Looks like it's getting crushed under the weight of all the mods you're trying to run. Try allocating more memory to the server in your .bat you use to start the server.
That would be because of items/mobs/etc. that the mod adds into the world save. Upon removing the mod, the game/server no longer recognizes the mod's item/mob id's and returns the error you are receiving.
I'm a hardcore freebie, so I will always suggest selfhosting, it gives you a ton more control too; but if you are not into self hosting, I've had tons of people tell me how much they love anvilnode. It looks pretty solid too. If I would ever rent a server, I would probably try them out.
I still don't understand what is causing the problem. If you take the url directly from dropbox and compare it with the one in your server properties, you will notice that there are a few forward slashes that should not be there. If you take them out and run the server again, the slashes get replaced. This is really frustrating since it's a brand new problem and there's no help on the internet. I'll keep trying different things and let you know if I figure it out.
Simple answer: No, a vpn's whole purpose is to mask your real ip address with the vnp provider's. So trying to host your server with a vpn would send traffic to the vpn host, which would filter and block the attempted connections because they are not running a minecraft server, and do not have those ports forwarded. Vpn's work when downloading files for example, by you telling the vpn the location of a file you want to download with a browser; the vpn host machine then downloads the file and then sends you the file directly.
Are the workarouds worth it just for hosting a server only for your friends? Absolutely not. Just don't publicly post your home's external ip address. One would hope that you could trust your friends to do the same.
As you can imagine... sponsored/free servers are in high demand! Our sponsorship form receives over 100 entries a week. It's very hard for us to contact all applicants! Please be patient. There are high chances we haven't been able to read your's within the last 3 days because of the other 80.
Can't wait to read it!

It would be so much easier an simpler doing this without Hamachi.
All you would need to do is:
- open cmd
- run ipconfig command
- Take your ipv4 address and put that into your server settings
- open your router page and navigate to the port forwarding section
- forward your ipv4 and the port 25565
- save
- go to http://www.whatsmyip.org/
- give your friends that ip with the port. (e.g. 176.82.118.118:25565)
- run the server
- have fun
If you want your server to be private, you could enable the whitelist so only you and your friends could join.

Hello, welcome to the Minecraft forums!
Adding a custom resource pack is super easy to do:
1. Make/login to an account at mediafire.com (or any other file hosting site)
2. Upload your zipped resource pack to the site
3. Open your server.properties file with notepad
4. Find "resource-pack="
5. Paste the download link of your resource pack after the equals sign
6. Save and enjoy!
