs though, because Phenom II are getting pretty outdated. If you want to be sure you can upgrade to another powerful CPU, maybe stick with Intel, because the Phenom II series will probably be out in a few years.
    An OS upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit seems logical. You may have some kind of hardware issue if your FPS is that low; make sure nothing is getting to hot.(CPU - anything over 70C is cause for concern. GPU - Over 85C *MAY* cause issue)
    I have no extra fans, but my temps are actually really good. When running games for a bit, the GPU gets up to maybe 60 degrees Celsius. It stays in mid 30s to low 40s. Everything else is lower.
    I guess I'll try an OS upgrade.
    Quote from Gringo_Starr
    The GTX 460 is fine for modern games (I have one myself), a 560ti really isn't much of an upgrade unless you get the 448 core version, and even then it wouldn't really be worth the expense. I suspect your performance issues are partly due to your CPU, and partly down to software (eg old XP32 install full of bloat, drivers out of date etc).
    CPU? It's quad core at 3.2 GHz, though. I know Intel are more powerful, but I can't imagine this CPU is that bad, considering most modern games only require about a quad at 2.0 GHz for max settings.
    Quote from BC_Programming
    if you ask me, it has to be.
    Every single component of your system is better than mine. your CPU is nearly twice as fast as mine ([email protected]), your GTX is better than my 9800GT with 512MB, etc. (I assume my 9800GT is worse, since it's around 3 years old now)...
    Yet I get over 200 fps with New Vegas, nearly 500fps with Minecraft (both measured with fraps), both fullscreen at 1440x900; I also can get a solid 60fps with Just Cause 2 (with nearly everything enabled fanciness wise), same with crysis. All consistent framerates.
    The only thing that doesn't match up with my system is that I am using Windows 7 x64, and you're using Windows XP.
    Yeah I'll have to get a new OS and see if it helps.ALSO, this may be a problem as well. Actually, I'm fairly certain it's a problem. But I never found a fix to it. fm87 was trying to help a few months back but we never got it fixed.
    In speccy, it says this under my graphics section:
    Count of performance levels : 4
    Level 1 - "Default"
    GPU Clock 50 MHz
    Memory Clock 135 MHz
    Shader Clock 101 MHz
    Level 2 - "2D Desktop"
    GPU Clock 405 MHz
    Memory Clock 324 MHz
    Shader Clock 810 MHz
    Level 3 - "3D Applications"
    GPU Clock 405 MHz
    Memory Clock 1800 MHz
    Shader Clock 810 MHz
    Level 4 - "3D Applications"
    GPU Clock 720 MHz
    Memory Clock 1800 MHz
    Shader Clock 1440 MHz
    And apparently the Level 3 could be causing problems because it's running at a GPU clock of only 405 MHz, which is the same as the "2D Desktop" and the Shader Clock at 810 MHz, which is also the same as "2D Desktop"
    But we couldn't figure out how to remove that level. Because none of the tools work with XP 32-bit.
    No, not fishing for compliments. I am being serious and saying I am not a stick.
    And Ketchup, yes. I put it on anything and everything. Including eggs.
    I know. I was obviously joking around :P
    And yuck. I use ketchup for.... hamburgers. That's about it. Sometimes fries.
    Does anyone listen to those guys? I feel like I don't know very many people who actually enjoy that band. I don't know what it is, but Celtic Punk rock has stuck with me.
    They are also the greatest live band I have ever seen. Well not seen in person, but I've seen their live performances on youtube and they're almost identical.
    Here are a few of their songs:
    The State of Massachusetts
    Studio version
    Live Version
    Going Out in Style
    Shipping Up to Boston
    Take 'Em Down
    I was too lazy to put the live versions in all of them, but look them up yourself, they sound almost the same live.
    For those of you who know about them, what is your favorite song? Mine would probably be "Going Out in Style" just because I love the irish spirit in the chorus with the whole group chanting it basically.
